That was sarcasm Barry. To even try to equate this apartment slum area with a high end apartment development is laughable and shows little regard for standards of appraisal. It would be like using a comparable in Sharpstown to justify a house value in Telfair. Laughable at best, more likely deceitful to fool others into supporting a personal agenda.
Great Comp for a yet to be built upper level Apartment complex in Sugar Land. You can trust a broker who came up with this to represent that correct facts to you.
@TheBarryviper It was a ghetto back in 1992, when I was first looking for an apartment. By then it was called Lantern Village and that area had already gone to crap. Needless to say, I found a better place off Westheimer.
This guy made my mom's skin crawl. She said he looked like a porn star, and the commercial insinuated they were promoting a swinger atmosphere there. I remember being in high school, dressing up like Pollock and having my picture taken next to a hand-written sign saying "Venereal House." My getup included a fake pornstache just like his, a suit with a wide open collar and a pair of cheap aviator sunglasses hanging from my shirt, buttoned up only halfway..I looked like his twin..ah, memories!!
I moved there just as the promotions ended... I think you got your choice of a full bedroom or living-room suit of furniture for a 2 year lease and the VCR for 1 year.
By the time I left in ~1988 the ex-bouncer they had going to door to door to collect rent checks was pocketing half the money. It went downhill fast. But the pools were nice and large and hardly ever used.
He and his VP (His son) are great for the community; they revitalize dead strip malls and contribute to the community. Fun promotions and all, his theater while cheap has its charm. Also I know I'd move in for that Beta player.
I actually lived there during the Michael Pollack era. Looking back it was kinda cheesy. But while he was there the promotion machine was in high gear and he held some great resident parties. His cousin, Kevin Pollack, performed at one of the pool parties. Had ageat time living there until in 1988 the mounted patrol was chasing crackheads through the parking lot on night.

I'm pretty sure that was the last time anybody ever uttered the phrase "beautiful southwest Houston."

I think they modeled the sleazy swinger guy in the Jack in the Box "Jack Sandwich" commercial after this guy.

Michael Buttocks...gotta love him! I do remember his heyday. That area was hopping. Lotsa drugs, sex & rock'n roll...disco, too!

Because he was pitching this place to all the new singles coming to Houston in the early '80s, we called the place "venereal house"
It is "the hood" today...a sad legacy of SW Houston in decline
johndwol 3 years ago
It's not "tha hood".
It's still a great place to live, good location, good and well-kept property, and a great deal.

Pumpkin, I do not believe this is true. Gulfton is known to be a run-down area.
