Clapton did this as a member of the John Mayhall Bluesbreakers Band.Stevie Ray would have made this the supergroup of the century but they wouldn't let him join--he was only 11
Classic version I was at this gig at the Royal Albert Hall. Eric joined on stage that night by Robert Cray Buddy Guy and Johnnie Johnson. I remember the little subtle lick eric plays at 3.07 secs sublime! Jim
boring are most comments ! Specially the ones spitting on the ones in public but been hidden behind the YouTube-Masque ! Those are the same persons which write on toilet-walls......lacks just the smell of pee !
@MrKawaisan It's actually an Otis Rush song from the 50's or early 60's :-) Very good often overlooked guitarist, I think he played his guitar flipped over like Albert King. This version is similar to the original, it's in F# minor rather than A minor if I am hearing correctly.
@VinniePaul94 It's an Otis Rush and Willie Dixon song which was covered by John Mayal and The Bluesbreakers when Eric Clapton was with them on the Beano album.
come on... another stupid discussion about "SRV is better, clapton sucks, gary moore is the real master, jimmi hendrix is the real god" God damn it. Every person with a neuron in the brain knows that clapton is one of the great blues masters of all time. So it is SRV. And hendrix of course. All were completely different. Why compare them? And just for the record, to all those who say "Clapton is shit", the day I´ll be able to see play like him tell what you wat. In the mean time fuck off
Stevie Ray Vaughn absolutely murders this guy in terms of soul and somebody forgot to put the o in good this guy is far from being GOD. Clapton gets lost somewhere down the line i got Page Hendrix and Vaughn all ahead of this guy. Those are the real GODS
@MrWildboy214 You are an idiot and disrespectful to make that kind of a statement. Idc if you prefer those guitarists but to downplay Clapton like that is pitiful esp. when SRV is such a copier to begin with his style it is pure Hendrix basically. At least Clapton was original. Do not get me wrong SRV is godly but to say Clapton does not deserve to be in the God list is idiotic esp. when it is over the soul dispute which is complete BS. You SRV fans need a new argument against Clapton.
@kdhdv Your a absolute moron Clapton was labeled god before Hendrix and Jimmy Page came along and so what if he is original he is no GOD but merely good you can actually feel SRV'S heart and soul in every note and his best songs arent all lovey dovey like soft ass claptons
@MrWildboy214 w/e your response makes it clear you are the true moron and I said SRV was godly. Your agrument about clapton is even more fail than it was before and the point I was getting at it is that its disrepectful to trash an artist esp. when it is not a true statement about clapton it is merely your own opinion.
@kdhdv Your a absolute moron Clapton was labeled god before Hendrix and Jimmy Page came along and so what if he is original he is no GOD but merely good you can actually feel SRV'S heart and soul in every note and his best songs arent all lovey dovey like soft ass claptons.
@kdhdv Clapton worships Robert Johnson.....so who's who's god? Music is subjective. Believe it or not SOME people think Britney Spiers is a god. Go figure. EVERYBODY knows JIMI HENDRIX IS GOD.........but that's just my short sightedness speaking..........yuk yuk...
@Paulsworks Meh, you have a good point. I have done enough talking on this video though, I do no not want to get into that debate because its one of those 50/50 things with me. Its like comparing Led Zeppelin vs The Beetles it could go on forever.
Did it sound better 45 years ago on what i would call primitive recording methods....Or is it just me?......Maybe Eric should start using a Les Paul on some of his tunes.....He needs to change his tone more often......But the man can play !!!
I love this version of this song! Clapton is AWESOME! I like SRV's version of this too, but I think this version is the way it was meant to be played. It makes me a little sad that this song hasn't been "officially" released.
there was a video on youtube. which i cant find anymore and i havent seen hardly any traces of it. it was at the royal albert hall in 1990 im pretty sure. in february.. i think it was titled concerto for electric guitar or something like that. i may have the wrong title..
it was an instrumental piece with an orchestra and stuff.
i think maybe what youre searching for is "edge of darkness" by clapton within the 24 nights project, its also an instrumental piece with an orchestra despite the titles differ a lot, just check it out
no i dont think so, i did some searches and names come up like "concerto for electric guitar" and "orchestra night".. and the stage set up is the same as orchestra night so i would assume it was part of the show.... and im also fairly sure it at the royal albert hall, in a february, either 1990, 1991 or 1992.. im not sure.... but still very strange how theres no trace of it anywher
Yeah, you're right. It's Concerto for Electric Guitar, and the best version was at the Royal Albert Hall on February 10, 1990. The video from 2/10 (or maybe it was 2/9, I can't remember) was on youtube, but it was taken down, I guess because of copyright violation.
Gary Moore version has a harder edge to it and Gary seems to enjoy playing more then Clapton who seems too serious and to be honest the last time he released a great album was the Derek And The Dominos album he is a corporate sellout give me Rory Gallagher for blues anyday.
I love this performance of this song....i was dancing to it and the jazzy swing he puts into this..is wonderfully done by clapton...don't compare...it is wonderful...:)
lol... maybe you whish i would listen to them. I've heard you're looking for a gay partner..... no seriously now, don't write shity comments on such videos..... it's disrispectful... i know you like listening to Tokio Hotel and My Chemical Romance but I respect that, it's your choice.. so respect mine too and don't insult me like that.
is the CLAPTON IS GOD statement that he was embarassed about; mindless people grow up with clapton and dont take the time to actually see where his influences come from and even though clapton is in my top ten nobody can touch the originals.
