Nice presentation. Since I have a balcony garden also, I appreciate your comments about the over-wintering. Do you get enough precipitation on those plants or do you need to step out and "water" the plants in the winter? Do you need to repot these every year or two due to depleted soil? ~ Joan
Hi Joan. No, the troughs don't get wet in the winter so I water until it gets cold and things start to freeze. Then I shovel whatever snow collects in the corners of the balcony onto the troughs - where it either eventually melts or evaporates (very dry here in winter). The soil is a very free-draining mix for the alpines so I'm constantly adding compost to try to keep it healthy. I do add some fresh every year. Great to meet you, have added you to my blog roll.
