I'm also doing a first time garden, 5 rows on the back of the property, plenty of sunshine, tomatoes, carrots, onions, peppers, cucumbers, radish, broccoli, corn, and melon. Just wanted to see if I could do it. Plenty of support info available online. Good luck...
Make sure you do NOT let slugs, or anything eat it. This will result in a poor ear. You should make a ring of Diatomaceous Earth, Copper wire, or sand paper around each one. Copper wire produces electric shocks to slugs, and causes them to turn around. Diatomaceous Earth is ground-up fossils, that will cut the bodies of slugs. Too much cutting, and slugs will lose their slime. Sand paper will also cut the bodies. Good luck with your corn!
