i'm from malta and i'm planning to get one of these next year if the japanese won't step up.i had an r1 ordered for this year but i canceled it due to the introduction of this s1000rr.does anybody knows from where i can get these parklane upgrades?a shorter under the rearset exhaust can(ala cbr1000rr)would have been much tidy+nicer in my opinion
WOW BMW!!! I'm a Kawasaki fan die hard, but your making me jealous! LOL! Your beating the ZX-10 in power, top speed, handling, and mainly LOOKS!!! Damn!! C'mon kawasaki step it up!!!!!! Great bike BMW!!! You didn't sacrifice looks for performance, you mixed them both!
I gotta say, how many people wold be faster on this than a stock bike with our current level of skil. Ok on the straights we could make up time but after riding a stock bmws1000rr, it wouldnt do justice for me with my skills. But i'd still love a go lol. I got an 1198s as I like vtwins and their lazy torque and low down grunt, does wonders on the road. The bmw is a good bike, stock one.Just lacks real world power as its so focused.
those of you who think that this is an expensive set up clearly don’t understand the true cost of racing in the category this bike was built for. Remember this is an all singing and dancing package. There are less expensive options for people with shallower pockets. Plus the bike itself,(in the UK) is not expensive when its put against its true competitors (ducati, aprilia and MV). You cant compare it to the jap bikes as its a European super bike. Plus it runs rings around the Jap '4'
They cost more because they are low-volume in comparison to the big four manufacturers and there is also the BMW premium which is an unfortunate fact. In many ways it is worth it since the build quality and in the case of the S1000RR - options and technology are better than what you get for less with other bikes. Compared to similar Ducati and similar they aren't that expensive.
Here is hoping that the success of the S1000RR increases volume - lower price!
Cost so much?!?! do you guys know how much other liter bikes cost? Its right around the same price Kawasaki ZX10R MSRP is $12,999, Yamaha R1 $13,290, The BMW S1000RR is only MSRP $13,8000. and your talking about a substantial gain in HP and Suspension. IMO its a great price for such an awesome bike.
I've been told the cost has a lot to do with being a manufacturer that doesn't have a heavy industry like Honda, Kawasaki, (Ships, aircraft, etc.). It could be they also charge more because they can...
@nomainreason It's always been like this with cars and its the same for motorcycles. if you want a German bike it will cost you more, thats just how it works. same with Ducati's a 1198 cost a lot more then a R1 I don't think its any better, but if you want one thats what you have to pay. it is better in the since that it has better wheels and shocks, but is it $5,000 better well thats up to the buyer, I think the 1198 is a gorgeous machine that the Japanese bikes can't match.
@nomainreason I never said Yamaha's are not quality bikes, I was talking about marchesini wheels, and Ohlins suspension that come on the Ducati. there just high end equipment. I bet that you would have far less problems with a R1 over 10 years then a 1198.
@jeenyus720 That's because you can't push your bike hard , I've been to several track days with my R1 and my old DUcati 999 and believe me , if you love riding theres nothing like it. Seriously no offense intended
@MrSpeakyourmind I have no chicken strips on my 600, but i dont think i can push that 1000rr to its full potential. That thing is to fast and expensive if you ask me lol
It's a share the BMW dealers here in denmark (exept one in the west) are absoutely clueless about their bikes. Most of the dealers are BMW car dealers, and they keep the bikes in the corner.
I tried to by a 450 for our offroad site, but the dealer dident even know they had such a model, and then he asked me to drive across the country to try a other dual-sport bike instead. Because of that i bought a different brand
But the BMW bikes are brilliant - simply brilliant.
@ebusdk Thats beacause you dont ride bikes very much, cause of the weather off course. In Greece for example we ride all the seasons of the year. Greeting from Creta!
@animal100000 most of the upgrades on the bike (as far as I know) are track orientated so there is no real point to having them on the road. The exhaust will boost you from 182 rw bhp to 194 rw bhp (true and dyno tested) so maybe just that. The system used is a heart stopping £1800 fitted!! But believe me it howls like a gp bike!

BMW is bringing it on! It seems that they are doing everything right. Looks like I might be switching brands next year. Bye bye green, hello blue, white?

@BillieBobSmith They are made in Germany not Japan. That is why they cost so much. They don't cut corners with materials and hardware either.
