  • are they playin' on orange amps ? killer sound !

  • @skinandbones90 ...Orange Class A amps with a Tokai Les Paul copy...they do sound awesome together.

  • They look as though they really enjoyed playing here (UK, BBC) and the backing singers made the rythm section complete.

  • disliking this is like seeing billy and dusty beardless, its fckin impossible.

  • Now thats one nasty blues!!

  • Great song. Widespread Panic covers it and it is unbelievable!

  • @c5hw4 hate panic they are another jam band covering another jam band u know what i mean! they have no great originals and who wants to hear some one take 30 min to play one song! great bands know how to keep it short, badass and to the point. ZZ TOP IS ONE OF THOSE BANDS!!!

  • @djrodz69 In the famous words of The Dude, "Yeah...well..you know that's like uh..you're opinion man." No great originals, you have got to be kidding me. Plus, millions of people want to go hear bands jam out--if not, there would be no such thing as jam bands. I have been to 26 WP shows and they fucking rock. ZZ Top is the shit too.

  • Wow, his old gold top has some sustain!

  • The 8 who voted against this vid/song are obama voters.

  • Great vibe. And I was waiting the whole track to hear any of the harmonica- then he got in one run just at the end- LOL!

  • I love ZZ TOP!!!!

Since i saw them live i can't stop thinking about them!!!

  • damn he sounds funny :D

  • Jimi's favorite guitarist, and mine too.

  • Wow! In all my years of tracking them religiously I've not heard that lil' gem ! Killer!

  • that´s Rock as simple as that man .

  • lol love the harmonica for no reason at the end

  • This is so got the vibe of the RJ original .. zztop rock just for bringing the blues raw and real how it would've been if RJ had an gibson les paul lol

  • heh, all y'all kids think this is good? Well I and I loves ZZtop...but Robert Johnson done did it right...tight and outta sight. Wit ONE guitar no back up and leaving you wondering "was there one or two guys playin' bro?"

  • Man, that cameraman is all over the place.

  • @1Doz Today's concert directors know how to ruin a good performance.

  • kicks ass

  • AMO VOCES , I LOVED !!!

  • is that patti om the vocals from tuck n patti?

  • Stop and bust yr brains out baby make ya loose yr mind

  • still alive .... :)

  • This is so sick! hella Billy Gibbons.

  • Billy Bo

  • What's that red guitar he's playin' recently? Is that the Gibson Moderne? also, does anyone have a cooler guitar collection than the BFG!? Muddy Woody, Pearly Gates, the rare Moderne has he turned the holy grail into a guitar yet?

  • He claims to have an original Gibson Moderne, the ones he's been seen playing on stage are not the original as it's too valuable. He's had a couple custom made.

The red one you mention maybe the Gretsch Billy Bo Jupiter Jet?

Nobody has a cooler collection than Billy.

  • Nobody plays like Billy either... ^^

  • Maybe keith richards who have more than 3000 guitars (he says that he may open a museum...)

People says that Billy have hangars full of guitars, amps, and cars. When billy likes a guitar, he want to have all the guitar of the same series (now he wants to buy all the fender esquire...); He's the man!

    Excuse my bad englinsh!

  • whats your point

  • Best solo ever. Ever. Well, best I ever heard.

  • The first song on the show was 'What's up with that' he put the Tokai sticker on his guitar for this second song. Gotta love Billy!

  • Who cares what he's playing? To get the sound, the tone, you need to be Billy. He could play a 1986 Chevy Corsica and make it sound like a Ferrari Testarossa.

    The Top rules.

  • What a skinny voice from Billy.

    Great song

    5*

  • Funky

  • This is burdoo

  • Stop the video at 3:08 and you'll see "Tokai" written on a piece of gaffers tape... this is no Tokai, or Gibson. Like all of Billy's guitars it was made by Mr. John Bolin. Get the new "Live from Texas" video and watch the backstage extras where Billy's tech reveals that no matter what it says on the headstock Billy only plays guitars built by John Bolin.

  • You still see him occasionally pull out "Pearly", his '59 'burst LP, but most often these days he's playing a Gretsch "Billy-Bo".

  • @talamonster9:

There's also "Love Rock" written on the headstock of this guitar.

Man IT IS TOKAI for sure. There's no point in covering Bolin's signature with a tape. It's such a stupid idea :S

You can find lots of photos with a Tokai inlay logo on that guitar.

The fact is, that Billy plays whatever he want's, and whatever's making the job done well.

He surely uses guitars made by Bolin.

But don't take seriously what he's telling about his equipment. He's making it up all the time.

  • @messerJ4H I agree with you. This is a Tokai Love Rock.

Billy was amazed by Tokai Guitars quality.

  • white stripes are god

  • where can i buy that hat?

  • Billy's playing a Tokai in this video, not a Gibson. :)

  • LOL that's a good one!

  • Dismiss my previous comment, dude.

You were right, it is a Tokai xD

  • I concidered buying a Tokai Goldtop just like that 2 years ago, but at the time I didn't think it was cool enough.

  • A Tokai!!!

I don't think so, it's a prototype Goldtop Les Paul, c 1952/3. In other words, it's verging on priceless. And you can't buy one unless you buy this one!

Why would a man who owns thirteen yachts (at last count) play a Tokai?

I know about this because my friend James Harman appeared on this show with ZZ Top, playing harmonica. He's a long-time friend of the Rev Willy Gibbons.

    Best wishes from the U.K.

  • Dude, he's been playing Tokais all over! No secret at all.

Why would he be playing a Tokai? Late '70s / early '80s Tokais (talking about the 'better' LP clones of the era here) are as close as anyone has EVER gotten to the holy grail; LP 1959s. That's including Gibson! What I've heard, they actually had a '59 they broke down to pieces to see what's in there. Just check if you can find any for sale and then check the price tag!

  • Fair enough....now thatI I know that he was afraid of losing Pearly Gates, I Iunderstand.

Thanks for the feedback, take care

    Best wishes

  • lol had to laugh pretty hard at 1:01 : D

    Awesome performance!

  • I seen them live last year in Nashville and they blowed the roof of that fucking place... Billy stopped right in the middle of the set and changed guitars and started telling this story about where he got the peso he uses, then pulled out this crazy ass solo I had never heard before, it was utterly amazing.

  • Is this on any of ZZ Top's albums?

  • Here in the south, it's Jack Daniel's, a porch on the front of your shack and ZZ TOP. That's all there is to it. :o)

  • this fuckin kicks ass, The Rev. Willie G and the Church of ZZ Top, check billy's singin' on this, kickin ass all over the place, pullin' them blues out that les paul...robert johnson texas-style.

  • :D THE 90's, they were GREAT!!!

  • nice vid!

hey to all you guitar "experts"

how many of you play ? or just read and judge?

  • I play, but I'm not in Billy's league. Nor Jeff Healey's or Robert Johnson's either! Jeff's version of this, I think is better. He really rocks it electric blues style.

  • This is good, standard ZZ Top, but Jack White brings the song alive and makes it more interesting at Live on BBC Radio 1...IMO (flame away)

  • kologe78 you got it it right :P

tomtiddler go check out rush, genesis, yes and camel for prog rock bands

  • and dream theater and jethro tull(sorta)

  • Perhaps Supertramp and King Crimson if you want to go oldschool prog. And both have outstanding guitarists

  • prog rock? -.- you got no idea what you talking there, right?

  • Love the ZZ Top licks...prog rock at it's best!

  • Hindu , islam ,protestants, catholics and ZZ TOP, i love religion.

  • i dunno... i like the harsh tone of the white stripes cover. this one IS really smooth. but the harshness somehow brings out jack whites emotion over the song or something. it's what i prefer anyway. this is good too, just too smooth for my taste.

  • i agree, stripes rule

  • Are you fucken' kidding me w/ that Tone??? It simply is impossible to get any better!!!!! Just dripping w/ TONE muthafucka!!!!

  • impossible to get better?!!! robert johnsons original is 1000x better then this. he wrote it, made it so good that zz top would WANT to make a cover. zz top probably doesn't think theirs is better then the original, this is just their tribute. besides THAT, White Stripes cover is better then this too

  • I think he's just talking about Billys tone and not about the interpretation of the song. I dig Jack Whites playing and everyone knows Robert Johnsons importance. Still I have to say that when it comes to skill, tone and pure mojo, can't think of too many guys who could take on Billy these days... as sad as it is.

Btw, whats going on with the headstock between this one and 'Whats up with that' from the same show?

  • Yea man, I was referring to Billy's incredible tone. Billy stands at the top of the mountain these days bro, for sure. I mean really, it's pure butter and it doesn't get much smoother. I didn't notice sup w/ the headstock, whatchu mean?

  • About the headstock: freeze this one at 2:12 and you see it's got Tokai written on it. Looks the same on Nasty dogs vid from this show, but not the same on Whats up with that. It's not the usual Tokai text, more like handwritten with a marker pen.

  • Yep, I see what you're saying now. I'd bet he's got two versions, each with a different pick-up/coil config, I'm 100% guessing but Billy always seems to have super customized amps and pick-ups etc.... Are those Tokia's big dollar items or what? I'm not familiar with them at all.. Thanks for the info ansla.

  • The guy who commented the 'Whats up...' vid says it's a Gibson proto. With all due respect, I'd have to doubt that even if Billy himself told me. Just based on what I've read, he's a bit of a bs artist when it comes to gear. That guitar could be a Gibson proto, sure. It could also be a customizzed Tokai, a John Bolin custom or something else.

  • Tokai is a copy guitar company...they've been around for years copying Gibsons, Fenders, PRS etc etc...i believe they originally were a japanese company (dont quote me on this), but im quite sure they are now a chinese brand....supposedly they make pretty good copies....but anyways, hes playing through an orange amp...he doesn't necessarily need gibsons or fenders to get the tone....amps make up a huge part of his tone...check out trainwreck amps for instance...he owns one of very few

  • lol. Tokai is alive and well and living in Japan, same factory since 1947, same craftsman/luthiers, still producing the best Les Pauls in the world, at half the price of Gibsons.

  • WOW!!! your stupidity really amazes me!

  • WOW!!! your really easily amazed!

  • I'm going to have to agree with Oscar on this one. Robery Johnsons tone was better? Hardly...You have the nerve to compare white stripes to the great zztop...thats just cheese buddy.

  • heh heh...i didnt know Rev. Willie G could sang that.

  • this song is awesome. Is it on anyb of their records?

  • I believe the 3 song set from the jools holland show is available on an enhanced version of the Eliminator cd.

  • ZZ Top canceled today's appearance in Neil Young's Bridge-show charity show, so they could write songs in L.A. with Rick Rubin and the Black Keys.

    What Assholes!!!!!!!

  • billy gibbons is the coolest person ive ever seen.

  • without a doubt man . the coolest of all times.billyfreakingibbons!

  • Six!

  • The love rock is a exact lp clone like in the brown sugar video. This one is a one pickup lp.

  • What kind of brand guitar is that?

  • a TOKAI Love Rock guitar (a japanese Gibson LP clone)

the logo on this one is over-tapped, you can find other videos of him where the Tokai logo clearly appears, try "zz top - brown sugar"

  • Reverend Willy G fan here too!

  • Billy F Gibbons, no words needed.

  • Very cool guitar playing!!!Billy is definitely the KING OF TONE!!!!!!

  • wow wow wow wow wow wo.....

    Thanks alot man!

  • This episode was on On Demand on cable a few months ago, I'm pleased as hell somebody posted this, I can't find any other rendition of it by ZZ Top and it couldn't get much badder than this anyhow

  • KING OF TONE!!!!!!!!!!

  • koool man

  • Very very rare!!!! Such pleasure!!! Such a great period for Zz Top!!!

  • Wow this is an extra rare cut ! Thanks !
