woah! 50$ for a new case? thats expensive, i get it here for 16.28$ here, ofcourse its fake and manufactured locally but its cheap and it fits, your being ripped off dude
I've had to do this repair a few times, because my trackball is always getting stuck. Every few months I open it up and clean out the lint or whatever else is jamming it.
This weekend I did it and when I put it back together, I was getting an "Insert SIM Card" error. Tried a lot of things trying to get it working again.
My SIM works in a friend's BB and hers does not work in mine. I tried a full reinstall of the OS and that doesn't change anything.
- Ok, I have fixed it now. I had put the black screws where the silver ones go, and vice versa. Either the silver screws were causing some sort of electrical problem with the SIM card, or the device wasn't being closed tightly enough to make contact. Either way, make sure you put the right screws in the right place!
Meanwhile, I can't wait to get a non-trackball device so that I don't have to take it apart to clean so often!
@TehBestEvar416 hate to say it, or to sound stupid, but try dropping it on a dining room table or whatever, not from a huge height, you'll be fine! It re-jiggled something around in mine and made it work again, worth a shot!
some "rain" dropped on my phone. nothing is working except the screen. but after 15 mins. neither the screen nor the keyboard is working. the screen only showing a white light and when someone call me my phone is still ringing. Any ideas to help?
I have a small question: Is there a certain orientation to put the trackball back in there? I ordered another color for replacement and I was just wondering on advance. :) Thanks!
Great video, used the video before to replace just the trackball, so I skipped through most of the other details, I then tried to replace my whole bezel and casing, and ran into several problems. But your tutorial sorted two out of three out. I'd like to make a note to people that the silver antenna he points out on the bottom, needs to be carefully removed and placed on a new case, in the same position, otherwise the antenna will be veryweak, and barely pick up any signal at all. Great video :)

@cashmank You must remove the speaker from the top part (where the camera slots in) of the old casing. The new casing has no flash or speaker embedded.
This was an absolute lifesaver! My 8900 is past its warranty, but my trackball was dead. I ordered a new one for $10; bought and T6 Torx screwdriver for $3. I watched this all the way through once, then started it again and went to work, pausing where necessary. It only took my 10 minutes and PRESTO! I have a fully functioning Blackberry 8900 again. Thank you so much!
Is it possible to replace the board underneath the keypad (attached to the phone portion)? The spacebar on my 8900 is tempermental. Im confident its not the keyboard because you don't feel that solid click like with the rest of the buttons when you press the spacebar now.
hey man nice review .i have a blackberry 8900 and i have a problem with headphone jack (3,5 mm) when i atach headset the music play but makes a strong ringing .is not problem with headphones cuz i put them to another phone and works perfectly.waiting for reply have a nice day
My trackball scrolls around, but it will not do any return (enter) function. I've replaced it with a new trackball unit, same problem. What could be the problem here? Help!
@garoofiya Most likely water damaged. I waited weeks hoping it would dry out--alcohol and rice drying. I also realized I had to "knock" the corner of the BB8900 against the table and somehow keyboard re-aligned? I'm puzzled, not too many moving parts below the keyboard Now, the keyboard works, no more anomalous letters popping up, and the trackball doesn't skip anymore. I wish I could fix the darkened screen since and the unreliable WiFi connection.
I dropped some juice on my 8900 now my keyboard and trackball don't work. I was told a new keyboard would fix it but the keyboard does not have a circuit board inside so how does juice ruin it?? Do you think it will fit it??
@3000gtgomez7 that means your BB is water damaged, take out the battery and SIM card and leave it to dry completely in a bowl of uncooked rice for 3-5 days before trying to turn it on again..it should work perfectly after that. A new keyboard will do nothing for it.
@mistryy basically what you need to do is, on your old bezel you get the tool that can scoop, you do that under the gold things till they are both not stuck to the bexzel then peel the top bit and it all comes off together, then you sstick that onto your new bezel on the top bit and hey preto
Are there any water/liquid damage indicators inside the 8900? And if there are, how many are there and where are they located exactly? According to T-mobile, there's 5 of them. I'm w/ Rogers so I'm not sure if they have them as well -- been hearing different things.
You sure did a good job showing how to do this.. I have a new (mat black velvetty) cover I want to put on and when I have the T-6 screw driver I will do it! Thanks! -Jeanine
Okay, I've done everything successfully, except the back cover now is slightly [unnoticeably though] loose now. Like it's popping out and isn't sticking solidly at the back. HELP!!

ive successfully removed the top and middle screws, but my driver wont fit the bottom screws as perfect as the tops and mids. i cant unscrew the ones in the bottom. any help would be appreciated...
sorry. no solutions here, but it sounds like they're seized (very unlikely, unless there was a cola spill or something. even then, very unlikely) or stripped. if you've never done this before, that shouldn't be the case tho. try a T7 maybe?
oh my gosh!!! i just spent nearly 2hours (and half a bottle of wine) looking for your video! yes you can literally peel off the contacts, but as he says (i nearly learned the hard way so ill reiterate) the white contacts on the top and gold ones on the inside for the mute/standby and the lock keypad buttons are connected in pairs, so when you get one off dont pull it fully off incase you rip the connection hip hip hurray for brand new housing!!!
I am the unluckiest person in the world. Everything went well. Replaced the trackball. (little problem with the alignment but I think I got it right) re-assembled and now the power light comes on for about a minute but it never boots. :(( Any ideas??
hey man, on the original bezel, when u were talking about the two stickers on the top and the two silver contacts, do i have to peel all 4 stickers or whatever off, and put them on the new bezel? does it matter where i place them as long as there close? please and thank you.
off course they will...trackballs get damaged very soon, and it is not pretty difficult to disassemble and replace it.......I have done 2 times on my BB
Hi. Im hoping you know the answer for this question. Is there a way to test the antenna. Im just curious cause I've really bas reception ever since I dropped my phone. TIA
I'm using my husbands profile here, as I dont have one...
Saved my life here! Trackball screwed up for the fourth time and wasn't about to go about exchanging the phone *again*. Data transfer is a major hassle, and then there's all the settings. Changed trackball, cleaned keyboard (sorted out the missing letters problem) and changed facia for plain black one as the silver edge looks mank once chipped.
you can get a torx screw driver set at any auto parts shop or any place that sells tools or probably your local hardware store. no need to order online
Hey clintonroche, good video. I would like to know how you go about changing the midplate(transferring flash, camera, foam, etc to the new midplate). i would be grateful if you can PM me or even make a new video showing this. please and thanks!
Worked perfectly! Thank you for posting such a clear tutorial. I've now changed my scabby original bezel for a black one - only took 20 minutes. No problems with peeling off the contacts with a pen-knife and resticking them.
im scared to do change my bezel because im scared that i wont be able to change the lock and mute things at the top. could make a video showing how to do that please?
I Just Swap My Silver Bezel To the Black One..It took me 2hours...The Only Hard Part is switching the contact buttons and the foam parts..IT WAS FUn!!!
I had a prob with my curve 8900 keyboard after dropping the phone in a cup of tea. After it was dried out the text buttons were creating a b letter when pressed. If you get this, very carefully peal the white plastic button pad back (it is like a sticky label which creates the buttons and clean the button contacts. Do not peal back to far as the buttons short ciruiting are likely to be around the edge. Once clean (I used a LCD tv cleaning fluid and a ear bud)
Hey man!?! Shire genius leaving the fact that the contacts from the original bezel have to be utilized to access the mute and locking functions with the new one until your step by step is complete! You owe me 15 minutes of my life back dummy. Shall I post an instructional vid explaining how to hotwire an '02 Beemer, all the way to the point you are joyring. And then explain that's the Lo-Jack was installed. LOL. IDIOT. Stick to what you know pal.
Just want you to know we watch this because we NEED it - thanks for your help, hope people like you keep posting videos!!

Does the top plate sticks on the BB? i've heard from someone that I need to mold it on the bezel. Can you confirm that?
Thanks
kwtang 2 years ago

if i take out the red warranty sticker and then put it back, will my cellphone company know I opened the phone and "voided my warranty"?
wachu57 2 years ago
Depends on how good of a job you do removing and replacing it. I would just assume that you will void the warranty if you do this procedure.

CristinaOcampo8 2 years ago
I'm using my husbands profile here, as I dont have one...
Saved my life here! Trackball screwed up for the fourth time and wasn't about to go about exchanging the phone *again*. Data transfer is a major hassle, and then there's all the settings. Changed trackball, cleaned keyboard (sorted out the missing letters problem) and changed facia for plain black one as the silver edge looks mank once chipped.
Thank you again! Fabulous.

Worked perfectly! Thank you for posting such a clear tutorial. I've now changed my scabby original bezel for a black one - only took 20 minutes. No problems with peeling off the contacts with a pen-knife and resticking them.
scaryclairey18 2 years ago
im scared to do change my bezel because im scared that i wont be able to change the lock and mute things at the top. could make a video showing how to do that please?
Brasilera1214 2 years ago

when changing fascias do you have to transfer the contacts from the original cover, or do the new covers come already with contacts?
nick89998 2 years ago
I had a prob with my curve 8900 keyboard after dropping the phone in a cup of tea. After it was dried out the text buttons were creating a b letter when pressed. If you get this, very carefully peal the white plastic button pad back (it is like a sticky label which creates the buttons and clean the button contacts. Do not peal back to far as the buttons short ciruiting are likely to be around the edge. Once clean (I used a LCD tv cleaning fluid and a ear bud)

Hi, where do you recomend to buy the trackball and bezel from?
mdoleo 2 years ago
LOL. IDIOT. Stick to what you know pal.

hahahaha... thanks for your kind words...

Oh yeah..... and BTW I did explain the issue with the contacts and how to transfer them to the new phone. So have a great day.
