I saw Diaz/Gomi and Silva/Franklin II in person, while any of Silva's fights in UFC are worth watching, I can't really recommend Diaz/Gomi as even in the top 20 fights people should watch to get into MMA... despite the shocking ending, it broke down into a brawl too quickly.

fans that are new to the sport generally don't appreciate/understand ground technique so I always try to wait before pointing to the more technical fights (sakuraba vs newton comes to mind) :)

Personally I got into mma BECAUSE of the ground game. It was something I hadn't really seen before. But like it said, most new fans don't share that experience with me :)

Yes, Sakuraba vs. Newton was the first MMA fight I showed my dad. I really can't stand it when fighters say things like, "well, I want to stay standing to make it exciting for the fans," because they almost always get put on their back and don't have ANY ground skills. It's exciting for the fans when there's action on the feet and on the ground, not action on the feet and a guy not knowing how to escape mount.
