You just don't get up on stage and spout your lines as an actor; to bring the audience with you, you must BECOME the act, with makeup, clothes, props, mannerisms, etc. It's not just the skills she's showcasing, it's the entire BEING that you become whilst performing. It provides more depth and believeability to the performance, makes it more than just swinging around a stick on a string. It's ART and poetry in living, breathing motion...clothes and all.

The reason you only really see girls doing it is because it's really a lot about flow and illusion. Guys levisticking can look freaking amazing, but it's harder for most men to get the flow right. Girls just seem to have more natural grace.

I've been out of practice with poi since I started belly dancing. I still pick em up every now and again.....I should really start practicing again, I was working on flowers when I picked up b-dance. I break everything with them cause I don't have enough practice room though....so many lightbulbs xD
