Is this a TBI or TPI engine? I am asking because if its a TBI, I was wondering why you just wouldnt go for a TPI because the TBI engines are rather underpowered. 2.8 V6's will beat a 305 TBI engine.

Kids, the 305 does look similar to the 350, but to be exact it has 45 more cubic inches, and more displacement always means more power. The 350 if correct for the same year is putting out about 250 HP.

Why keep the TBI? If I had a throttle body Injected ride, i'd either go stealth ram or carb'd. Sounds pretty good. Last TBI car I had, I did a bunch of TBI free mods I got from some thirdgen site... I'd recommend them,

i have 92 355 sbc swap carb from 305 tbi. best thing i ever did but that little 305 held its own with headers cam tbi change and intake 15.46 to 14 .1 305 stock came 190 hp after all that went to 256 300 lbs

@oneillwhiteman what kind of cam did you use for the 305? im trying to get my lil 5.0 to run a decent number on the tracks. 256 300lbs sounds pretty good for a 305. i have longtubes, x pipe, intake, weight reduction, polished heads but no cam =(

You do realize parts from all Third Generation Camaros are interchangable, right? My 86 has rear lights from an 85, a spoiler getting ready to go on from an 88, and a truck motor built sometime in between 1976 and 1985.

@kcole939 most but you cant use a chin spoiler from a 85 on a 84 unless you use the whole front bumper 82-84 had a slightly different front bumber and chin than the rest i had to find out the hard way.

Any idea how much power that makes? I just bought another 88 camaro dirt cheap and it has been swapped to a 350 tbi. I've only had the opportunity to drive it a couple times now as I haven't had a chance to go to the bmv to plate it yet, but I let it get to 1500 and kick it down and that engine just takes off. It's so much faster than my 88 iroc with a stock 305 tbi. Just wondering if you had any numbers since it seems you have about the same set up.

@fresnocamaro Well of course you are going to smoke a 305 tbi...You have a 350 tbi! The 350 throttle bodys only made 245hp stock while the much better tuned port injection made 280hp stock.

Well depending on the year it came from because it varied quite a bit,but i dont think they started making the LT1 until 92 not for sure though,but it varied any where from about 250 all the way up to the one i have wich is out of a 96 state trooper car which had 375hp.

350 tbi and tpi cars make somewhere in the 220hp range. The LT1 came out in 93.

@Plantfoam actually the LT1 first appeared in 1970. it was in the camaro and produced 370hp stock!!!!! the LT1 that was introduced in 1992 was based of the original LT1.

92 was the first year for the lt1 in the corvette then gm used them in the 93 camaro/firebird when they redesigned them.Then in 94 in the caprice/ impala ss and buick roadmaster.
