Today's FX, lacks what good shows like this had.

I agree, computer SFX are used way too much now. Actors physically performing on wires or in front of green / blue screens is much more appealing to me than completely fake sets created entirely by 3D compositing on computers. Flight scenes looked much better in days past than they do now. Compare the old SMAN movies with SMR for instance.

Totally... Both Christopher Reeve and Supergirl's Helen Slater, even took ballet and lifted weights to pull off their aerials. Besides look, just knowing the actors really lifted off the ground, makes watching it more fun.

I guess this is why there is no flying on smallville (well seasons 5&6 had maybe 2-3 flying scenes), it just isn't worth the time and money to rig the guy. Plus on smallville there has to be the "effects" on everything.
