  • @blishize never too late ; )

  • She is 1 of my best friends gives me shivers listening to her sing every time

  • @debarra21 Beautiful singer. If I were you I'd ask her to sang to me everyday.

  • I would love to learn this song, does anyone have the lyrics?

  • @jfbecks17

    never mind, found them.

  • @jfbecks17 Amharc suas, tá mé i ndiaidh iad a scríobh síos.

  • She's like a siren, her voice is enchanting... like a spell.

  • very good ! :)

  • Slan

  • Neil , She Teaches in balingeary Irish college

  • @JustI2eLax

Hi there, my name is Tia Cuckoo and I'd love to get in touch with Neil. Her voice is haunting me and I would absolutely love to hear some more. Does she have a Facebook account? A YouTube account? A manager?

I mean all the good in the world, I truly love the effect her voice has on me!

    Thanks a million!

    Tia Cuckoo xxx

  • @tiacuckoo

I saw her 3 weeks ago in a small pub in dublin called The Cobbletone, her voice in person is even more haunting and amazing than this clip can ever come close to, truly beautiful sean nós singing. on a side note, her name is Nell not neil :P neil is a guys name

  • It's beuteful song! Thanke you for me, прости за мой английский, я его толком не учил, хоть и заставляли, песня хорошая, душевная!

  • beautiful , makes me feel more irish by every note she sings

  • Nell, where have you gone? The world needs more of your beautiful gift. Please.

  • The deft vocal lilts are one of the most impressive aspects of Gaelic music. You can tell these performers take their music seriously.

  • I'm falling in love with her

  • Comment removed

  • i love it.even if i don`t understand one word. listen to my instrumental on

    amokreutz

  • Beautiful singing. Thanks to Chomuno for sending it.

  • the tune reminds me of The Limerick Rake/champion at keeping em rolling, beautiful voice :)

  • ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!!! Keep them coming Nell!!!! A fan in NEW YORK!!!

  • if it was posible to make a living, i would not mind living in Ireland. but sadly, the economy is realy bad.. i am sure i am going to visit it thou..

  • i must admit.. she sings realy good.. how old are she?

  • the beat kinda reminds me of "the lousehouse of kilkenny".. i dont speak a word gaelic.. and it could be that the ruthem is reused.. but a greate song nevertheless

  • I love this. My grandparents are from Ireland. I thin ki a want to move back there!

  • mary immaculate college forever!

  • Two words: talent and prettiness. Is it the Gaelic version of the "Kerry Recruit"? Because I recognize the rhythm!

  • @Chomuno SOunds like Cod Liver Oil to me O.o

  • @Chomuno I was listening to a Dubliners record and heard this melody in a song called "The louse house of Kilkenny", in the verse anyway. I don't hear it in the Kerry Recruit myself, but... If you want the song I can send it to you...

  • @brianoc22 Yes, I don't see where you find the same melody, except (maybe) a vague feeling of resemblance in the chorus...

I definitively think "The Kerry Recruit" is the most similar song, in the melody (not in the lyrics: I don't see any link between a lame duck and a Crimea-war Irish soldier.).

  • @Chomuno The only song I know to this tune is the Newfoundland song, "Cod Liver Oil", which is probably of Irish origin anyway.

  • Two words: talent and prettiness!

  • Just by chance I was listening to Ráidio na Gaeltachta last night and heard Nell giving her final piece for the Oireachtas sean-nós competition. And to top it off, she won!!! Maith thú, Nell, you made my night, and you sounded so happy afterwards!

  • @alec00618 Feck off

  • @toocaran your mum in half a burger

  • @alec00618 Who carez?! O me gawd... never heard the sayin' "Cometh the time when thick be slim and slim push up them daisies"? If me lass had this voice, I'd love her with double Nell's body!

  • wow..ta si go hiontach ar fad! Is aoibhinn liom an amhran seo..

  • I keep listening to this over and over and over again.. I wish this girl had more videos online.. ABSOLUTELY beautiful. <3

  • bravissimo from tuscany! i love your voice! thank you soo much!

  • mighty stuff nell. . . .class!!!

  • She's got a fabulous gaelic voice...must be irish. Hopefully her confidence will grow as she realizes her wonderful gift. Beautiful young lass with such a beautiful voice. Would love to hear her do a rendition of the Briar And The Rose. Well done!

  • @akiltedprairielass her expression has to do with the style of singing

  • This is the same melody as the Newfoundland song "Cod Liver Oil", probably no coincidence there

  • @Voltaire7 yes i agree i remember the dubliners version. oh doctor oh doctor oh dear doctor john your cod liver oil is so pure and so strong. i'm afraid of me life i'll go down in the soil if i dont stop drinking your cod liver oil

  • GO hiontach

  • Beautiful singing! O.O

  • I love her voice, doesn't even need accompaniment.

  • Omg! 01:08 is so great!

  • i dont speak gael but it is sure pretty

  • Is aoibhinn liom é seo. Ar-fheabhas ar fad.

  • Cad a guth álainn o_o

  • irish music is so fn haunting man i love it

  • Maith a bhean, a Nell

  • Has Nell got a record deal yet? I'd love more of this.

  • Nell sings like an angel, no doubt. I don't even care if it's a comic song.

  • Go raibh maith agat Nell. Go hálainn. Taimid ag eisteacht in Australia... a long way from Buckley's bar.

  • She is wonderful. I first heard her voice when my partner played it in another room and I was asleep and I truly thought I was hearing angels!

    Just beautiful!

  • go haontach, agus chomh óg agus atá sí! wow.

  • I will most definately buy any cd she releases she has an incredible voice!!

  • What a beautiful Voice !

    What a beautiful Language !

Love it, thank you for uploading !

Btw, im from Germany, so sad that i couldn`t understand 1 single Word.

But i love the Gaelic Language and Music.

  • Beautiful, I plan on learning Irish after learning German and French.

  • Oh my word

    what energy and feeling

    proud celt

  • beautiful voice, song sounds similar to " johnny jump up "

  • the tune reminds me of the song "if my wife won't stop drinking the cod liver oil".....

  • i think it IS the same tune, lol.

actually...as i keep listening, im very sure it is.

  • Wow, she is phenomenal!

  • it's not synchron with her lips, is it?

and how can she sing so unemotional (I see nothing in her face :x)

  • Its part of sean nós singing not to have emotion in your face, traditionally the singer would face away from the audience or stare straight ahead, as the music is seen as more important than the performance. The audience and the singer are all just part of the music, which is why they sing along too.

  • For everyone that wants the lyrics... Just make sure you read them in order... one.

  • more...i want to hear more from this Nell -

anyone know if she has made any recordings?

    She's brilliant

  • Love the sound but don't understand the lyrics! Noticed there are a few Irish speakers up here, can anyone give a summary of what the song is about? (know its about a lame duck but thats it!) Just curious, really

  • I've been looking for more of your music, and I can only find two other songs. I wish to hear more! - love from America

  • I have to say it again!! WONDERFUL!!

  • wonderful, wonderful!!

  • Is maith liom seo - lovely voice

  • In the old days when money was scarce people gatherd at houses and made music and told stories and even had "Big nights" and in attendence were travelling fiddlers who played until dawn. "Round the house and mind the dresser". It did not cost anything and helped to weather many a hard time.

  • Now that the economy is moving below zero why not explore the true treasures of Ireland it,s culture. Any country going through hard tmes but makes use of it,s cultural treasures will survive and come out of it the wealthier and wiser. Please sing more songs young lady.

  • ar fheabhas ar fad. maith an cailin. fair play duit.

  • My name is Rachel and my heritage is Irish/ Russian. Your singing is so beautiful it is heavenly, you sound like an angel. We have seen 3 UTube videos of you and would love to see more. My husband Don is Irish/ Maori, from New Zealand, and our daughter's name is Kiyrrawr. We love your voice, since we found the first video, we haven't stopped listening.

Please don't stop singing or posting on U Tube,

People's voices like yours are needed in the world.

the original poster's comment embarrassed me as a Scot.

    horrible thing tosay!

  • The song is so wonderful and her voice is soo intense brilliant!!!! =)

  • Big Fan You go! 'cause you will.

    Owain(Toronto, Canada)

  • im addicted to this song, headin conradh on harcourt st later.. its trad fest week in dublin...

  • Yay, Nell has a new video on YouTube! Not sure how to link to other videos, but it's called "Nell Ní Chróinín ag canadh Baile Mhuirne" - it's not as good quality as this one, but better than nothing! Maith thu, a Nell! :)

  • The contrast between her expressive singing and her complete lack of facial expression fascinates me. What an awesome song, and a beautiful (very subtle) voice.

  • I've lost count of how many times I've listened to this video in a row. More than singing, she transmits...hard to explain, her legacy through a mellow singing. So beautiful as hard to describe.

    Charmed, from Spain

  • Can anyone translate this song for me? I'm learning Gaelic and would like to learn this song but I'm nowhere near fluent. :S Thanks to anyone who could! xx

  • how mellow a quality does her voice have.. it's a great song. hilarious about the duck..

  • Could someone write that is said by the blond man, please? :D ...great language! Congratulations!

I'm yours faithfully; Tamás from Hungary

  • Fanfaimíd i measc na n-aos óg agus beannaithe i measc na mban atáim anso anocht, gearrachaillí óga agus amhránaí óg a bheidh againn ó Bhéal Átha an Ghaorthaidh. Sin í Nell Ní Chróinín agus an t-amhrán atá ag Nell Ní Chróinín chun a chanadh dhúinn ná An Lacha Bacach.

That's the Munster dialect, if you don't already know. He says Bíol instead of Béal. We also say Bíorla instead of Béarla and cíod instead of céad, etc.

  • Thanks a lot!!!

  • So there are so big differences between irish dialects that you can't understand some of the words? Anyhow, this is beautiful!

  • wooooo go nell !!!!!!!!

  • this is so exquisite. i love the trills she can do.

  • I've searched high and low, no lyrics as yet ... any one able to point me in the right direction? :)

  • I started a thread on the Daltai forum (an Irish language website) this week about getting the lyrics, but no luck yet! :(

  • I'll have the lyrics up very soon, but I'm missing a few words here and there. There's one word, "ló", it's obscure but it makes sense, ló being a poetic word for water...ach beidh siad agaibh go luath!

  • I see that AnLoingseach has posted the lyrics but but as its hard to make out some of the words on the video there are lots of mistakes in his version of the song. Here is the authentic version which I can vouch for as I've often heard Nell singing it in "The Top o' Coom Pub"!! (The Highest Pub in Ireland!).

Because of character limitations I had to post this in sections and it has come out a bit bun-ós-cionn (arseways) so you'll have to re-adjust the verses accordingly!!

  • Do thugas fé ndeara ansan go bhfuil rann eile agat nár chan sí...?

  • Tá an ceart agat, níor thugas fé ndearra é! D'fhoghlaimaíomar é sa bhunscoil mar is fear áitiúil a scríobh é - tá sé ar eolas ag gach éinne i gCúil Aodha!

I notice that the verses have been arranged consecutively since my last posting!!

  • Go raibh maith agat, do bhí 'fhios agam go raibh a lán fadhbanna ann agus do bhíos ag súil go mbeadh daoine in ann na focail a phlé chun iad a fháil i ndeireadh na dála, mar a dearfá, ach cuireann sé gliondar orm go bhfuil na focail againn chomh luath is chomh moch leis seo. Is iontach an t-amhrán é agus is iontach an t-amhránaí í!!!

  • is this girl from kerry?

  • Ceapaimse go bhfuil sé an-chorr ar fad amhrán chomh greannmhar leis sin bheith chomh álainn san am céanna. Tá a glór ar fheabhas, fíor-Ghaedhealach. Go n-éirí leithi.

  • Gwan nelly!

  • I love this tune - my Gaeilge is pretty awful, but I can't get the melody out of my head and want to learn the words! Please, could someone put up the lyrics please?!?

  • Here, here! She has wonderful rhythem to her voice.

  • Beautiful woman with an equally beautiful voice!

  • that's great.. I need to learn the language

  • This sounds like the tune from "Johnny Jump Up" performed by Gaelic Storm, just much slower.

And she has such a beautiful, beautiful voice.

  • That is exactly what I was thinking! Only i was thinking of Mairtin de Cogain's version.
