I use an alternative method. Lining the undercut up with the uppercut has the potential to be a problem, leaving you with a messy cut. I make the undercut an inch(2.5 cm) away from the collar, then make a uppercut half an inch(1cm) in front of the undercut. This way the branch (and weight) will snap off without tearing. Afterwards I remove the stump on the collar edge.. This is exceptionally useful for one hand sawing. With sharp Silky saws this method takes only 5 seconds longer.
agree Mueiwark the method you describe is an accepted method and works perfectly well.
As I get more used to the Silky saw, and I fit a new blade each season, increasingly for branches up to 2.5. cm thick I am sweeping through the last centimetre of wood so fast the limb doesn't know its been severed for half a second and there's no need to do anything to avoid tearing.
btu certaily a limb this size needs care to avoid ripping off the underbark, either careful support or an undercut
Hehe, you should check out the Silky Katanaboy. You can throw away your chainsaw or pole saw, and it's equally handy when a war might break out. Google it up, you'll be amazed. ;)
Very kind of you to say so. I once wrote and self published a cookery book as a fundraiser for a church extension. It took so much time and cost so much that I said I'd have done better just making a bigger donation! Posting youtubes is quick, easy, FREE! and gets round the world in a minute, book is much harder and costly.
My videos are getting over 1,000 views a day, very humbling. I sold just under 300 copies of my book, and mostly to friends and neighbours!
I enjoy your videos I have a backyard orchard of apples and pears.I watch you over and over. Sometimes the sound of the wind I here. thanks

Hi, do you know if there's a verb that describes the smooth rhythmic back-and-forth motion of the saw as it cuts through wood?
