@TH3JCKSH0W It's kind of hard to get used to, but I play FPS games on both the Xbox and computer, so it's easier for me to play both. If you really only play on the Xbox, then it might be kind of hard.

The short of it is that the XIM PCBs needed to use better hardware than in other adapters—else it would be capped at an equally low operating speed instead of having virtually no lag—while also including enough power to store and run translation to an integrated controller. Compare this to the XIM2 XFlex where the XIM boards were more costly due to size, but also needed to be soldered directly to a gamepad and then attached to a PC running translation software.
So it's not just an adapter. It's also a gamepad and a dedicated computer for translating movement on the fly. I would have liked it to be a bit cheaper, but am content with how they managed to keep its price unchanged (XIM2s w/controller were $180 and needed specific models of official MS controllers, so the XIM3 is actually cheaper with some non-Microsoft gamepads) while throwing in bells and whistles like the LCD screen and making the entire system portable.

If you're playing exclusives or with friends who don't own gaming rigs, I understand the draw, but otherwise you're just giving up arguably superior native mouselook for no real gain. Speed is capped by the game played, so anyone who could handle a gamepad well at max sensitivity would be on par, control-wise, with a XIMer. Console-centric FPS are also balanced for slower, easy-to-hit targets, making good strategy more effective than good aim.
What is the point of this? If you want to play with mouse and kb, why dont you play on pc? Obviously mouse is more accurate than thumbstick, but i really dont see why would you want to play with mouse on console. If the only reason is the easy kills it offers, well i kinda understand that. I think its pathetic, but someone might want to boost their ego killing people with more precise controller, which obviously gives them advantage.

I'm all for MS giving everyone the option of native mouse support and separating players based on input, but until then I will use what means are necessary to actually play a game instead of fiddling with the controller. One could say it even benefits those I am playing against by truly pitting them against myself without a large artificial cap on my ability to translate strategy in to act.
@CEOrko Well thats a good point. Funny i didnt even think about that they actually restrict certain player from playing the game. its pretty obvious, but i didnt think of it until now. I still feel like this is a bit cheating, because mouse provides much more accurate aiming. But i havent tried this out on my own, so i really cant compare. Console games are designed for a controller though, which might make a mouse a little bit less effective, than it "should be" in a real pc shooter.

You do realise that consoles are running Crysis 2 on low, if that considering the texture quality, lighting, FoV, draw distance, complete lack of AA and AF to name a few things.....

I'm telling you that what you're talking about is total BS. If you want to make a real price comparison, you should find out how much it costs to run the game at the same settings as the console. I'm telling you that consoles run it at absolute minimum settings (if that) so you really don't have to spend much at all. It upscales to 720p from 576p too. Maybe $300
So yeah, it's a common misconception that you have to run everything at 120fps at 1600p to play on PC. It's total BS. Oh and 576p is 720x576p iirc so again, that takes nothing to run. 720p isn't even included on graphics benchmarks anyway, which tells you how little it takes to run. So yeah, if you want 60fps at 720p (consoles run 30fps upscaled to 720p most of the time), you could do it for $300 medium settings, maybe 400 due to the HDD price increase (flooding).

What most nooby gamers know is that you don't need the latest and greatest to run PC games. I was raping on the newest games on a Pentium D 940 CPU and BFG 9800 video card up until about march LMFAO. and TO BE HONEST. my old rig STILL had better graphics than consoles lol.
Translation and input is immediate (11ms translation with 8ms between updates) but the game still has to bend to rules like maximum turn speed and horrendous aim "assist" that does nothing but negatively impact the mouse. It might not be the best option for purely twitch PC players or people who are already competent with a gamepad.
if they make consoles compatible with mouse/keyboard they will sell a lot more... noone would spend 1300 euros on a pc if they can have a console for 200€... (yeah, shitty graphics but not that shitty in the end)
It remaps gamepad functions to keys/buttons on the alternate input attached to the device, so ( X ) on the controller can be remapped to the E key and ( A ) to space, while right trigger is mapped to left mouse, etc.

How it works is, you just tell the device what button/or stick, on the Xbox 360 controller you want to bind and then you select whatever button you want that to be on your keyboard (or mouse).
And in the case of aiming/moving, you can select things like the mouse, WASD or a control stick on a PC gamepad (like the Logitech G13 for instance).
One of the benefits of using a gamepad. You can always use a lap-desk, but it still forces a certain posture for comfortable use which isn't a limitation of the dual-joystick controller.
I feel the XIMs are geared more toward veteran PC users who don't want to relearn a new input while still using their preferred method simultaneously in what PC titles they can, though that's not to say it's **only** for that particular group of players to use.

@ThaRealYoungNASA Not really, the only thing gaming keyboards offer is anti ghosted key presses, and the mouse extra buttons and a bit of speed. When all I had was a dell k/b and microsoft mouse, I wasn't any worse. I still took top spot over everyone regardless of hardware.
I DO love my Logitech G11 gaming keyboard, but I could still do as good if all I had was my Dell k/b. And my gaming mouse was destroyed by a short in my mobo last feb this microsoft mouse is "good enough"

Since the XIMs remap controller functions, you would use whatever keys you had set up for left joystick/d-pad/face buttons. For example, my layout in Halo Reach would use WASD to control the selection (left joystick), Space to select (A), and Mouse4 to go cancel (B).

i believe there are 3 usb ports on the XIM3, the lycosa takes up two USB ports, plus the mouse, and the wired controller, that takes up 4 USB ports, how is he playing the game with only 3 USB ports.

K+M isnt cheatin, its all about preference. Using a fight-stick or a steering wheel is exactly the same. In a racing game i prefer a pad but If Lewis Hamilton challenged me to a race in any game but was using a steering wheel i wouldnt say no because ''He is cheating''. Technically, we're talking about players using a gamepad (unlicensed, but Microsoft doesn't rule it a violation of their terms) that takes directions from another input. The standard communication between the controller and the console is present and unbroken in the XIM3 setup. Any difference in performance with the XIMs comes from the mouse being more intuitively designed, not from an input barrier that's only present with native mouselook on the PC. Fair play by LIVE's own rules.
M/kb are 'better'. This is fact. However, to use m/kb on a console COULD be conceived as cheating. It's basically giving you an easier ride against people who're using analogue sticks and their limitations.
I'm better in the context of scene as a console gamer(probably mid-high), but if you were to ask me whether I'd rather use a m/kb, I'd say yes. This doesn't inherently mean that PC gamers have the right to be elitist though.

Some people are just idiots. It's so much easier to aim with a mouse than it is to aim with a miniature joystick that you can only use one finger to maneuver. This doesn't even touch on the fact that you often have to stop controlling the aim joystick so you can press other buttons (such as jump) while engaging opponents. It's harder to become a console pro than it is to become a pc one. It's easier to be "pro" at something that only 100 play than it is to be at something 1000 people play.
Of course is cheating, not everyone has the XIM3 or something like that, keybord and mouse are much faster and precise to play FPS, it is understandable that PC gamers prefer it (include me), but it is still cheating... play PC games!

Things like this makes me want to buy FPS games on consoles and use the KB+M with XIm.
I am a PC player only, but if I can use my keyboard and mouse then it would be so easy to own everyone on consoles.
They wouldn't be able to keep up with movements and turn and accurate aim.
Only ones that could would be other users of same setup, which I suspect most of the "best" players already do.

I still feel like this is a bit cheating, because mouse provides much more accurate aiming. But i havent tried this out on my own, so i really cant compare. Console games are designed for a controller though, which might make a mouse a little bit less effective, than it "should be" in a real pc shooter.

I'm telling you that what you're talking about is total BS. If you want to make a real price comparison, you should find out how much it costs to run the game at the same settings as the console. I'm telling you that consoles run it at absolute minimum settings (if that) so you really don't have to spend much at all. It upscales to 720p from 576p too. Maybe $300

So yeah, it's a common misconception that you have to run everything at 120fps at 1600p to play on PC. It's total BS. Oh and 576p is 720x576p iirc so again, that takes nothing to run. 720p isn't even included on graphics benchmarks anyway, which tells you how little it takes to run. So yeah, if you want 60fps at 720p (consoles run 30fps upscaled to 720p most of the time), you could do it for $300 medium settings, maybe 400 due to the HDD price increase (flooding).

Translation and input is immediate (11ms translation with 8ms between updates) but the game still has to bend to rules like maximum turn speed and horrendous aim "assist" that does nothing but negatively impact the mouse. It might not be the best option for purely twitch PC players or people who are already competent with a gamepad.

It remaps gamepad functions to keys/buttons on the alternate input attached to the device, so ( X ) on the controller can be remapped to the E key and ( A ) to space, while right trigger is mapped to left mouse, etc.

How it works is, you just tell the device what button/or stick, on the Xbox 360 controller you want to bind and then you select whatever button you want that to be on your keyboard (or mouse).
And in the case of aiming/moving, you can select things like the mouse, WASD or a control stick on a PC gamepad (like the Logitech G13 for instance).

One of the benefits of using a gamepad. You can always use a lap-desk, but it still forces a certain posture for comfortable use which isn't a limitation of the dual-joystick controller.
I feel the XIMs are geared more toward veteran PC users who don't want to relearn a new input while still using their preferred method simultaneously in what PC titles they can, though that's not to say it's **only** for that particular group of players to use.

@ThaRealYoungNASA Not really, the only thing gaming keyboards offer is anti ghosted key presses, and the mouse extra buttons and a bit of speed. When all I had was a dell k/b and microsoft mouse, I wasn't any worse. I still took top spot over everyone regardless of hardware.
I DO love my Logitech G11 gaming keyboard, but I could still do as good if all I had was my Dell k/b. And my gaming mouse was destroyed by a short in my mobo last feb this microsoft mouse is "good enough"

Since the XIMs remap controller functions, you would use whatever keys you had set up for left joystick/d-pad/face buttons. For example, my layout in Halo Reach would use WASD to control the selection (left joystick), Space to select (A), and Mouse4 to go cancel (B).

K+M isnt cheatin, its all about preference. Using a fight-stick or a steering wheel is exactly the same. In a racing game i prefer a pad but If Lewis Hamilton challenged me to a race in any game but was using a steering wheel i wouldnt say no because ''He is cheating''. K+M when mastered just allows you to do alot more, alot faster and usually better but thats our choice, every gamer can choose his input method!

But yeah, saying that a m/kb would give advantage over a controller user, then simultaneously saying that it could not be seen as cheating appears a little short-sighted to me. People cheat to gain an advantage over the competition. Sure, there are controllers nowadays that give advantage over the norm - but only certain changes can be made; none of which are as drastic as a complete HCI overhaul.

Technically, we're talking about players using a gamepad (unlicensed, but Microsoft doesn't rule it a violation of their terms) that takes directions from another input. The standard communication between the controller and the console is present and unbroken in the XIM3 setup. Any difference in performance with the XIMs comes from the mouse being more intuitively designed, not from an input barrier that's only present with native mouselook on the PC. Fair play by LIVE's own rules.

M/kb are 'better'. This is fact. However, to use m/kb on a console COULD be conceived as cheating. It's basically giving you an easier ride against people who're using analogue sticks and their limitations.
I'm better in the context of scene as a console gamer(probably mid-high), but if you were to ask me whether I'd rather use a m/kb, I'd say yes. This doesn't inherently mean that PC gamers have the right to be elitist though.

Some people are just idiots. It's so much easier to aim with a mouse than it is to aim with a miniature joystick that you can only use one finger to maneuver. This doesn't even touch on the fact that you often have to stop controlling the aim joystick so you can press other buttons (such as jump) while engaging opponents. It's harder to become a console pro than it is to become a pc one. It's easier to be "pro" at something that only 100 play than it is to be at something 1000 people play.
