  • synth pop.. muhaha

  • NOISE MERCHANTS. Nice description.

Thurston is a Gem. I think I even prefer what he says to the music. Something very cool about the theoretical nature of their thinking and expression. :)

  • oh he diddnt like them flies I sent?...

  • I heart Steve

  • @Abstract67 Don't have a heart attack what ever happens.

  • where can i get sunglasses like that?

  • I'm going to mail Thurston Moore some dead flies.

  • just wondering...since i'm only 14 and therefore didn't live through this time....what period was sonic youth the most popular. cause i read that they only signed to a major record label in the early 90's...and that they got better once they signed so is there heyday considered the early 90's ??

  • @bottafff Sonic Youth was most "popular" in the early to mid '90s, thanks to the wider exposure of their major label deal. However, their heyday is widely regarded to be from 1986 to 1988, when they released the fantastic albums EVOL, Sister, and Daydream Nation. That said, all the periods and phases of their music are awesome, and they are well worth getting into. Start with the three albums I mentioned above.

  • @bottafff As a fellow 14-year-old, but one whose favourite band is Sonic Youth, I'm gonna have to agree with leamanc, but I'm gonna have to add Goo (1990) to that list. The order I was introduced to Sonic Youth in was Goo, Daydream Nation, EVOL, and then Sister, and I'd recommend exactly that order.

  • Give them a break, they are old. I am old too. Light hurts our eyes, we wear sunglasses to block light, not look cool.

  • @7freddie7

    B)

  • I prefer the Jesus and Mary Chain's way...

  • @noisysoul I saw J&M Chain back in 1987. They played at the student center of my local college. Standing room only; mosh pit 5 ft. in front of the band; the band on the floor, same level as us, no stage, no barricades; only about 200 to 300 people. It was one of the best damn small venue shows I have ever seen.

  • Dude, thurston moore is such a chill, smart dude. Love it...

  • When you're rock stars you can wear sunglasses whenever and wherever you want. Check it.

  • Thurston Moore "I'm not much of an artist."

    Lie

  • that interviewer is such a bellend

  • @scottjk1995 Why?

  • @wellpaidscientist he's just asking silly questions and is overall a bit of a nonce

  • I've never heard of Sonic Youth getting stoned everyday or anything like that. I heard one of them sneezed while trying out cocaine for the first time.

  • the interviewer has no idea about anything hahaha, i mean, asking sonic youth why they never used synths? this guy knows nothing about them!

  • haha steves glasses after thruston.

  • 2:45 to 2:54. Duffus asks a dumbass question. Derrrr.

  • I hope he's not wearing sunglasses to hide the fact he's taking drugs

  • @Whyisthisthat Who gives a fuck doin drugs is fun and they did use drugs

  • @pot4tots Family & Friends who are left behind to mourn

  • @Whyisthisthat weed dosent kill man

  • awesome interview.

  • these fuckers are old now

  • @OfficerMcGroist No, they're not.

  • God, they were such cool motherfuckers. Sonic Youth were, and still are, and will forever be, amazing.

  • "...a character for a tv show or something..."

They were in the Simpsons in '96 lol.

  • i know they need glassess because there kool like that and i thought steve shelley waz a little fatter or waz it me?

  • is thurston a leo? i know there is a picture of him wearing that shirt in the deluxe daydream nation cd booklet.

  • I was 5 at the time. seems so weird to me, I love their music so much and they had so much influence on me when I was learning to play, I literally can't express what it means to me. guess that would make Moore happy - that thousands of people are now blasting people with new music partly because of him

  • @thomasrix LOLO I was a fetus

  • "We're much more into the Beatles then we are into synth pop."

  • Im already there buddy ;)

  • sonic youth should be listened to by all, then listened to again, and again, and then again until it bleeds into their soul. eternal love for their brilliance.

  • @bourgoisereader up until say Washing Machine for me....then they lost me...but EVOL and GOO and SISTER are timeless...

  • Steve's adorably shy :>

  • @JonasHaterTillDeath Shelly is the drummer.

  • of course Shelley sucks at guitar... he's a drummer, genius

  • lol

  • @JonasHaterTillDeath *says a Radiohead fan*

    lol

  • @kiribula What does Radiohead have to do with a poorly created trolling?

  • @halifuckinfan The better question would be, what is a fucking Radiohead fan doing on a Sonic Youth video ?

  • @halifuckinfan Nevermind a Good Charlotte one lolz

  • @gsh73la Lols on music I listened to when I was 14 and suicidal. YOUZ TROLLING! That's even more disregardable.

  • @JonasHaterTillDeath

You are aware that Steve Shelley is the drummer, therefore his skill on guitar are irrelevant, right?

  • they're sonic youth.

    they need sunglasses.

  • they're inside

    they don't need sunglasses

  • never too dark to be cool

  • steve speaks. huzzah.
