Red Army POW were kept in bad conditions, some of them died, some settled down in Poland after being relist. You number is based on simple calculation comparing how many were taken prisoners and how many returned to Soviet Union. Other difference, you might think about, is that Soviets were invaders.

First of all it's not an actual order to start killing of polish officers, it's only Beria's proposal which he allegedly brought to Politburo's meeting 5 March 1940 which is impossible. No one goverment operates like that. Each proposal had to be sent to each member of committee or Politburo at least 1-2 weeks before the meeting. There is Beria's signature and a date 5 March 1940 on page 4.

There was no order to kill Soviet POW in Tuchola, Poland. Nobody died as a result of single gun shut on the back of their heads. Learn about Spanish flue and typhus raging in Europe after WW I. Red Army POW were kept in bad conditions, some of them died, some settled down in Poland after being relist. You number is based on simple calculation comparing how many were taken prisoners and how many returned to Soviet Union. Other difference, you might think about, is that Soviets were invaders.

Major cities like Hamburg only had 40-50 Gestapo agents each... they were so efficient because the German people were happy and compliant. That's a fact.

You're right about the ignorance of the masses; it can be harnessed for evil ends. Still, i think Hitler is somewhat misunderstood today. Killing Jews was never a primary or initial aim... but he did start losing his sanity once Germany was playing for higher stakes than he ever imagined while the tide of WW2 turned in 1942-43.
If one knows nothing about the historical context, and only looks at the whole Nazi movement in a vaccuum, it's easy to see Hitler as no more than a bloodthirsty maniac.

Seems like a solid, unbiased analysis to me. I know i come off as a Hitler apologist, but IME to even express a reasonable view like "Stalin was probably more evil than him, but Hitler was out of his mind" has provoked amazing backlashes. I don't get it.
Some tell me Stalin was "flawed" but at least cared about equality and workers' rights. They seem to have no clue that the average worker in Nazi Germany indeed had much higher living standards and more freedom than their Soviet counterparts.

Hitler may have been insane but to the German people in the mid-late 30's he was practically a benevolent dictator. He rooted out Weimar corruption and cared more about German unity and prosperity than anything else.

This is because many of them like FDR worked with the Reds and make alliances with them. Also, Communists and fellow travelers had infiltrated our government, the media, and other institutions.
So while it was not only acceptable but encouraged to point out the crimes of the Nazis, the Reds were treated more kindly.

The Poles in Russia were not prisoners of war. The Poles born in the returned West Russian territories were let go home. They Poles from territories occupied by Germans were interned. Russia armed, equipped and supplied the interned Poles for fighting. They also could work for money in Russia. But the most of them wanted neither to work nor to fight. They preferred to be a burden to Russian people which fought against Germans. Then Anders Army decided to go to Iran. So what is a problem?

@Bemique Poland was conquered by Germany. According to the law of wartime, the Russians had to intern the Polish military men. The interned Poles could work or fight. Russia supplied, equipped and armed the Polish Anders Army for fighting, as well. But the most Poles did not want to fight or work. In fairness, I should say that the Poles fought more than the French. However, in the list of winners of WW2 we see France (a true friend of Poland), but not Poland.

This document was forged by Eltsin.
First of all it's not an actual order to start killing of polish officers, it's only Beria's proposal which he allegedly brought to Politburo's meeting 5 March 1940 which is impossible. No one goverment operates like that. Each proposal had to be sent to each member of committee or Politburo at least 1-2 weeks before the meeting. There is Beria's signature and a date 5 March 1940 on page 4.
On page 1 at top left corner the date is missing. Why?

I can't wait to see Andrzej Wajda's film on Katyn. It is supposed to come out in September of this year !!!
