a really great car, for like $25000 now if you can find one with a 5.4L V8, these cars match ugly overrated euro cars, not to mention the new G6E Turbo, they are rockets, and again a really love driving my Fairmont Ghia BFII with its sleek 6 speed ZF tranny and a smooth 230kW/500Nm of torque 5.4L 3V engine , pure V8 power aided by VCT and new knock sensor, a subtle improvement over the previous Barra220 which was also great, strong, smooth, well identical to Barra230:)

The car is stunning!! Combined with that Auto, and a part of me would want the V8 but sensibly I would get the i6 which is more Australian and probably bloody good anyways and of course better on fuel. I've always liked the rounded touches and design of the VY-VZ interiors but the BA-BF interior is similar and in Gloss Black in the Ghia is just superb. I just wish you could have good velour seats (like in fairmont) instead of the leather in the Ghia. Still aside, my loyalty to Toyota remains.
No fairmont ghia in the FG range, it'll be called the "G6E" it will have a turbo 6 as an option instead of the SOHC V8 option and It looks wonderful! :D If you look it up, FG = Fairmont Ghia.
thats why i said im a "die-hard ford fan". I had the choice of getting a BF mkII or an FG through work. I got the BF. why?
1) the centre console and steering wheel. although the steering wheel is an improvement over the fat bastard wheel in the mkII, mine has moulded hand grips, and the screen looks weird up the top, and i know its supposed to be better, but i prefer not to get frostbite on my fingers.
2) the body makes it look fat, which dimensionally it is in almost every way
Because Falcons are very quiet and not as noisy as every commodore out there...so you wont feel the speed.....you often see too many stupid P platers driving old cheap commodores....because they are loud , they have no traction control enabled like most Falcon series ...and they think that they're moving fast , but in fact a stock ED Falcon is a lot quicker and more responsive than a brand new Magna 380 , Aurion V6 or SV6 VE commodore....thats the fact;) nothing beats the I6 technology;)
ps: these stock I6 Falcons beat the following stock Holden Commodores.
from EAII to BFII I6 they beat the following I6 and V6 Commodores:

So when you see a Fairmont Ghia 5.4Litre V8 out there...dont be surprised, those 230kW it has are made on RON91 petrol , give it RON98 and soon you get close to 250kW and over 540Nm of torque;)... vs 6.0L Statesman or SS that actually have less power on RON91 but only make 270kW/530Nm on RON98 therefore Ford is a winner....nothing beats a cam driven valves...SOHC 3 massive vales are better than 2;) therefore this car is just a little quicker than a 270kW LS2 powered Commodore out there;)
every single Ford Falcon from EAII to EL from AU to BA from BA to BFII fitted with the Inline six , whether its an old MPFI 3.9Litre or a 4.0Litre OHC or DOHC VCT/DVCT...they can all do over 1000000kms with a regular servicing...vs the Holdens or "Buicks 3.8Litre" that never sees 300000ks including the 3.6L Alloytec and the GENIII 5.7 and GEN4 6.0L excluding the Aussie 304 and 350cu engines that are as good as Fords Boss and Barra engines in terms of life and reliability.
These cars go for ever, the interior is well proportioned,well balanced,6 speez ZF with the 6th gear of 0.69 and the final at 2.53,this baby purrsss at just 1500rpm doing 120km/h thanks to its TORQUE and ample power which is more than enough for a 1800kg car,but again it all lies in its responsive TRUCK engine with a TRUCK architecture 3V cylinder head which has more grunt than its brother XR8/GT at lower RPM,these 3V engines are highly workable and can achieve over 300kW with just ECU tune up.

These cars are not build by high quality raw meterials like Merc and BMW or Audi or anything other thats 2x the price, but for the money you get something thats close with more torque and power in terms of a standard, more reliability, more size, more comfort and longer engine and mechanical life than any other luxury car on earth.
1st of all...every single Fairmont Ghia from the first BA model fitted with the 5.4Litre Barra220 engine which actually makes more power than factory tuned 220kW, every one of those V8 powered cars will last you over 1000000kms just like the Aussie engineered and build Inline I6 engine we all know;)

Go to Germany and a Mercedes is their Ford or Holden. They are marketed to make them superior in every way. Sure, build quality is better, but for your money, you cannot go past an Australian built sedan.
But one thing above all else that gets to me is that the new base model Mercedes-Benz C-Class is $56,000, but for that you can have a Holden Calais V, with a V6 or V8 & in the Mercedes you can only have a little superchagred four cylinder engine, so why would you buy the Merc, that's just madness!
Well I compared the Calais V to the C-Class because they are thr are the same price, but yeah, I heavily respect the Fairmont Ghia because $46,000 for a luxury family sedan, makes it $10,000 less then the top of the line Commodore & they're both in the same league, but I don't think you can get any better then that.

in terms of comfort, its based on body size (not fat...usually) but height. im 190 odd cm (6ft 3 or something) and i have this car. very comfortable.

thats why i said im a "die-hard ford fan". I had the choice of getting a BF mkII or an FG through work. I got the BF. why?
1) the centre console and steering wheel. although the steering wheel is an improvement over the fat bastard wheel in the mkII, mine has moulded hand grips, and the screen looks weird up the top, and i know its supposed to be better, but i prefer not to get frostbite on my fingers.
2) the body makes it look fat, which dimensionally it is in almost every way

Because Falcons are very quiet and not as noisy as every commodore out there...so you wont feel the speed.....you often see too many stupid P platers driving old cheap commodores....because they are loud , they have no traction control enabled like most Falcon series ...and they think that they're moving fast , but in fact a stock ED Falcon is a lot quicker and more responsive than a brand new Magna 380 , Aurion V6 or SV6 VE commodore....thats the fact;) nothing beats the I6 technology;)

from EAII to BFII I6 they beat the following I6 and V6 Commodores:

VN/VP/VS/VR/VT/VX/VY/VZ/VE including the old VL "Nissan Skyline R31" and the stock Turbo version of it.
Yes a stock 3.9Litre EAII with 139kW keeps up with a 195kW VE SV6 Commodore...not to mention that the stock EB 4.0 beats it...and XR EB/ED/EF/EL/AU/BA-BF destroy it even the stock EL Futura or GLI eats it...yes:) its the fact...

So when you see a Fairmont Ghia 5.4Litre V8 out there...dont be surprised, those 230kW it has are made on RON91 petrol , give it RON98 and soon you get close to 250kW and over 540Nm of torque;)... vs 6.0L Statesman or SS that actually have less power on RON91 but only make 270kW/530Nm on RON98 therefore Ford is a winner....nothing beats a cam driven valves...SOHC 3 massive vales are better than 2;) therefore this car is just a little quicker than a 270kW LS2 powered Commodore out there;)

every single Ford Falcon from EAII to EL from AU to BA from BA to BFII fitted with the Inline six , whether its an old MPFI 3.9Litre or a 4.0Litre OHC or DOHC VCT/DVCT...they can all do over 1000000kms with a regular servicing...vs the Holdens or "Buicks 3.8Litre" that never sees 300000ks including the 3.6L Alloytec and the GENIII 5.7 and GEN4 6.0L excluding the Aussie 304 and 350cu engines that are as good as Fords Boss and Barra engines in terms of life and reliability.

These cars go for ever, the interior is well proportioned,well balanced,6 speez ZF with the 6th gear of 0.69 and the final at 2.53,this baby purrsss at just 1500rpm doing 120km/h thanks to its TORQUE and ample power which is more than enough for a 1800kg car,but again it all lies in its responsive TRUCK engine with a TRUCK architecture 3V cylinder head which has more grunt than its brother XR8/GT at lower RPM,these 3V engines are highly workable and can achieve over 300kW with just ECU tune up.

230kW at 5350rpm , 500Nm of torque at 3500rpm ... where you have 465Nm at just 1500rpm, i'd like to see the LS1 or LS2 make that , in fact they are close , but how much does the LS2 make at just 1000rpm??? well it makes just under 300Nm vs the Barra "TRITON" 5.4Litre that makes 411Nm factory tuned at just 1000rpm , yes thats your ordinary BA or BF/BFII 5.4Litre 3V Fairmont/SR/XT or Fairlane G8 or G220 Ghias;) or Fairmont Ghia;)

These cars are not build by high quality raw meterials like Merc and BMW or Audi or anything other thats 2x the price, but for the money you get something thats close with more torque and power in terms of a standard, more reliability, more size, more comfort and longer engine and mechanical life than any other luxury car on earth.

1st of all...every single Fairmont Ghia from the first BA model fitted with the 5.4Litre Barra220 engine which actually makes more power than factory tuned 220kW, every one of those V8 powered cars will last you over 1000000kms just like the Aussie engineered and build Inline I6 engine we all know;)

Go to Germany and a Mercedes is their Ford or Holden. They are marketed to make them superior in every way. Sure, build quality is better, but for your money, you cannot go past an Australian built sedan.

But one thing above all else that gets to me is that the new base model Mercedes-Benz C-Class is $56,000, but for that you can have a Holden Calais V, with a V6 or V8 & in the Mercedes you can only have a little superchagred four cylinder engine, so why would you buy the Merc, that's just madness!

I would take a Fairmont Ghia personally...prefer the Inline 6 to an Alloytec 6, plus the ZF transmission is hard to beat. :D
But the Calais V still offers a much better package than a Mercedes or BMW, of which you're paying mostly for tax.

Well I compared the Calais V to the C-Class because they are thr are the same price, but yeah, I heavily respect the Fairmont Ghia because $46,000 for a luxury family sedan, makes it $10,000 less then the top of the line Commodore & they're both in the same league, but I don't think you can get any better then that.

I have been in a C200 before.
For the price, you get seats worse than an Omega or XT, lawnmower engine, a rough ride and the interior was plain as buggery.
As I said, Australian cars are great value for what you get. There's no bullshit on the badge. Good honest cars.

But incase you haven't known yet, the C-Class won the 2007 Wheels COTY. Why? Would have been better of with a goat as the COTY. And the first paragraph opens up by saying it's comfortable. Really? Every Falcon we read about will be the last and suck. Funny how when you compare it to a base model Mercedes, it's so much more comfortable, smoother, powerful, and has more features.
It's all in the badge and people's pursuit for image, which I think is a waste of time since we'll all be dead one day anyway, and all your status will be forgotten.
I say live for the day and get some pure Aussie grunt!

in terms of comfort, its based on body size (not fat...usually) but height. im 190 odd cm (6ft 3 or something) and i have this car. very comfortable.
hopped into an astra. rubbish. seats are too short, along with just about any other non-4wd ive been in. the only other car that has the same room is the yaris, surprisingly, of which i also had once.

This is the car Ford in Europe and the US SHOULD BE SELLING... It'd make a perfect Scorpio successor, and would leave many of Ford's US offerings in the dust...
Regularly I drive an AUII Fairmont - itself a v.good car that holds the road incredibly well at high speed, and feels a lot smaller than it really is - I definitely aspire one day to a BF!!!
