@chuchaka It's the beginning of the beginning of Yu-gi-Oh. It's how everything started, and where all the characters are introduced. (I know in season one everyone is introduced to, but season zero has more indepth introductions to the characters)
@chuchaka kinda, season one has a breif summery of some of the things that happen in season zero(a.k.a Shadi, Bakura, and Kaiba) but I think this is only because season one aired in more places than season zero(if I'm correct it only aired in japan). Yes the pharaoh is a bit insane(wouldn't you be after being trapped for over 3,000 years?) anyway, comments from the author say that Yu-Gi-Oh was originally going to be a (or like a)fighting manga, but it turned into something different.
@chuchaka this is how the manga started: seaons 0 is volumes 1-7 (tho changed a bit). if you want to know how the whole series goes, i strongly suggest reading the manga.
Seriously Season 0 Is the best Yu-Gi-Oh out there I mean the others have there good parts but they are quite as good!! Plus Yami is way more bad ass!! and Yugi is so CUTE!!

@Enverdj8 This was the first ever Yu-Gi-Oh made, it's actually an anime, not a kids show, in Japan probably all of the seasons have swearing in it, 4kids censored everything, even guns. I'm afraid to say you watched the 4kids one, watch the subbed ones instead, they're probably better.
Season zero was only ever displayed on Japan networks because of the intensity of it. It would probably be Rated R if it was ever released in the United States. They changed the graphics and storyline to fit more with the card game and American audiences.

I mean it seems like they put more emphasis on the characters and conversations than they do on the actual card game, but that is just a blind view of someone who has only seen the first episode.
@MrDataCode This season was made based on the manga, and was never aired in English because of the violence. It was made before the other seasons, which was not as violent and got aired in English; but in the Japanese version there were sometimes things like characters being killed that were only mentioned, and I think there was just as much swearing as this season, that was edited by 4Kids to make it more suitable towards kids.
@AmyHedgewolf The Anime 4kids picked up was actually a separate adaptation of the Manga series, specifically the Duelist series after the original volume seven, which has nothing to do with this version. Note the different animation. It was made solely for the Card Game and that's what 4kids had it mind when dubbing it. Technically, 4kids didn't skip this "season" since it wasn't part of the YGO Anime we're familiar with at all. They didn't pick it up probably due to violence.
@MrDataCode It's made by a different company and follows the manga more. It didn't go well with children and was really badly made so they came up with a new Yugioh.

@MrDataCode that's because everything that 4kids dub to english is directed at kids. just watch yugioh in japanese trust me it's better. yugioh in jap is actually for teens and older kids. there's quite a lot of swearing and in season 2 battle city when the evil guys want to send yugi to the "shadow realm" in english, they actually want to kill him in japanese.so that's why I hate watching dubs. they just aren't true to the japanese anime.
@MrDataCode well the show is still about card games, but there's alot more swearing and in duelist kingdom even some guns, anyway it's more violent. so if you like watching the episodes of season 0 that revolved around duel monsters game, than sure, try it. you might like it.
@MrDataCode That's something you're going to have to take up with the fansubbers. Japanese doesn't have swearing in it in at all the same way English does so they don't restrict their language according to the same criteria. The use of swears in a translation is typically determined by the maturity of the target age group or whether those subtitling the work believe the meaning of the words is equivalent. Yugioh is aimed at young teens, who receive very little target animation in the West.
@MrDataCode the ones you watched, were they saturday morning cartoons, either on kids wb, 4kids or cartoonetwork?, if it was one of those then it was way after this, but what your watching on this "season 0" is from the original yugioh manga that started it, i think it only aired in japan, and the americanised version tooks bits and pieces from this to make the one you're probly thinking of, hoped that helped some >.<

I'm not going to begin to discuss why they thought that but hey, it's but what they did. This season also occured BEFORE the 1st english series. What the english/Us know as "yugioh" is actually "Yugioh! Duel Monsters"
@littlewarriors4 It's more of a joke because of LK. But the reason it's "forbidden" is mostly because Yami is more of an anti-hero and brutally punishes people. American shows usually have goody-goody protagonists.
I just gained so much respect for this, I've always been a huge anime fan, but i stopped liking Yugioh cuz the 4Kids version sucks, and now that i see this (even though it's not the actual series) i think i'll go watch the other one in subs :D

Blonds in American are always blue eyed dum-dums and are more or less valley girls or guitarist, the Brits have this thing for people falling down man holes or at least they did. The list goes on and on. The old honey man thing is just something out in the Far East that is a joke and a long running one that is all.

@Enverdj8 This was the first ever Yu-Gi-Oh made, it's actually an anime, not a kids show, in Japan probably all of the seasons have swearing in it, 4kids censored everything, even guns. I'm afraid to say you watched the 4kids one, watch the subbed ones instead, they're probably better.

Season zero was only ever displayed on Japan networks because of the intensity of it. It would probably be Rated R if it was ever released in the United States. They changed the graphics and storyline to fit more with the card game and American audiences.

@xxxAnimeUploaderxxxx Yes that is why I added the Question mark. Also in terms of duels, are they less strategic in Season 0 compared to rest? I mean it seems like they put more emphasis on the characters and conversations than they do on the actual card game, but that is just a blind view of someone who has only seen the first episode.

@MrDataCode This season was made based on the manga, and was never aired in English because of the violence. It was made before the other seasons, which was not as violent and got aired in English; but in the Japanese version there were sometimes things like characters being killed that were only mentioned, and I think there was just as much swearing as this season, that was edited by 4Kids to make it more suitable towards kids.

@AmyHedgewolf The Anime 4kids picked up was actually a separate adaptation of the Manga series, specifically the Duelist series after the original volume seven, which has nothing to do with this version. Note the different animation. It was made solely for the Card Game and that's what 4kids had it mind when dubbing it. Technically, 4kids didn't skip this "season" since it wasn't part of the YGO Anime we're familiar with at all. They didn't pick it up probably due to violence.

@MrDataCode Yugioh season 0 was the original version, before 4kids or the whole duel monster arch. originally the on you've seen on tv is called Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters, it came after the success of this version.

@MrDataCode that's because everything that 4kids dub to english is directed at kids. just watch yugioh in japanese trust me it's better. yugioh in jap is actually for teens and older kids. there's quite a lot of swearing and in season 2 battle city when the evil guys want to send yugi to the "shadow realm" in english, they actually want to kill him in japanese.so that's why I hate watching dubs. they just aren't true to the japanese anime.

@MrDataCode well the show is still about card games, but there's alot more swearing and in duelist kingdom even some guns, anyway it's more violent. so if you like watching the episodes of season 0 that revolved around duel monsters game, than sure, try it. you might like it.

@MrDataCode That's something you're going to have to take up with the fansubbers. Japanese doesn't have swearing in it in at all the same way English does so they don't restrict their language according to the same criteria. The use of swears in a translation is typically determined by the maturity of the target age group or whether those subtitling the work believe the meaning of the words is equivalent. Yugioh is aimed at young teens, who receive very little target animation in the West.

@MrDataCode the ones you watched, were they saturday morning cartoons, either on kids wb, 4kids or cartoonetwork?, if it was one of those then it was way after this, but what your watching on this "season 0" is from the original yugioh manga that started it, i think it only aired in japan, and the americanised version tooks bits and pieces from this to make the one you're probly thinking of, hoped that helped some >.<

@MrDataCode Yugioh as a whole was aimed at an older audience. 4Kids severely editted it to be more marketable to kids. I'm not going to begin to discuss why they thought that but hey, it's but what they did. This season also occured BEFORE the 1st english series. What the english/Us know as "yugioh" is actually "Yugioh! Duel Monsters"

@littlewarriors4 It's more of a joke because of LK. But the reason it's "forbidden" is mostly because Yami is more of an anti-hero and brutally punishes people. American shows usually have goody-goody protagonists.

I just gained so much respect for this, I've always been a huge anime fan, but i stopped liking Yugioh cuz the 4Kids version sucks, and now that i see this (even though it's not the actual series) i think i'll go watch the other one in subs :D
