Not much work to do when each house is so close to the next one. Each person basically does 15 feet to the street then digs out their car. It's a lot harder on a 120 foot driveway or more. Or even 50 feet would be so much more back breaking work. This is also a smallish blizzard. I remember we got 37 inches once. After road crews piled it up, it didn't melt until June, seriously.

People should not be hating , The East Coast got hit by a significant storm and places like NY City don't have a ton of garages which means people street park and that can be a real pain to deal with when you need to plow. Shame that so many people opted to take their cars out before roads were cleared that only made things worse. Liiving in the West Coast myself now but grew up in NJ just south of Elizatbeth , so I know what a west heavy snow can be like.
The best was the gas stations pulling scams, like Hess gas station on 10th ave and 44th in Manhattan. What they were doing was leaving the snow, and icing it down with water so when cars pulled in they would be helplessly stuck. Then dudes would appear with shovels demanding 40 bucks to free them. Once word got around I actually saw gas stations as far as Elmont pulling that shit as late as Thursday morning. You pull in to get gas and the ground is covered with 2 feet of snow and ice

In cases like this, when the snow falls heavy and quick then the temperature drops rapidly, that snow gets hard and slick catching people off guard. Driving through snow isn't usually a problem. But ice and packed-in snow is a whole different story.

Right now its 0 degree C here and the roads are very slippery.. you just have to drive careful... Last weekend we got 1ft (30cm) of snow adding to the condition we already have here in Sweden.. I guess you have to transport much of that snow out of the city if you get more..

Not much work to do when each house is so close to the next one. Each person basically does 15 feet to the street then digs out their car. It's a lot harder on a 120 foot driveway or more. Or even 50 feet would be so much more back breaking work. This is also a smallish blizzard. I remember we got 37 inches once. After road crews piled it up, it didn't melt until June, seriously.

Haha! Guy shovels snow on the neighbours car :D Good that someone else gets their part of snow as well... In Helsinki (Finland) we now have ~70cm (28 inches) of snow and it's still snowing as I write. Usually we have most snow on february, so we still might have a lot to wait for :/
Even so this is nothing compared to Northern Finland where it is just normal to have around 1-2 meters of snow :D

People should not be hating , The East Coast got hit by a significant storm and places like NY City don't have a ton of garages which means people street park and that can be a real pain to deal with when you need to plow. Shame that so many people opted to take their cars out before roads were cleared that only made things worse. Liiving in the West Coast myself now but grew up in NJ just south of Elizatbeth , so I know what a west heavy snow can be like.

The best was the gas stations pulling scams, like Hess gas station on 10th ave and 44th in Manhattan. What they were doing was leaving the snow, and icing it down with water so when cars pulled in they would be helplessly stuck. Then dudes would appear with shovels demanding 40 bucks to free them. Once word got around I actually saw gas stations as far as Elmont pulling that shit as late as Thursday morning. You pull in to get gas and the ground is covered with 2 feet of snow and ice

The sanitation hasn't plowed my neighborhood at all and everything is shut down! Spent the day traversing the newly formed ponds at each street corner now that the temps are rising. Sometimes, ya just gotta step in and sink. I also noticed how helpful people were in assisting those of us who are less coordinated. I must've said,"Thank you, you're so kind" about a dozen times. And watch out for the five foot icicles that crash to the ground from great heights like guided missles. Ouch!

In cases like this, when the snow falls heavy and quick then the temperature drops rapidly, that snow gets hard and slick catching people off guard. Driving through snow isn't usually a problem. But ice and packed-in snow is a whole different story.
