OMG thats soo sad.....But why would they wanna kill the sharks? Cant they just design the nets that they stay away from the populated beaches? I mean theres no point in killing them. Im from The Netherlands by the way, small country in northern Europe ;)
In Australia we have a problem with sharks comming in to the beaches. There are sonar systems that could protect the beaches but the cost is much higher than just killing every thing with shark nets. The Australian goverment is looking at sonar systems but I think it is easer and cheeper just to kill everthing.I am trying to get them to listen but I dont hold out much hope.

do you know if the gov is doing anything more to remove the nets?
i hope they do they seem pointless. id rather there be no nets then see more of this!

It is not just sharks that die dolphens,whales.seals.rays and lots of diferent animals die it the nets. It is cruel very cruel.
The problem is that the death happens under water so people dont see them.

Shark nets are gill nets they are designed to wraparound the shark and sufercate them
It can take days for them to die
