If I had to pick a favorite band, I'd have to say Queen. These guys have it all....every element of the perfect musical entertainment group. both great bands! both great guitarists! I love Queen and LedZeppelin! I gotta give the championship belt to JimmyPage though.Anyone who say`s BrianMay is better lead guitarist than JimmyPage is being close-minded and delusional! Even Brian would tip his hat to Page who was fluent in not only 'pentatonic' but 'mixolydian','ionian' ,'aeolian', as well as some Indian scales.Also page explored open tunings,including DADGAD, which he invented.Brian used 'pentatonic' and 'ionian' scales exclusively.
You make a point, but i don't think Brian really wanted to continually swap guitars each time he wanted a different tuning, as he was (and is) so used to the Red Special. It is not easy to retune either as it has a floating bridge.
As far as i am aware, Brian has used a wider variety of playing techniques than Jimmy. He has used tapping and sweep picking in his work. He also was the first to use the 3 part delay live on stage, with a tape loop he built.
Brian's use of harmonisers is also important, and his sucessful solo career in the 90's shows that he is capable of not only playing lead guitar, but becoming a front man too.
Another important point is that Brian never let drink or drugs compromise his work. Jimmy knows his scales, but anyone with a guitar theory book have that knowledge. Using them is another thing, and in Jimmy's case, he struggled at times. Zeppelin DVDs are nortorious for overdubbing on guitar parts due to this.
Sorry for being rude but poussyledzep, die or go watch Led Zeppelin instead of this so you can't place fucking lame comments again.. If you hate Queen, keep it for yourself and don't post annoying comments on EVERY part of this tour.. Sigh.

If the strings snapped on the solo spot then he would have had to use his backup guitar for Under Pressure (the yellow Red Special backup as it takes five minutes or so to restring a guitar not 30 seconds). The guitar cable came loose so Brian, after his solo spot, went to fix the lead so it wouldn't come undone again. I am a guitarist so I know this. A guitar string snap occurs when it's either a ping or the guitar starts to sounds out of tune while strumming a chord hard.
Theres muuuuuuch more reasons than that for a guitar string snapping, i.e when the string is bent too much, and Brian likes bending his strings. And theres a big chance that it was someone else that fixed his lead, or maybe changed the one he was using.
Also, he has more than one RED red special so he maybe went to get one of the replicas that WASNT the yellow one.
In 1982, Brian only had ONE Red Special backup and it was the Yellow Birch which he uses on Action This Day and Dragon Attack/Now I'm Here (Reprise) (which he destroyed in the US a month after this show). He had backups subsequently made by Guild in 1984 (see the One Vision clip) and the Burns ones he uses now. His lead got disconnected here.
