The thing on his headstock mutes any string resonance past the locking nut. Sometimes you'll see guys with tape on the strings up there.. same deal. Just muting at little possible noise up there. Doesn't affect open strings ringing or any of that.

@Botdra its a head band for like soling or something when your playing fast and you hit a string on accident it does ring if you put it over say the first fret

@slipknotandmh I've seen those before but I don't think it is... it's far too big, and he doesn't use it obviously since he still has the locking nut, which is brutal to get that over while it still being tight enough to mute the strings.
