In 2003, Yukos oil firm CEO Mikhail Khodorkovsky was arrested, with his company's shares eventually sold "at auction" − mostly to Gazprom. In 2004, Putin abolished local elections and introduced Kremlin-appointed governors in provincial regions from the Baltic Sea to Siberia.
sorry, what a non-sense *Putin abolished local elections*. local elections were never abolished and local legislatives are elected by population. just governor's position is filled not by elections but by appointment. and i know that the measure really helped to cope with the eltzin's mess and total state desorganization.
Just take all his money and property and throw him in the street to start over. I could understand him not paying taxes if he was struggling to make end meet and he could easlly be a gov. liability. 20,0000,000 dollars and not a penny in taxes . come on.
go get facts before posting such a ridiculous crap! Yukos was one of the largest tax payers in Russia. Those 20,000,000 was a fabricated case that would not even reach the court in any Western country...
i wonder why jewish oligarchs Berezovskiy and Gusinskiy had to run abroad to escape prosecution, another jewish guy Khodorkovskiy did not escape and is in prison but Abramovich (jewish oligarch as well) got 13 bln $ for what he eventually has stolen from russian people? what's a difference?
Abramovich was Yeltsin's tool back in 90's. Today he's most likely Putin's tool. I guess he was just not as arrogant and clueless of who "the boss" really is as Berezovsky and Gusinsky were.
Who now took Khodorkovsky shares in Yukos after it was "auctioned"? It's Putin's new oligarchs, including Medvedev.
Amazing that in the Russian hit movie "Oligarch" the lead character "Platon" bears the same name as Khodorkovsky friend and inmate. If these two are able to make a turnaround and get back at their tormentors, life would have imitated the movie.
i don't really care what the yukos's shares went to. khodorkovskiy and his band build the youkos thing on crimes, crimes, and more crimes. they got punished, thanks God.
I wonder what Putin has in store for this guy's new trial

I wouldn0t use that term "Jewish Zionist"... I'd prefer saying a robber-baron who stole from a lot of people.

yukos is dead. its shares have no value whatsoever. yukos had to sell most of its assets in order to pay all fines.
