I dont believe this, finally after almost 40 years I finally found this most wonderful song again. Believe it was around Christmas 1973 when I heard this song on the radio for the first time a few times. I could never ever get the title as back in those years you had a couple of radio stations, but I kept on believing that one day I will fall in love with song again and find it somewhere out there. I could always sing the refrain "Some they wish to change their dish but its a way of life.
The real heavies of the late 60's are involved in this lovely tune, although ultimately they became associated with the music which was to herald a fundamental change to pop music.
I also heard this brilliant song on Radio 2 ,three days ago and have been playing it on youtube ever since. I am 43 and love music from the early sixties 'till the mid eighties so I am very surprised I have never heard this song before or heard of this group.
This is a real gem. I heard it on Steve Wright's radio show today. Even though i am in my late 40s i can't say i have heard it before. I wish the songs of today were like this.
heard this on Brian Matthews 'Sound of the Sixties' yesterday and had to look it up, the related video is shorter so I looked this up, this is whats gr8 about You Tube...brilliant service
Why doesn't anybody harmonize anymore? It's all about the individual now. Listen to this and it has you scratching your head. Do you think anyone could record or write for that matter "American City Suite" by Cashman & West? I doubt it.' A way of Life' is in the same category. It's ME not the song.
Speaking of Cashman and West, a duo which hardly anyone knows of...I am waiting for you or someone to post the song 'A Song That Never Comes' by Cashman, Pistilli and West...a great harmony song...Mama Cass did a decent cover of it, but the original is best..was out in '68 I believe. In addition, a year later they called themselves the Buchanon Brothers, and recorded a GREAT tune called 'Son of a Lovin Man' which i hope someone posts !
to join your discussion.where are all the nice people in the world? where are manners and politeness ?. todays world seems to exist of me me me.and what can i get what can i have.
So beautiful! I love the way the song changes style throughout but at the same time keeping that lovely smooth Country and Western vibe! As Fluff would've said - "Stay bright!"
This a great record. Truly original in content, delivery and presentation. What handsome and pretty lot they were. Don't get bands like this anymore...
thanks for posting this song. it brings back many memories. i had just started working and it seemed to be on the radio every 5 mins. its a way of life.
Hey I'm a couple of years older than you. I started work in August 1969. I think I was still at school though when "A Way Of Life" came out. I fell in love with the song straightaway and I STILL love to hear it today.
11 August 1969: my first day at work. On the radio: Family Dogg, Stevie Wonder, The Bee Gees, The Move, etc, etc. What great days they were...Or were they...? What do you think?
Oh those Jubbly things, yes I remember them. And duffel bags. No such thing as kids taking their books to school in rucksacks. Give ME a one-way ticket too, I'd be happy to go back!
One-way tickets...but how would we get back? Would we want to come back? Family Dogg, what happened to them? Did they go back...never to return? Who cares, I'm packing my case...be ready...
Knowing how things are in the world today, no I don't think I'd like to come back to the present. Also, music-wise, I'm stuck in a 50s-70s timewarp, with some 40s, 80s, maybe a few 90s tracks thrown in for good measure but not any of todays stuff. I only have to hear certain songs and I'm transported right back.
Nostalgia is a strange feeling. When I hear Marmalade's Lovin' Things, I can still feel those ice cubes that Susan Fletcher put down down my neck at PS's birthday party in June 1968. When I hear certain records, I know what I had for my tea that certain week...Family Dogg reminds me of hot buttered toast and lemonade...(strange combination...).

This is so very evocative of the era it was recorded in. Alas they don't make them like this anymore. Thankyou for posting this track so much.

You must be 53 like me. I started work in the summer of 1969. I remember it also; every five minutes on Radio One.
Why wasn't it No 1...?

Ahh, the 60s were great days............especially the "flower-power" era!
You started work on August 11 of that year; I started, I think, on August 4th.

Ah Flower Power...Now you're talking: The Turtles, Scott McKenzie, The Flowerpot Men, The Young Rascals...1967; such a great year.
I have so many memories. And I was only 13 then!

I was just 14!

Where has it all gone? Where have all the flowers gone? I used to walk to school with my Wolves duffel bag sucking an orange Jubbly.
Somebody give me a one-way ticket...I'd go back now...
