I dont think this is cruel at all, the chicken is rocked gently to sleep, what's so wrong about that? For goodness sake poultry owners usually pick chickens up by their legs! That's common practice, and the chickens clearly dont like that. This hen just lay there in his arms and drifted off to sleep

We have 2 dozen free ranges hens ourselves and I'd never actually try this just in case, but the fact that the chap picked up the hen like that, it was pretty comfortable before he started rocking it. And I've owned hens that are so relaxed around humans they'll fall asleep while being carried. But you could well be right. Is there anything you can direct me to that confirms the process you're describing?

Eh, I don't think you made it fall asleep.

I've got chickens of my own, and when you freak them out enough they'll stand in place for a few minutes, too scared to move.

They also need to move their heads when you carry them, or else they get dizzy.

So the chicken wasn't asleep; it was just too scared and dizzy to move.

I would not advise anyone to try this on their own chickens.
