maybe you wanna take a look at the other comments cause i am getting a little bit tired to tell people the difference between backend, frontend and all the differences ;)
Nice video. The new GUI is very similar to the Ubuntu Netbook Remix. I think the difference is that Jolicloud has installed a few extra Jolicloud aps and maybe installed a different set of default apps. For example, the CPU frequency applet that you liked is part of Ubuntu as well but is not installed by default..
Tons more differences than that. Right now its just phase 1 of many to come. The netbook optimizations are leaps and bounds above what even Canonical has done.
The need for a Linux-based OS for netbooks seems to be greatly overestimated. Once netbooks comes with Windows 7 preinstalled (and I assume they already do) there's really no point for the average user to switch to Linux. I'm sure there's some interest in Jolicloud, but not as great as they want you to believe.
Not sure if JoliCloud will really conquer a big market share, once it gets released. Might be a nice option for people that have no computer experience at all. Last looked at an early alpha, will give it another shot myself :)
This is basically just the ubuntu netbook remix...

The idea behind the Linux based OSes is that many see the Future of Netbooks as being a FREE hardware giveaway, with a move toward paid services.

I've never heard about that. So it would be like today's subsidized cell phones? What would those services be, even?
