Hi my luger wont go back together properly.......When i put the magazine back in and try to pull the toggles back the reciver slides forward can anyone help?
@shitheadmachin Thee biggest problem I know of on reassembly at that step is that the s-link is not hooking into the recoil spring lever properly. Check that, and if you still have a problem, post a video and maybe people here can help you figure it out.
I'm looking at P08 Luger and watched your Field Strip video, but I'm concerned about a round in the chamber. Can you flush the cartridge by pulling on the cocking mechanism a couple of times. How about ejecting the magazine first? Then pulling on the cocking mechanism?
Cycling the action a few times does nothing if the extractor is broken or missing. I always visually check it is empty, and then lock the action open. The only way to lock the action open on a P-08 is with the magazine in. If you remove the magazine the action wont stay open. I've known more that a few people who have had accidental discharges (one shot himself) with unloaded guns. If the action is not open, I consider it loaded no matter how many times someone cleared it.
OK. So, with the magazine in, you lock it open by pulling back on the action; then you remove the magazine and slide the barrel out after removing the trigger guard etc. I'll review your video again.
I assume that you can remove a bullet if it is in the chamber/barrel?
just got a luger but the idiot who i got it from sawwed off the barrel to get a firecracker out. He went over to europe and he dug it up, anyways does anyone know how I can fix the barrel or get a knew one?
after i put in the magazine and cock back the toggles the top bar doesn't stay in place, it moves forward. Is there something i need to do to lock it into place so it doesn't move?
About 1 minute into the luger lower detail strip video it discusses the hold open. The button on the magazine pushes the hold up so it can hold the breechblock back.
Some lugers dont have a hold open, and others have removed thiers because a weak hold open spring can cause jams. Another thing is that the button on the magazine is not pushing the hold open up enough. This can be caused bu the button being too samll, not aligning with the holdopen, or if the holdopen filed for a different button.
Two 45ACP lugers were made for testing by the US military. One was destroyed during testing and the other is one of the most expensive collector guns in the world. Several custom gunsmiths hand made several variations of 45ACP lugers but they are verry expensive. Aimco made the stainless lugers from the eighties up till a couple of years ago was working on making a production 45ACP luger when they went out of buisness. Rumor is the development costs of the 4ACP Luger put them out of business.
George Luger developed the Luger in the late 1890s by refining the C-93 Borchardt. The Swiss adopted the Luger in 1900, The German Navy started using the Luger in 1904 and the German Army adopted the Luger in 1908, Hence the designation P-08. This gun was used until it was eventually replaced by the P-38 in WWII. You can get llot of good info on the LugerForum,
Is it the same Dis-assembly and Re-assembly For the Naval Version of the luger, Because its been in my family since it was issued to my great Grampa in WW I so I don't want to mess anything up :P
Make sure that the reciever is all the way back when turning it or it will block the take down lever from turning. Make sure that the takedown lever is pushed all the way in or it will not close. Dont push on the button when pushing the lever in because you can actually break it off. You can get more help on the lugerforum

Just for curiosity, what type luger is that?
Thanks for posting this! I bought an RC 1921 DWM luger last December and this saved me many a broken part! (both body and pistol!)

I believe that it would be the same, but to be quite honest I never took a naval version apart.
