  • sweeeeeeet

  • Them Bones sound nice boi sound like a train coming

  • i think my favorite part is when the mellos come in at the end, omg!!!

  • good arrangement, but way to loud the melody is lost by the whole notes, lets be real!!

  • It kills me how ya'll just sacrifice sounding good to be loud...you can at least hold your notes out full value and sound like a college...sounded like hot shit, but ya'll blowin if that's what you wanna hear

  • Yea they were loud but that was it. No good tone quality. Sounded like loud mess, but loud is all they care about.....clearly!

  • SU does the same shit

  • yeah but we're clean with it

  • dont compare this to SU...thats cats and dogs..this sound worst than the most terrible clip of SU you can find

  • it could have been a little

    cleaner but it wasnt complete

    trash.

  • thats da prep band, clown!!

  • I think this is the pep band that performed at the "marching sport battle of the bands". It is the smaller version of the band. I was glad to see them show up - I thought they sounded much better than the tape has them sounding.

  • yes this is our pep band.

  • i don't get it,do you

  • agreed with the last comment...

  • poor

  • they talk so much like tsu is da shit but its nothin special. they not bad but just average.

  • t kan beterrrrrrr............

  • Sorry, but this is really bad.

I LOVE the song though! one of my all time faves.

  • they sound gud 2 me

  • Very nice perfomance! I am impressed!

  • this is the pep band

  • Is this freshmen or the band.

  • TxSU dont get that many freshman so this has to be their band

  • MAY BE TRUE BUT THEY STILL BIG

  • are they playing the same song? This is a big mess sorry it is.

  • This is Straight But Carver Sound a thousand times better and dats a high school

  • its actually not that bad the begining jus sound bad

  • Where is everyone man

  • This sounds a fuckin wreck...

  • is dat their pep band or just their freshmans

  • They did very well. I listen to this song in a million version and they got the Rhythm and sound that is most important . It is just a band what do you guys expect. Hollywood make believe world, man !!!! You need to show some love for them. PEACE.

  • i love you liberian girl !!!...........all the timeeeeee

  • liberiaan girrllll you are more precious than any pearl

  • DSU definitly has the better version....

  • To all dumb azz's this was a pep band that performed.

  • damn they done gotten small...it seems not to many bands are going for awesome size anymore

  • i was at this botb back in april and it sounded alot cleaner in person then it does on here. keep it up ocean

  • I'm not saying what they're doing is wrong or isn't music, just that there are better ways of doing it. I play using an alto horn mouthpiece but my instructor had the shank receiver of his mellophone changed to take trombone mouthpieces and his tone is so rich and dark he sounds like he's playing a baritone horn pitch in F. So I'm not saying my way is the best, however there are much better ways to play the mellophone then Southern's way.

  • 5).None of you can sit here and say what's and what's not music.Music is what ever you want it to be.Weither it's you banging on trash cans or you playing blowin out of a straw or whatever.

There's alot of musicians on here, but real music is about what ever sounds good to you.

I'm sick all these stupid comments about blah blah ablah balh blah just because you got a degree in music education or played for the beatles or whatever don't give you the right to decide what is real music.

  • I agree with you "word for Word" about time i hear somebody tell the truth !!!!!

  • 4)All this talk about balance and such.

HIP HIP Songs have various ways of balance.

sometimes the higs are meant to cover the lows or vice-versa.

  • Hmmmm!!

    Alot of ignorant comments.

1)I repect all things regarding music.

But you can't cahnge the style and use the same rules

2)NO One can sit here and say that a mellophone is suppose to sound like this or that.

It's suppose to sound how ever the person id munipulating to sound.

3)The song is orginally a balld, but thir arrangement and sytle of it is to play with power.

  • Oh my goodness...there is no balance what so ever in this entire song. NONE! It was just loud as all heck! You have to wonder what concepts the band has been taught if any at all. "Just play loud!" I guess it would be ok for an upbeat tempo, but for a ballad...come on. Hey, if the band wants props for being loud, they got it. For tone, balance, and overall interpretation of how a ballad should be played...this was terrible.

  • I like the arrangement, if they clean it up it would be a song to beast on. But still in my opinion, they did a good job.

  • GO BACK AND READ THE FIRST COMMENT BY StrausseyWolf ON THIS VIDEO ITS HILARIOUS!

  • Man where is the TSU Kim Possible. It's on myspace.com.

  • (Overall review of Southern) While show bands aren't expected to play in a symphonic manner that doesn't mean you throw away all concepts of balance and tone. Southern seems depended on the upper brass to wow the croud with vol. and high tones which covers thier woodwind section. Why bother having woodwinds if you can't hear them play unless the entire upper brass section stops playing? If Southern wants to wow people, have the woodwinds play loud enough so we can hear them 24/7.

  • You do know that this is Texas Southern right, not Southern University.

  • who said it was Southern University

  • some nut in an earlier comment

  • damn u's an hatter go on child and play with Micheal Jackson. since you r worry bout it :) :D

  • Is this Liberian Girl by Micheal Jackson? I dont think so imma say it if nobody else do this is terrible OMG! they killed my favorite song i wanna cry i hope Micheal Jackson never hears this, this is just a travisty against MJ who ever arranged this i hope they aint gettin paid!

  • it is an arrangement.. an interpretation of sorts and if your opinion was important i still dont think anyone would care... what you can do is go write a better arr. then get a job as a band director (ur obviously not one with that piss poor appreciation for a group of students playing what they like)....

  • ok that good but TXSU mellophones are straight

  • Charlie Broun yo ass don't like shit. Dude, what do you like?

  • who said GOOD TONE????

  • this dude must not know what mellophones can do,

come on now think mellophones also scream too and has the potential to do it almost like the trumpet but trumpet goes way higher!! besides TXSU has some of the best meelophone player from miles get it together

  • I am fully aware as to what a mellophone can do (Been a jazz mellophone player for years). The mellophone CAN and SHOULD sound far more mellow and sweet then how the mellophone players are playing in this song. They seem to be trying to play the mellophone like an overgrown trumpet and sound like a gang of bullhorns for their troubles. If you want to hear true mellophone playing then pick up "Mellophone" on vinyl by Don Elliot and listen to a master of the mellophone do his thing.

  • to be a true mellophone player you gotta do all of your concert stuff on horn, mellophone is a marching instrument, so by you tellin me you in a jazz band and you play mellophone, i know for a fact your playing a trumpet part and you aint good at horn

  • I guess you never heard of bands like High Brass who write and play mellophone parts just for the mellophone. The mellophone is becoming a very common addition to jazz brass bands and is devoloping it's own voice in the jazz world. BTW The mellophone is it's own insturment and in no way is related to the horn so to compare the two is baseless point.

  • well its not that they are doing it to be bad musicians, its just the style that they play..i mean it is a lil nasty sounding as far as intonation, but if you look at most hbcu bands the mello's and in some cases horns, take it up just to keep with the whole "beasting" feel...outside of that most players are quite musical.

  • The song is great, that is until the mellophone start to butcher the song. Whatever happened to intonation and tone quality being favored over just hitting high notes and blasting? The mellophone is an ALTO instrument, which goal is to fill the upper middle register of the grand scale for brass not to "scream" well above the alto range. If you want to blast high notes and take the spotlight simply play trumpet.

  • Very nice and great tone

TXSU still the best with a few in the band

they can have 30 ppl in the band and sound like

    PVAMU on the other side

  • I really don't like this....

  • how don't u like this u stupid as hell u must be fucked in the head

  • i love this arrangment of liberian girl. i arr. this for the hs i work at i hope it turns out ok for asimplified arrangment

  • ffiihhaaaayyyy

  • Dead sexy tubas!

    Thank you for posting this.

  • Pretty good job TSU; to me it needs to be a little faster but the song is on the money

  • Kingsax and MemphisE, thanks for the resoned response. I didnt come up in showband style but I do enjoy it when it when it sounds good. Some bands cant do both-play well and dance. Just as bad as a meager talent high school band trying to do corps style. To me, there is nothing worse than seeing a 30 piece school band trying to do Blue Devils. That director should be shot. If you can play up an octive without cracking, and play loud without "honking" play on.....I love it.

ck out my vids also. thanks

  • no prob, lmao @ wat u said about 30 peice bands doing da Blue Devils. my old high school district had only 2 showbands, da rest were corps. only 3 of em were good, da others were tryna do 2 much n dere marching n sound wasnt on point. LMAO, some of em had metronomes n sheet music.

  • by da way, i just LOVE dat Blue Devils warm up where dey play da spaceship sounds from Close Encounters of the Third Kind. lol, it gives me chills

  • you're going to love my next 2 videos. velvet knights doing motown and blue devils / buddy rich.

  • DCI bands are more about percision and the basic fundamentals of marching while producing a top quality sound. Showbands do the same thing but "SHOW"bands appeal to da audience more by dancing, chanting, and featuring sections of the band by "putting more emphasis on da song after da tuba break" not blowing, emphasis. People taking things up an octave show we have range that isnt out of control n playing loud just shows that we CAN b muscial with volume.

  • Like I said it's your opinion. And most of the time it's where you come from that forms your opinion. Goodday. Blessin's

  • To dpizza and to naturalbornscreamer. I'm not about to knock anybody. dpizza that's your opinion about most black bands and in a way I feel you. I'm guessin' that you haven't been brought up on our style at all. You have your style and then there's anotha style like ours; it's different. I wouldn't curse you out or anything mane(lol) but I didn't like tha fact that you called it honkin'. Come on na??? You didn't have to do that mane(lol). It's cool though

  • dpizza these "black bands" do teach technique but the style (which is High stepping) calls for excessive blowing and cleaness....and FAMU's band has lots of technique! Can those "white bands" pull off Flight of the Bumblebee like FAMU? Hell naw..... not with that powers, cleanliness, and technique.. haha.. keep on lookin cuz there is more. Get your facts str8 before you try to criticize every black band in the nation! Ignorant Ass...don't know shit!

  • famu's bumble was quite good. but they werent jumping around or crawling on the field trying to play. "excessive blowing and cleaness...." doesn't belong in the same sentence. btw,it s not white vs black. it s about being musical. ck out norfolk state. Your last sentence of the comment leads me to think maybe you are not interested in a discussion anyway. I wont call you names.

  • OK THIS SHIT IS WAK WHO TOLD THEM THAT THIS SHIT SOUND GOOD LOL

  • In certain places of the song, that really sucks but I can say ya'll have the abilty to actually blow and almost sound good. Work on it

  • I would like to re-confirm for everyone that this is Texas Southern University and NOT Tennessee State University.

  • I've never heard a band play that song, it ain't bad. Nah I see why all yall band heads love it!

  • dont they teach any technique at these black schools? I havent seen a band yet in the last couple of years that dont doing anything but honk. norfolk state is the exception sometimes.

  • SHUT YO WAC A$$ UP SUCK A DICK U FAG!!!!!!!!
