i knew a labrador dog that though he was a tiny lapdog sized dog and he would try and sit on your lap, sadly ha was a slightly overweigh labrador that drooled allot.
We had a Merle puppy born yesterday. We will be getting here mid April I think. I have been waiting until (we now live on three acres).. to get a BIG doggie.. although it seems they don't know how big they are ;)
My Plott hound does this. That's what I get for babying him as a pup... I don't think he realizes he's gotten a little bigger since he was 10 pounds ;)
*ALL* Great Danes think they are lap dogs! I can bet that every owner who reads this will agree with me! hahaha I've had two, and one even jumped into my bed with me a couple times. Thankfully she missed me and landed directly between me and the wall.
My friends great dane (in my pic here on the fire truck) is 6.5 months old, and he's 110lbs!! He's a blue great dane and he uses me as a 'human chair' LOL! Danes are notorious for wanting to sit on you, lean, or lie on top of you ~ gentle giants they are ;)
My daughter has a Great Dane and he's 1-1/2 year old. He's blue and he always walks up to me and sits right down on my lap! Its the craziest thing. They do not know how big they are and they really are gentle giants. Best dogs in the world!
@ILuvRayW They are great dogs but I can not urge enough the importance of doing research on the breed. Not to mention training. These dogs can get huge, around 200 pounds for males, it takes a lot of training.
One more thing, these dogs may be incredibly gentle but they are strong as hell.
Sadie is now 130 pounds and the other morning she ripped the screened in porches door off the the hinges trying to to play with my other dog.
@PsychoSymantic They can get bigger than 200 lbs. Gentle Giants rescue has some Danes that are 250lbs and up. Those are some of the bigger boned Danes.
@rawmark Sorry but telling me to go ask someone how big his Danes get is nothing more then hearsay as well. When every vet I've spoken to, every website I've visited all say the same thing. I will listen to them over some anonymous person on the internet.
@PsychoSymantic Also, there is a difference between the "largest" and the "heaviest." I know about the largest dog but that didn't make him the heaviest. There are heavier dogs but none on record that are larger.
@rawmark Ever wonder why the Guinness book never lists the "heaviest" dog? Because a dog who is over weight would be heavier then a dog who's healthy. In other words weight fluctuates. It rarely if ever remains constant, this is why they add many different factors together, and why I used the word largest.
@PsychoSymantic Dogs 101 even says that Great Danes can be anywhere from 120 pounds to 200 lbs. Just look up dogs 101 great dane. They are heavy dogs. Same thing with Great Pyrenees. They can be very heavy dogs.
@PsychoSymantic I think you misunderstood. I said that Gentle Giants Rescue, run by Burt and Tracy Ward, have some Great Danes that are 250lbs. None of their dogs are overweight though because they learn how to self-regulate the amount of food they eat since they are fed 5x's a day. Burt and Tracy created their own line of dog food called Gentle Giants that is good for all dogs.
@PsychoSymantic Ur so right....research ANY breed before committing. BoBo is1-1/2 yrs old & has been a joy & we all LOVE him to death and yes they are gentle but he definitely does not know his own strength. Their size/weight alone is something that must be considered. We love our BoBo though. He is just over 110 lbs. On hind legs he stands over 6' 3" tall w/o stretching. Just some things to consider. I am not trying to discourage u from choosing a Great Dane. They are an awesome breed!
@ILuvRayW All dogs are lovable. If you take good care of them, they will love you for life. Humans will break your heart if they get the chance. Their love is at will.
It looks like it's been docked...likely because she ran into a bit of "happy tail". Danes have a tendency of wacking the ends of their tails off walls and splitting them open. Usually infection/gangrene sets in and they have to have partial tail amputations.
Danes are lap dogs :P They are dubbed "the gentle giants". Great Danes love to rest on people <333
