Windows 7 is fast! Went from Home Premium to Ultimate! Experience Index 3.6 with HP G60-243CL (Costco/Sam's Club Model) Notebook. It was 3.5 with Windows Vista Home Premium its original OS.
Before I updated my score. I had a virtual machine running Windows 7 Home Premium and when I first ran the rating assessment, it got 3.8 base score and I was like WTF? The VM pwned my host rating by 0.2 points. Thats what got me a 3.8 on my host PC when i ran the assessment. I take care of my PC too much. lol
@wango911 that's great. It sucks that Windows Virtual PC has no support for Aero OS's like Windows Vista Home Premium up to Ultimate and the same with 7 home premium up to Ultimate.
But though it should be possible if you run the assesment inside the Virtual PC. SHould enable Aero I guess, but just keep in mind Aero will be slow if you have set the RAM below 1 gig...I have tried it, it was slow though, but it worked for me LOL
But it still sucks that Vmware and other such programs does not enable Aero. For exmaple you want to install Windows 7 Home Premium, which has Aero, but you'll notice that Aero is not enabled. So maybe Vmware can let you enable aero.
VMware does support Aero . You just need to install the drivers that come with the program and spare 1gb of ram and your good. I use Workstation 7 cause i can do more with it. If you want to give it a try, go to the VMware website and get VMware Player for a start because it's free and Workstation 7 is not, you just need to make an account so you can download it and other programs on the site.
I have tried VMware Workstation before, but was nothing really to me. I installed VMware player again cause it's nice. Though I have VMware Player now. And yea, it's kinda annoying when people have to register just to download one free program or app o.O

dude. do you know ANYTHING about computers? you NEED an antivirus for ANY windows based operating system that connects to the internet. not just win 7. there are plenty of free solutions out there. granted, on ubuntu you can get away with not using antivirus because it's a linux distro. but i'd even recommend antivirus for OS X
OS X is also the second most popular operating system available, therefore the second most targeted. so i think you'll find it IS safer to use security software with it, just to be safe. windows needs security software the most NOT because of how shite it is, but because it's the most popular and widely used operating system, meaning it's the most targetted and the most at risk. and free antivirus does NOT suck. in fact, some of the free solutions are better than a lot of the paid ones.

@sickspastic there is a great AV for windows that windows created its verry affective free and works great its like 2 mb too ;) + realtime guard so why care i dont see much slowdowns if i use my AV i use avira prenium security suite 9 its the best :D and it havent let me down
3.5 GB, but since 64-bit uses extra RAM (at least on Vista) and is less compatible with my programs, less stable with overclocking (therefore the performance is nearly exact on par with 32-bit) and when you round all this up the marginal benefits are negligible and 32-bit is the way to go for the next few years at least.
most 32-bit software runs fine on x64, and for those that don't, there's usually a 64-bit download. the system uses more ram, yes, but 64bit win 7 uses less than vista 64. also, if you run games etc, that ram is freed for the games, therefore, the games can run up to 4gb of your run. otherwise, you've wasted money for 4gb of ram when you can only use 3.5. that's 500mb going to waste.
Some drivers don't have 64-bit versions. The 4 GB G-Skill Pi Black series DDR2 800mhz RAM was a gift from my uncle since he didn't need it and I suppose I could always use 64-bit.
But the performance improvement is marginal and since my CPU probably isn't stable at 4 ghz on 64-bit the performance is roughly the same. I have not even fully utilized my 3.5 GB available yet... but I suppose I could always set up a dual-boot of 32 and 64 bit once I get a larger hard drive.

It is available at Microsoft's website. SO you can download it manually from there.
Windows Movie Maker is included in Vista and XP.
Windows Live Movie Maker is in the Essentials of Windows Live.
go to google.com, type in ''Windows Live Essentials''
And download it, go through the installer, and pick the programs you want to install. And of course they are optional to download. Nothing important.

you should go 64-bit because of your 4GB of ram, in 32-bit you will only be able to use around 3GBytes of your RAM

3.5 GB, but since 64-bit uses extra RAM (at least on Vista) and is less compatible with my programs, less stable with overclocking (therefore the performance is nearly exact on par with 32-bit) and when you round all this up the marginal benefits are negligible and 32-bit is the way to go for the next few years at least.

most 32-bit software runs fine on x64, and for those that don't, there's usually a 64-bit download. the system uses more ram, yes, but 64bit win 7 uses less than vista 64. also, if you run games etc, that ram is freed for the games, therefore, the games can run up to 4gb of your run. otherwise, you've wasted money for 4gb of ram when you can only use 3.5. that's 500mb going to waste.

Some drivers don't have 64-bit versions. The 4 GB G-Skill Pi Black series DDR2 800mhz RAM was a gift from my uncle since he didn't need it and I suppose I could always use 64-bit.
But the performance improvement is marginal and since my CPU probably isn't stable at 4 ghz on 64-bit the performance is roughly the same. I have not even fully utilized my 3.5 GB available yet... but I suppose I could always set up a dual-boot of 32 and 64 bit once I get a larger hard drive.

wow vista was a osx ripoff. and now windows 7 is a linux KDE 4.3 ripoff. they have the same widgets, the same sticky notes, the same look. fuck you microsoft do something innovative and something your own for once. i tried windows 7 and it sucks. i will always use linux ... noway going back to that shit again.
