@martynhenrystyles I think that it does actually have traction control - if you go to 1:20, as he exits what I think is Brooklands you can hear it a bit - you can also hear it a little out of Abbey and out of Luffield. Either Alonso is very careful with the throttle, or the TC is set very low.
Great to see some on board footage of Alonso in Minardi colours, always seems tough to find any race footage of him from 2001. Cheers for posting scarsurfing :)))
Obviously he did the right decision to go for Renault testdriver in 2002. If he wouldn't have done that, he would be probably driving Toro Rosso today.
flavio was the one who got him the drive with miniardi to get some racing exprience. flavio knew alonso was special thats why he managed him from very early in his career.
well piquet was a big talent in lower racing series. he was seen a a future star in f1. he finsihed 2nd to hamilon in 2006 gp2 . but when he got to f1 thats when he lost it all..
yes, and lucky for him that Briatore dumped Jenson Button in Renault for 2003 for him, because Briatore believed Button wasn't championship material...
wonder who is laughing now with Jenson Button the 2009 champion?
madre mia ke coche mas nervioso, y mas en esa epoca en la ke no abia restricciones aerodinamicas y se usaban todo tipo de sistemas estabilizadores y de traccion...
19 years old alonso outpaced his team mate tarso marques in qualy in all 01 gps except in malaysia...and he used to beat him by a margin of 1.5-2 secs...he did some brilliant races with minardi, for me the best was suzuka 01 finishing 10th of cars ahead of frentzen and panis including overtakings to both...alonso hadnt any sponsors or friendships in f1, he earned his place with hard work proving himself to everyone until he reached the top, thats why i admire him so much
sorry, i tried to say that in suzuka 01 he finished 10th of 17 cars that finished the race...one of the best results minardi had ever...webber 6th in 2002 was great too but it was a little more lucky, it was race with a lot of dnfs
I miss minardi, there is no team like them well toro rosso try but minardi brought drivers unknown like fisichella, alonso, trulli etc and they get no credit!
MclarenMercedes - I disagree, Minardi was unreliable, but , from a field of 22, he finished with a high of 10 and low of 17, finishing 9/17 races- in a minardi!!! He outquallied both Benettons 2 times I think and in Australia 2001, outquallified Tarso Marques, Teammate, by 2.6seconds.
your right. also, he set the 14th fastest lap (out of a field of 22) at suzuka - faster than the likes of frentzen who was in a sauber. all that for a guy who was like 19/20 years old in a shit car. i thought he did a good job
THE GUY KNOWS HOW TO MAKE MIRACLES

Alonso owned at Suzuka 2001. Beat one of the Bennettons, Prost, Arrows, and his teammate. As Paul Stoddart said "53 laps of qualifying"

A mi megustava ese minardi esteticamente :D. Eso si, era una autentica patraña en la pista.
Que recuerdos de cuando Alonso aún era un chavalillo en este mundo...

With Senna in the Toleman it was never any doubt.
Just remember Alonso didn't drive at all in 2002 and was put on hold by Briatore.

Iii'm pretty confident Hamilton will beat Alonso this year. In every season Lewis has ever been in, he's beaten Alonso. Why won't he do it now?
TobHussey 2 years ago
I'm not saying that Hamilton is a bad driver. You're right, in every season, Hamilton has beaten Alonso. He can do it.
