  • i i like

  • the song was actually written by Tracy ullman later covered by Kirsty MacColl they both happened to good friends :-)

  • @Adrian68ification You've got it the wrong way round.

  • I was 13 when this was out, I remember it like it was yesterday, The 80's were agreat decade to grow up in.

  • I wonder how many other 12-year-old American guys had the BIGGEST crush on this British hottie when this song came out... <3 xoxo

  • The prettiest and saddest tune.

  • love this song... I was 5 when it was out.. I knew all the words back then and I still know the words now! It was on NOW 1, or was it 2? Not sure without going to check my pile of RECORDS! But I made my mum put this song amongst many others onto a tape for me for my walkman!!

  • My favourite song from 1983 (when I was 15). Give me goose bumps every time. Enough said...

  • When i listen to stuff like this it makes me yearn for my youth again .. i can almost feel the child in me again ( as i was the first time i heard this ) .. the 80's were the best years of my life !

  • @davieboy1971 I love it as well brings back memories eh lol back in the day! and tracy ullman done brill in the states!

  • @davieboy1971 i was 18 when this came out i was in blackpool for a weeks holiday there was about 10 of us from grimsby so it was east to west horizontal and i met this girl she wasd 17 and gorgeous oh sorry i am getting nostalgia, the 80s beautifull.

  • @davieboy1971 you said it man. agree with you 10000%

  • @davieboy1971 i feel exsactly the same mate

  • Bloody right mate me hands to cold to play a cord. I was a teen in the 60s so when this ditty came about I was allready getting misty about me youth during the British invasion love. Seems like yesterday all me troubles were so fart away.

  • @Beatlejoose56 It would seem we're two sides of the same 'Tracy Ullman' coin. Better that than lady Ga Ga, I suppose, lol. I can appreciate the Beatles and a lot of other '60s stuff, but the modern era leaves me cold. In particular 'Rap' which is shite.

  • Makes me feel sad and happy at the same time as I can't believe how many years have passed, and how quickly, too. Tracy looks bloody hot, though :)

  • @HighgateSamphire I feel the same way mate...those years pass quickly eh..

  • @henry707 Indeed, at least those days were a bit of fun, these days we've got to ask if we can smile. I suppose it's good to have the memories though. Christ, I'm getting misty-eyed now lol

  • ow.. dig that dress.. that hair... what a riot!! Throw-back to the 60's.... This is just such a great slab of power pop.. faB-TASTIC Melody....

  • Tracy would get it. And Kudos for a great choon too. what savage music there was in the eighties. Such shite today.

  • close second to alison moyet but wow

  • Hair glitter and a dress held together by keyrings. What more could you ask for?

  • sexy little minx!

  • sexy little minx!

  • hi mary

  • Great to hear this again. I agree, music was the real deal back in the 80's and earlier.

  • body and hair glitter was all the rave back then, good times and lots of fun

  • shes one very talented lady dont see much of her now on tv !

  • 8 people THINK they know about us. fucking wankers.

  • @GinoHeartbreak

    I agree with you

    Tracey Ullman rules !

  • Shiny shoulders... that's all a boy could ask for . . shiny shoulders. She had them therefore I crave her....

  • @siouxboy74 agreed! this is the definition of GOOD pop!

  • She sure was cute and sexy then!

  • @wb5oxq 100% agreed - she's got that sumpin sumpin goin on!

  • My theory:

No Kirsty,no song catalog for Tracey Ullman.

No Pop hits for Tracey, her TV show never would have existed.

No TV show, no crude early Simpsons vignettes between her live sketches.

So then no 20+ years of Homer and family.

No MEGABUCKS for Rupert Murdoch and no Fox empire.

And no Astra and Sky TV network.

    And no newspaper scandal.

  • @bradthompsonuk2011 interesting how you put all that together

  • She's being subtlely satirical with her outfits, gestures, and backup singers, but the delivery of the song would make Kirsty MacColl proud.

  • Great that plenty of folk remember and honour the late great Kirsty MacColl. A great poet, a great vocalist and distinctive artist. Tracey's version of this little pop gem, keeps her spirit alive. Check out Tracey's album 'You broke my heart in 17 places' - filled with retro classics like this one.

  • if it wasnt for the tracey ullman show, the simpsons wouldnt have been known

  • Nice pop song written by Kirsty McColl---Her version failed to chart in the UK. The girls are cute... ...and the legs...

  • She's such a born entertainer.

  • RIP Kirst - LEGEND!!!

  • ...B.T.W seven fat slags must have watched this video.

  • The song that connects my two favourite eighties women. Thanks for the upload. RIP Kirsty, the sweetest voice in the chorus of angels.

  • This song could be applied to me and my daughter, who I've been separated from, nobody knows the close bond that we have.

  • BAYYYYYYYYYYYYBEEEEEE, JUST BOUGHT HER GREATEST HITS CD,

    THE 1980`S ROCK

  • OMG, she looks excatly like Sondra Prill in this video. If you don't know Sondra Prill look her up. She was a local idiot in Tampa, an absolute train wreck!

  • It must have been so fun for her to add "pop star" to her resume. I love this song--how can you not?

  • Giddy up, those get-ups make me wanna get down!

  • Tracy Ullman was great taking a sound and look from the girl groups of the 1960s!

I love her 1980s They Don't Know and Breakaway videos! Cindi Lauper was great too at reviving the girl group sound and making it contemporary! One Fine Day written by Carol King and sung by the Chiffon's comes to mind! Check it out!

  • it was one of my favorite songs! fantastic melody! brings back wonderful memories! loved the video!

  • absolutely love this song, you can't beat the 80s for music.

  • Great video. Tracey is a beatigul singer. The best of 80's

  • I LOVE TRACY ULLMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great song - nice tune in a minor key which gives it a slighlty melacholic feel.

Plus Tracy Ullman is bloody gorgeous!

  • WONDERFUL UPDATING OF THE LESLEY GORE STYLE OF MUSIC TRACY DELIVERS BEAUTIFULLY

  • I like this song because it reminds me of a certin phil spector "Girl Group"

  • I adore this song!!

  • I'd just turned 16 when this came out and I loved it to bits! Still do and I wish I had her skinny body, I'm 43 now, sigh...

  • @Feisty1967 HEY!...One of my close friends is a 43 yr old male who introduced me to this wonderful song and he still has his thin body, don't buy into the aging bs! :)

  • nice short skirts

  • I wished that Tracey Ullman would sing more because she has an incredibly amazing voice, but I guess choosing an influential Comedy career is her true calling. Tracey once said in a interview that she quit her music career because it wasn't her thing and plus her record label didn't pay her any proper royalties. These days the music industry is full of Music Executives robbing a person's talent for their own selfishness :(

  • That song still sends shivers up my spine!!

  • @Feisty1967 yea it does me aswell, and the original version by Kirsty

  • Excellent!

Thank you for sharing this title souvenirs!

    Regards

  • nice song thnx poster

  • Thanks for the Quality Upgrade!!!! :-) Tracey is/was the best, so lovely. :-)

  • Kirsty come home....

  • The "B-A-B-Y" she sings at 1:44 was in fact Kirsty Maccoll was sang backing in this studio version of the song. Kirsty of course wrote the song and released it as a single before Tracey.

  • TOTP brilliant programme. The times of jackie and Just seventeen magazines as well. I got all them, watched TOTP Those times were so carefree apart from Maggie Thatcher putting my parents on the dole.

    freebird

  • whereever you go now I want to be there

  • I love this song! It brings back great memories of when I was 16, just turned!

  • The good old days..

  • i wonder whats happened to the blonde backing singer? i bet shes still a fit woman.

  • 1:47, when she's swaying around, is kinda hot.

  • tracey ullman wasa nice bit of crumpet ..love this song

  • Makes me think of like 80's prom/homecoming! =) Oh man where's my flux-compasitor when you need one!

  • This one is defo for all the blokes out there!

Time to be men again! ...Women love that shit.

  • I love this birds voice ??

The video is quite cool aswell, Paul McCartney drivin the Capri ...funny : )

  • @HitchHikersBlues drivin a capri??? it was a reliant robin just like dellboy.

  • @scotsmaninusa : You could be right, yeah!

  • It took me awhile to appreciate this song, but it's a great pop song that gives respect equally to New Wave and 60s Girl Groups.

  • wow

  • it's a bit of a rip off of 'knowing me knowing you' but good tosh nonetheless.

  • I love novelty songs. This is a perfect little pop confection, and Tracey Ullman is a real talent.

  • brills! what number on the chart was she here?

  • @almamatters2471 This song reached #2 in the U.K.; #8 in the U.S. in 1983.

  • Pure talent!

  • Comment removed

  • Errrrrmmmmmmmmmm what ever happened to Tracey Ullman ???

  • @SteveCaftdunt She became a famous tv-/moviestar... Look it up. No joke.

  • When I hear this song I think of her great "Tracey Takes On" tv show on HBO and all her wacky characters singing parts of it to open/close the show, it always ended with that

"Bay-bee" at the beginning of the closing credits and you got to see who would be on next week.

  • She was sooooo hot

  • B-ay-by!

  • tracy, fantastic voice and music, thanks from brazil

  • Make sure you check out the original video - fits the song so well...

  • Heard it over the 80s satellite radio and the song sounds familiar... so youtube it. The music is amazing... read about Kristy, so sad... and Tracy Ullman sure perfect the song. Hats off to Kristy, the music is beautiful. Cheers to Tracy, she pulled me back in time... the wonderful life time. I also saw the original music video, she is hilarious... amazing funny woman.

  • I remember seeing her on the Tonight Show and thinking "is she for real? Is this camp? what?" And the reality, or non-reality, of Johnny Carson...it was definitely a changing of the guard.

  • I think it's amazing how the backup singers are clear as a bell with their backs to the microphones.

  • Tracey certainly was gorgeous in those days! But what about those sexy backing singers? One of my favourite songs from that era, thanks Kirsty MacColl for writing it. (her version, of course, is better).

  • nice body back in the day tracy!

  • @alienhuman dont wait to long she most be in her late 50s early 60s by now

  • The last 27 years have just melted away and taken me back to my teenage crush

  • great song!

  • Backup singers totally phoned their performance in. Tracey llooks great though,

  • @BGElks the blonde is awesome! ive been waiting 27 yrs for her to knock on my door!!!!

  • just realised after 20 years that she was hot.

remember her in 3 of a kind.

  • @nahim55 you rmber that??? i loved that! the guys eating the fag ends coz they were too busy watching the pub tele!!!!

  • Absolutely brilliant !

  • So very 1960s

  • shows how bad music is these days when you hear classics like this...80's the best by far...glad i grew up in that decade.....

  • and she is pritty

  • this was on ases to ashes on friday

  • A absolute gem of a track - Had this on in the car coming home tonight - window down and blasting! Fabulous - Bring back the 80's :)

  • Thank you Tracey Ullman for bringing Kirsty MacColl to my attention aged twelve. What a world of music I discovered. Proper music. Cheers.

  • Thank you Tracey Ullman for bringing Kirsty MacColl to my notice when I was 12.

  • She's got really nice legs as well as a nice voice.

  • @dexter and pokie you guys are worth your share hey what about this for oopsie

  • @oopsiegurlz 0420 you killed them tonight haha the guy in front o d on tar not shit about this maybe if we SPEED IT UP or punk it out shes hot yes

  • I like the old-fashioned doo-wah girls in this clip. The blonde is kind of phoning it, but the brunette is working it right.

  • Ah, I was but 18 when this went to #8 on the US charts...absolutely brilliant and perfect. Musically we've sucked into utter suckdom compared to this now. Perfection.

  • @falldownhard Agree with you, today's music is shit! Even the novelty stuff like thsi vid is better than what's on offer now. All we get now is wannabees and rappers, no thanks.

  • @falldownhard You said it !!

  • Don't fall for it, Janice.

  • wheres the original vid of her singing in the grocery store! Grr i cannot find it

  • RIP Kristy MacColl

Tracy Ullman is a great and beautiful talent.

Miss the 80's, a wonderful decade in music.

  • @Francozilla : Indeed !

  • @Francozilla Kristy is the blonde back-up singer, right? Anyway, Tracey is so talented as a straight up actor (loved her in Small Time Crooks). Hilarious comedianne, and on top of that she had this huge hit song. AND she got Paul McCartney in the music video!

  • @Francozilla: Wonderful music AND fashion. Oh yeah! I'll definitely miss those days.

  • @Francozilla ehhh. probably the worst. there are some gems from the 80s, but even this song is produced so horribly that most people now wouldn't listen cause it sounds so dated. everything thats wrong with 80s music is what music just is today.

  • @matt47forTED i agree the 90's where the best decade for music

  • tracey is great and actually i heard this tune on satelite and thought it was the bangles. i'm glad to see that it is indeed tracey because she is perfect! even in this vid shoot she doesn't try to overpower the camera or the stage. much success love!

  • The 80s really ruled in terms of feel good music.

  • Janice if ever you happen to read these comments do you remember this was our song? Sorry i was such a shit....

  • Funny, multitalented, and cuter than people realize. Tracey is the bomb.

  • why,do u no her or something?

  • wow - she shows a lot of skin in that outfit!

  • The original version of this song is good, too. Kirsty MacColl did it, and apparently it was her voice and not Tracey's that sang the "BAYBEE!" But they both did the song nicely, and Tracey's version was a big hit in the States.

  • Nope she was born 30 December 1959. So 23 years old at the time of this video.

  • TRACEY WAS SUCH A DOLL,,,<<,YUMYUM

  • still is pal.

  • I agree

  • Comment removed

  • wow! the memories come flooding back. was this the video with paul mcartney in?

  • I love it very much, especially how those two girls of back-chorus dance.

    It's pretty 80's style!

  • Comment removed

  • does the song really matter, just look at her

  • Fantastic!!

I always thought she was funny as well.

Was this song played in the states?

  • Yes..the song was played in the states and, if I am not mistaken was... in the top 10 ... if not #1...for sure! Excellent song...

  • Yes, it peaked at #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the spring of 1984. She didn't hit the Top 40 again here, though.

  • fabulous, love tracey, great memories

  • Tracey was sweet and cute. I hate the singers now they are vulgar-sexy, not cute-sexy. Class went out the window in the late 90s!!!

  • Tracey Ullman is still hot.

  • This cover grew on me. Its a damn good 80s meets 60s pop tune. Kirsty's original will always be better. But I love Tracy Ullman no matter what she is singing or acting (or both).

  • SHes funny too! BTW was this a tv show or something? When was it on and what network

  • it was a show like american band stand i think it was a british program

  • the show was called top of the pops. yes it is a british program

  • man i thought see was so cool and hot but then again i was a teenager lol you rock tracey

  • There dresses look like there made out of old shower curtains with the hooks left on..LOL. Great Memories and a great 80s tune..Thanks for posting

  • Love this song!! But they must be lip-synching...sounds EXACTLY like album version...no matter, love the song, no matter in what form...just an observation, is all. Thanx for the post!! :))

  • rudeger... Correct, this is lip-synced. Traci could not hit the high note in "baby," and on the album version, you are hearing Kirsty Maccoll's voice. (She was also the orginal singer of this song; Traci Ullman's version is a cover.)

  • "Memories memories!"

    Ditto! Thanks for posting this.

  • go tracey ! memories memories !

  • I thought it was cool the way she impersonated Celine Dion in New Orleans on her Showtime special.

  • this was 'our' song when i was having an affair- she was great, I was a shit

  • You worry too much

All you need to do is remove gordon brown and elect an honest man.

Remember the "uk debts" are actually HIS personal debts

Pull out of the EU and trade with the commonwealth.

    We still love ya

  • BABY

  • those backup girls are a hot mess.

  • Okay, who remembers when she did this song on her SHOW, and she was an "Exotic Dancer" and the guy she was singing about and TO was this old codger inna wheelchair? The backup singers in the SKIT were "Exotic Dancers" as well, and they were backstage of a sleaze club...I remember him fanning money, and Tracy was a buxom blonde...it was freaking hilarious, tho I am unable to find this clip...contact me if you can verify that I'm not crazy, or know where it can be found! Thanks In Advance!

  • Vaguely. I think it was on one of either of two sketch shows she appeared on - A Kick Up The 80's or 3 of A Kind.

Most likely 3 of a Kind, 'cos I remember she was adding more singing numbers into the show to act as a launchpad for her singing career.

  • Um, this was HER show, tho they could have dragged it out of the archives, it -was- on FOX, for when I saw it, we didn't have cable, and only three channels were avail, ABC, CBS and FOX, and it was near the end of the show if I recall, just before she came out and barked at the audience to go home...tho she was NOT wearing the dress in the skit (as per normal), she was wearing something from the very FIRST skit...yeah, I tend ta notice stuff like that.

  • You are on about when she went to America I think. She was doing sketch shows in England and had a few singles released before then.

Maybe she recycled it for her American show. We never got to see it in England. In fact, I think she only ever returned to do the odd chat show.

Can't blame her for leaving. England in the early '80's was like hell on Earth.

    It still is...

  • why do you say England is like hell on earth?

  • Back in the early '80's England was recovering from a Labour government which drove the country into the ground.

Now, in 2009, we have a Labour government which has not only driven the country to the brink of bankruptcy, EVERY member of parliament has also been found to be as corrupt as a Zimbabwean leader.

Unemployment is at record levels, people are being "given" pay cuts.

    Oh yes, Hell on Earth.

How are things in the U.S?

  • it's just about the same here. the economy absolutely suck's here !!! gas price's are going back up, and unemployment is at record low's here to. it's getting worse instead of better. Obama say's he's going to make thing's right? yeah i'll belive that when i see it !!! best of luck to you, peace !!!

  • Why dont you exaggerate alittle more - get real the UK is noway near HELL ON EARTH , its still a wonderful place to live
