I wonder if these two guys discussed the proper pronunciation of Nogueira's name before they made this, because you clearly hear Kesting saying his name correctly. Great video, but It's kinda distracting hearing that repeatedly
i like how the leg over the head is not considered the 'traditional' kimura position, however this is exactly what kimura himself did to helio in what was the origin of the name for the submission :D
note i'm not having a go, i just find it interesting that the 'kimura' is quite different from kimura's technique (elbow lock vs nowadays shoulder lock) :)
take off, aye? I'm just starting to really catch the accents, lol...I've been too involved with learning to let it in. Awesome channel, Stephen, I really appreciate all the time you put into the arts.
1:09 very wrong. Mir set that move up if you watch it very closely. Nog kicked mir for the first time and Mir timed the second one and kicked nogs leg, and thats how they got to the ground. Overall very well job by both of you just plz work on positions a little more, because little left or right makes big diffrent.
I really enjoyed the enthusiasm in the breakdown. I found the video to be informative, and the length of it was good too. I'm looking forward to future breakdowns of MMA's fights.
you guys are amazing btw because of that fight and that kimura im gonna be stained for life. its just i thought kimura wasnt that good of a submisiion really but after this .. im never gonna be the same again :D
Really great video about an amazing fight, but am I the only one who laughed at 7:16? That shit killed me. I think it was the look on Stephan's face, so funny.
Nice... I'll see about getting our coach, Carlos Catania, to make a video somewhat like this. He actually was Frank Mir's training partner under Sergio Penha in Las Vegas. Great job explaining it!
Awesome technical breakdown. Pleazze keep em coming. Would it be asking too much if you also post a drill (perhaps a chain -flow drill) as a spin-off to one these MMA fight breakdowns ?
This is FASCINATING! Please do more play-by-play analysis like this!
Mir and Big Nog are probably the best jiu jitsu players in the UFC heavyweight division right now. What a fight! God, just imagine when Barnett and Werdum get in the mix!
Nogueira should have done like he did against Schaub: throwing punches on his head until the referee stops the fight, he made a mistake going for a submission.
Nogueria had the control, especially after couple of punches connected, but for some reason he wanted to submit Mir, which was the horrible decision... and his pride pay the price...
Nice breakdown. Not sure if it was posted here yet but it was not the shoulder. It sure looked like it and normally it would be but there are pictures of Big Nog's x-ray, he broke his humerus right above the elbow. Very nasty submission and very rare for the damage to occur where it did.
Hello Stephan, at min. 1:12 you say Mir take Nogueira down, but you didn´t see how it was done, let me tell you, Nogueira was throwing knees to Mir midsection, at the second knee Mir times the movement and with his leg trips the Minotauro leg and at the same time pushes the forehead of Rodrigo backwards and that´s how he take him down.
♥ This is fantastic. Things happen so fast in the fights, that it's easy to blink at the wrong time and find yourself saying, "How did they get from there, to there?" Love the breakdown, and I'd love to see more of this.
@richnin IMO, he was trying to make a statement. The Noguiera bros. are very proud of their Jiu Jitsu and Mir has never been submitted. Big Nog was trying to be the first to sub Mir. Irony, it seems, had other plans.
You got the final finishing position for the Kimura a little wrong - Mir's right thigh was over Nog's head, but Mir had very heavy chest to chest pressure as well. He wasn't posting on his elbow as you show. Mir's legs were sprawled to keep that chest pressure, and he used his right leg to drive to create extra leverage for the arm break.
@Dave2713 All Canadians talk like that, because even though Canada's bigger than the US, it doesn't have regional accents, right? Makes perfect sense.
The type of nice grappling that we can rarely see in the UFCs in recent years!! I'm sick of the recent UFCs - it's mostly about kicking and punching! I like early UFCs - from 1993-2005 period approximately!!
