  • I owned this car, and it was amazing. I think I put 300,000 miles on it, blew a piston and still drove it to West Virginia from... Detroitish? Annnnnd I loved the dash! There was this big flat area with raised up edges for a table like thing. I made sandwiches, rolled cigarettes for people (NOT DRUGS.) put a laptop on it... I have a new ford now. I miss the table.

  • Ford and Nissan (Datsun) were big on 1/2 year models back in the day.

  • If it makes any difference I had the 1.6L engine, I think the EXP had a larger displacement engine.

  • I bought an 88 ford escort a couple weeks ago. It's a piece of shit, but I love it because it beats taking the bus. I want to learn how to fix it up.

  • Yes...the EXP and the Escort had the same engine.

  • wow comparing to hyundai in the 80s is pretty big ford

  • I'm sure Hyundai is laughing now in 2009...

  • Oh my, I had a 1981 Escort that ate head gaskets for lunch. After the third one that warped the head I junked it.

  • Ha,ha! Who didn't own an '81-'82 Escort that didn't eat head gaskets.

  • 2 door, fun little car to drive but like I said, head gaskets and heads weren't cheap.

  • I got it used. But even still it ate head gaskets (and heads) until I junked it.

Otherwise it was a fun car to drive.

  • The names Ford Escort and Ford Granada meant different things in U.S. and Europe...

  • even though i have nothing against the americans that is not a proper ford escort. what we have here in england is a ford escort

  • it is still a pain in the ass to get parts to this day because of these mid model year changes

  • 88 1/2. Who the hell says a half of year when they are selling a car? That's like an adult saying i'm 21 1/2 years old.

  • That was quite common for Ford to do during the 90's. Trying to get parts was a pain in the ass because most people didn't know if they had an early or late year model and parts would change mid-year.
