why can't he just use both his hands. I usually remove the back lens cap and then remove the lens on camera and switch on the other and I have heavy lenses 24-70/70-200 f2.8. seems pretty dumb to keep the camera dangling without cover, only wud work at home environment but then why do u need to do it at home
If you are putting the lens in a "camera bag" and its clean... There is NO fear of damage or scratching!
I throw my lenses in and out of my think tank gear with reckless abandon and have NEVER had an issue with "dust". Even if you do get some, it can be taken care of via automation in PS or LR.
I would suggest you spend some money on a think tank lens Changer and ditch the shoulder bag.
It is difficult to explain why people purchase full crop for long range as your losing mega pixels but in any case.
with my set up mentioned above your getting post 1.6x crop 1280mm with a rapid fire of 8 CRAW shots per second.
For an f stop of 5.6-8 depending on your preference, for that power the amount you save vs full crop 5Dmk2 is about 5 grand to buy the 600mm before converter and it still isn't as powerful lol. So it is really up to you.
Mind numbing but comical at times...love the 'blow'. However, swinging around a heavy lens by only holding the body of the camera has always been on the "do not do" list. It's not written in stone but it sure puts the mount under a fair chunk of stress that I would not want by camera subjected to.
Oh my god just change the lens already!!! I shoulda read the top comments and skipped. What the hell do we care about your dust issues?? And 40 seconds for a lens change isn't something to brag about.
Do love the the bag and strappy thing, do I wanna keep watchingh to see if he tells us where he got it?? hmmmm am pretty bored so far ...
I can see two problems here. 1st is blowing on the lens with your mouth - oils and dirt on your breath will coat your front element. 2nd is resting the DSLR on your pants - (fair enough if they're leather pants) you will get much more dust from the fabric in your pants than you would from fresh air.
Hi, I live in Dubai and experience sand and dust storms 4 times a day, it is very hard to change lenses whilst in a Sand storm as the sand particles can end up in the lenses and camera body were the shutter is, how would you change a lense in a dust storm, do you have any tips. Thankyou, Framaley
I really like that strap, very nice. I thought you did fine lol. I heard the 5d's were really bad about slinging grease, especially right after servicing. I don't know how true it is, I would be spending the money on lenses first. To the other poster, As far as the stamp tool, that works great for anything but faces, unless you can clone one face from another image or mask. Lol, stamp a piece of wallpaper onto someone's face and see what it looks like lmao.
9:22 seconds for a lens change video? Come on Bob... just shoot more and worry less about your dust. If you clean your sensor regularly you won't have to worry so much about your dust. Also since we are talking - don't forget you are shooting digital and Photoshop has a really nice tool call the Rubber Stamp tool. Use it, it is your friend. Thanks for posting anyway. Happy New Year!
Another thing, Blowing air with your mouth is not a big deal. A lot of pros will still do it, and because they know not to slobber and keep a distance enough from the camera lens, it doesn't hurt the camera lens. The "OMG HIS MOUTH?!" crowd can shove it far as I am concerned.
Hello, Please don't be discouraged by the people with the negative comments. I don't see them taking the time to share their method like yourself. It may not be the "best in the world", but it is a way and its helpful for a lot of people. Keep making helpful videos, despite the assholes out there.
I have clue about photography, I do not have to bracketing the exposure, due I not waste fim, so It is not expensive either, what mean I can use film camera!
If the talent and knowledge is there film photography is cheaper than digital, and you never have to worry about dust!
should never leave your camera on! electrostatic charges attract dust while the camera is on, especially if you are resting the camera on your dirty pants during a shoot!
Thanks for the tip letting us go straight to 6:20 to see something. In a Dust Storm, Clean plastic bag/ can liner? easy to manipulate camera in change lenses cap, etc. I have been doing that for years and it works great. I work taking pics at ranches and outdoors, the bag creates a little flexible clean room. Dangling? Think I do that too.
Hi Bob. Hey, I thought you did a really nice job of portraying a realistic field lens change involving more substantial lenses, and your priorities were all right on, as far as I'm concerned. I personally use a slightly larger bag with more room so that the lenses don't get pinched as I'm inserting or withdrawing them. Other than that, I like your technique for its protection of all gear involved in a reasonably efficient manner! Well done with your first video!
36 seconds to change from one lens to the other...

It takes me 3 seconds to change from a f1.8 50mm to a 75-300mm on a canon t3

geeeeezzzzzz.......here is my solution to minimize dust in the lens and camera:
always keep the opening down or away from the eliments
minimize time exposed
and have your caps ready to facilitate this
IT IS NOT THAT DIFFICULT......

Why do you need to reverse hoods and put caps on?

You may as well use a 7D. Here is why: At 100mm for ease of understanding (60D 18mpxls 5.6fps) (7D 18mpxls 8fps) (5Dmk2 ≡13mpxls 3.9fps).
Sports, Wildlife photography = 7D
Film = 60D
Wide angle / fish eye = 5Dmk2
EG. A Canon 100-400mm lens is effectively 680mm on crop.
A canon 600mm lens is £6,667, a 100-400mm lens is £900
Photography is 40% lens 40% Photographer 20% Camera
Sling the 5Dmk2 and 70-200mm trade it for 7D, 100-400mm and 2x iii converter. :)
This set up is superior.

I guess blowing excess dust with your mouth is ok as long as you don't spit on it unwillingly.
