Kenpo looks really effective, as long as your attacker stands perfectly still and lets you do your cool-looking BS on him. Hold still now, while I do a triple backfist on ya! LOL!!!
This video made me laugh - the black guy standing there totally still like a statue while the late Ed Parker, kenpo "grand master" applies some ridiculous-looking BS techniques to him, with his hair flying. That guy couldn't have fought his way out of a paper bag against a real opponent. Hell, even I probably could have knocked him out. And he's considered to be the grand master and founder of kenpo karate? Kenpo is obviously a BS martial art, so I will look at other styles instead.
Listen, troll - why should I apologize for telling the truth? There are others here who said the same exact things I did, and much more, in an even less "respectful" manner. Yet you ignored their comments, and demand an apology from me? Not gonna happen.
Personal insults now - very classy. No, troll - my parents were very nice people, and they treated me well. I can tell you're really invested in Kenpo, and you resent me for saying that it's a BS martial art (which it is), but I can't help you with that - I'm not a psychiatrist. BTW, your jungle music sucks. Aren't you a little old (39) to be listening to (c)rap "artists" like Dr. Dre and Eminem? Are you black, or just an aging "whigger?" I think the latter.
He was also a Judo blackbelt and a good boxer. Parker knew about fighting and he knew about what different styles had to offer. BJJ is the cool thing now because of the UFC. BJJ is not new though.
@muclesmarinara You talk a lot about how good a figther Paker was. However, no one has ever seen a video of Parker actually sparring a RESISTING opponent. Everything he did was hit static opponent with his fancy bitchslapping.Kenpo does not work
In the 1990's BJJ was more than enough, as proven by the Gracies in the cage. They fought all sorts of "Masters" and kicked their asses. Now, it is not enough because the Gracies have disseminated their art and lots of fighters know the techniques.
@nerdswers Even the Gracies knew how good Parker was. When the Gracies were doing "the Gracie Challenge" they said that they could beat any fighter, Ed Parker called them and said "does that include me?" the Gracies said "No Mr. Parker."
@muclesmarinara LMAO!! The Gracies would've destroyed Parker in a matter of seconds. Parker was a showman, not a real martial artist. This is why you'll never see any video clip of Ed Parker sparring (much less fighting) a resisting opponent.
When you make such a ridiculous claim about the Gracies backing out of a fight with Ed Parker, you have to state some evidence to support it. For instance, you can start by clarifying who said "No, Mr Parker" and when did that happen. Bullshit!! LOL!
@nerdswers So Ed Parker wasn't a Martial Artist? He is only one of the most legendary Martial Artists of all time but whatever. The Gracies are good at their game but they had respect for Ed Parker who was the greatest American Martial artist of all time. Chuck Norris even complemented Parker in a few interviews. Parker impressed Bruce Lee, Parker was from the "old school" ways of training and was deadly on his feet and deadly on the ground. Plus, nobody can get a real fight on film in 1959.
@muclesmarinara So, you have Ed Parker as the most legendary martial artist of all time but you have never seen him sparring or fighting? He may have been very popular because of his static demos but his fighting skills were very questionable.
There is footage of Bruce Lee sparring against resisting opponent. Similarly, there are TONS of footage of Ed Parker doing demos against static opponents. Why do you think there is nothing but static demos from Ed Parker?
@nerdswers He is respected by people who know the truth. American Kenpo is his system and he has produced so many quality instuctors. Speakman and Larry Tatum and so many others. Those guys are all great fighters and they all learned from Ed Parker. If Parker was not good at fighting then he would not have been able to train the experts of today.
@muclesmarinara Have you ever seen a video clip of Larry Tatum sparring or fighting a resisting opponent? Of course not! These kenpo instructors all have high degree belts but they can't fight. The belt ranking system in kenpo sucks tremendously. You can get belts without having to fight a resisting opponent
Those guys can't be called experts unless they prove to be so in the ring.Anyone can hit a static opponent... that is what they do ALL day and that's why they have their huge bellies
@nerdswers So all of the respect that Larry Tatum gets from other martial artists from other styles is wrong?
Kenpo is not a ring art, it's not a sport. Kenpo is for real life practical self-defense. The street doesn't have prize money for the winner and it dosen't have a ref to stop the fight...you would know this if you ever spent a day in your life.
@muclesmarinara Who respects Tatum? Only kenpoists do.No one can respect someone who has never demonstrated his skills against a resisting opponent
How can you say kenpo is for real practical self-defense if you don't practice realistically against a resisting opponent? You're conditioning yourself to think that your opponent will remain static while you do all the fancy handwaiving. The street does have a price.. your life! You'd know this if you hadn't drunk Ed Parker's Kool-Aid yourself
@nerdswers I never trained under Ed Parker actually but i can tell when someone is on to something and Ed Parker was on to something. Michael Pick was a student of Ed Parker and now he is on the International Close Quarters Combat Team. How did he get there? How did he impress the other fighters on that team? Kenpo.
So in your way of thinking, none of the Kenpoists can fight. Yes you are correct. None of them can fight and none of them have anything to offer.
@muclesmarinara You've spent lots of time trying to convince me with your own opinions but all you have to do is show me a video showing either Parker, Tatum, Mills, Trejo or any of the many "famous" kenpo instructors SPARRING OR FIGHTING A RESISTING OPPONENT. That will shut me up. Everything else only reinforces my point that kenpo is only for show.
Kenpo has something to offer if you are fat and/or old and can't practice a real martial art.
@nerdswersJust because there isn't a video doesn't mean that they are not good fighters. Martial Arts has been around for generations and i doubt there is alot of video of the founder of Kung-Fu or video of the first Judo class! In today's world everything is on videotape but there was a time that some things were not. To say that he is not a good fighter because there is no video is very close minded.
@muclesmarinara Don't you find it very suspect that NONE of the alleged kenpo masters have been filmed sparring against a resisting opponent? I find it EXTREMELY SUSPECT, especially because many of his contemporary martial arts have been filmed such as Bruce Lee, Helio Gracie, Kimura.
Ed Parker and his band of fat ass "master" instructors NEVER spar even though cameras have been around for most of their life times and they have always been filmed handwaiving in front of a static uke. LOL!
@muclesmarinara Are you still not convinced that your kenpo instructors are stealing your money? LOL!!
If you find a video of Ed Parker, Larry Tatum, Paul Mills and the rest of the fat instructor squad (all of which have/had high degree belts) you would be a millionaire as that would be even more rare than a Yetti sighting! LOL. Why is it that these kenpo guys never show their skills against resisting opponents like Bruce Lee or the Gracies did? The answer: they can't spar!!
@boehmtj Oh ok so you do Aikido. I like Aikido too but i like Kenpo more because it is the best Martial Art for Self Defense and Ed Parker is an American Martial Arts legend who deserves alot of respect.
You know I'm keen to point out after watching these kenpo videos and almost ALL of them having the same detractors: your criticism is just a sycophantic as those you ridicule. We get it, Kenpo sucks, you're all certainly qualified to let everyone know. Everyone ok now. Good. Can we move on?
Does anyone have clips of Ed Parker fighting against a resisting opponent? Even if it is point fighting, I'd love to see it. I'm trying to understand why people are so passionate about Ed Parker without having ever seen him fight to test his skills.
@Deilgyre You know what... anyone can write books. There are books written on mythology and that does not make it real.
Mr. Parker was a master of static uke demonstrations. There are tons of evidence to show how many demonstrations he did with cooperative partners. However, there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING showing how well he did in sparring sessions or fights against resisting opponents.
Mr. Parker is a textbook example of what bullshit is made of.
@nerdswers Sparring sessions? You know his art was designed purely for stand-up streetfighting, right? No holds barred, real self defense. He demonstrated because he was teaching; that's what teachers do. He did his time on the streets of Honolulu as a young man (gangs), and that's where he learned the traditional MA stuff he was shown didn't work.
I don't recall any other MA masters poking his chest for a fight to see what he was made of, including your BJJ masters. They knew the deal.
@Deilgyre I know he claimed to have designed the art for street fighting, but he never proved it. All you have as proof is some hearsay but no evidence. I don't practice bjj exclusively, but at least the Gracies stepped out and recorded their NHB fights to prove their system works and it did (at least for 1-1 unarmed combat). You CAN'T say the same for kenpo without having to resort to hearsay, rumors and myth. Don't argue with words, just show a video or any tangible proof...
@Deilgyre BTW, real self-defense cannot be limited to stand-up... that is a huge mistake. Real self-defense must give you some tools for any circumstance because the streets are unpredictable.
Kenpo is only for show... just look at all the kenpo crap posted in YouTube or elsewhere and try to find something that resembles realistic training against a resisting opponent. Anything works when your "uke" cooperates and does the techniques for YOU. Kenpo and Mr. Parker are SHIT!
@nerdswers Wow. So all of the brilliant Kenpo instuctors are teaching shit to their millions of students? Larry Tatum? Huk Planas? No. You don't understand Kenpo. Also, you should not choose to go to the ground in a fight. Humans have evolved and we are meant to be upright. You only go to the ground if you have to.
@muclesmarinara The answer to your question is a resounding YES! These "instructors" are teaching a load of shit to their students and, even worsts, students are happily paying to be taught a crappy, unproven system. In case you did not know, law enforcement statistics indicate that 80-90% of the fights go to the ground. Kenpoists are completely lost in the ground, just as much as they are standing up. When their opponent starts to resist, all the fancy handwaiving goes down the toilet.
@nerdswers BJJ is so limited as a style. It is not even a complete style. Have you tried bringing someone in a real fight to the pavement? How many stitches did it take for your knees to close up? This is not bulllshit UFC where you can hit the mat as hard as you like. The streets are rough and bumpy and only an idiot would take a fight to the pavement on purpose.
@muclesmarinara No one is saying that BJJ is the perfect system. However, there are tons of footage of BJJ fighting against resisting opponents. The Gracie brothers have footage, that I've seen, with them fighting in the street so they have proven it works on the pavement.
No such footage exists of ANY of the kenpo masters fighting against a resisting opponent. Kenpo is just a bunch of crap that only works for demos.
Kenpo looks really effective, as long as your attacker stands perfectly still and lets you do your cool-looking BS on him. Hold still now, while I do a triple backfist on ya! LOL!!!

@nerdswers Their passionate about Mr Parker because of the genius behind his system. He was a maestro of stand-up physical combat motion.
"Ed Parker's Infinite Insights Into Kenpo: Mental and Physical Applications Vol 5" - is a good book to pick up.
Also, Mr Parker was under no delusion that he was a badass who was untouchable. Hence all the checks in the system. ;)
