  • He could have kept walking up the trailer......no need to stop and swivel around and all......definitely a non operator.......

  • @matty8371 Any one who would make that coment just shows how much they know about operating....

  • @copperheadmarine If you stop just before proceeding the point of balance tip and then SLOWLY creep foward with bucket high enuff, there will be no problems.....I do it every time I load........

  • @matty8371 actually YOU seem to be a non operator. this is just the simple task of loading a trailer and you leave something like that as a comment. Its called weight distribution idiot!

  • Yeah here it works out to usually 17,000kg on a tandem axle grouping, Front axle with 'skinny' tires and rims 5500kg's. Triples 23,000kg's heaviest front axles I have driven were 7300kg's. Those drop down axle's you guys have in the 'State's and in Ontario and Quebec are illegal on the Prairie's and in B.C., The Yukon and the NWT. Don't why but that's how it works.

  • @bert26a yeah 50,600 lbs on a tandem (10 wheel) configuration, now add a 7000 lb. drop axle and your legal to 69,600.....what sense does that make?

  • always a good sign when you see the door and windshield closed... the a/c works!

  • If you don't mind me asking

how much do you charge by the hour

  • @Zeery1 At this time when the video was made it was $100...Now its $125

  • How many speeds is your transmission

I have a 30,000Ib Wheel Loader just wandering if a fuller 10 speed is good enough to pull it around. What do you think?

  • is the excavator 22 ton i thought it was around the 15 16 ton been a 215 ore is a 15 ton like an old 120

  • @MegaCat312 44,000 lbs...checked it more than once.

  • plans to get a newer hoe?

  • @hawker800FO Not really? I cant get any more money on the hour for a new one? A newer hoe may work a bit faster but will burn more fuel and the parts are more expensive. So if I work by the hour most of the time a newer hoe will make me less money. does that make sense? I have 2 225s as well as this 215.

  • @copperheadmarine i thought it would have burnt less to be honest

  • @hawker800FO Tier 4-3B emission regulations baby! somehow burnig twice the fuel is good for the enviroment?

  • @copperheadmarine good lol screw the enviroment ;) saudi arabia came out today saying horseshit to prices so BURN AWAY GOOD SIT

  • @copperheadmarine SIR* lol

  • doubt that would fly here. Get busted on axle weight

  • @hammerdwn20 Can't have 44 K on a set of tandems? we are actually allowed 90K on 5 axles with no permit if its construction equipment. 12' wide with no permit. with the exception of Interstate have to be 80k or under in the I state. I haul 35K with my F-350 and the tri axle gooseneck and they never say any thing about that. I have been wieghed to make sure I'm not over gross but they never said anything about over axle?

  • @copperheadmarine Little different here in NJ i guess. You can be under on your GCWR but still get fined if your over on axle weight. a guy in the same yard as us got fined for being 200lbs overweight on his front axle even though he was under on gross. Move the load back a little and its legal

  • i operated a cat 229d some 15 years ago i was still in school then but one awsome machine i was every weekend for 9 months

  • Hey Copper

Tell us some details about the truck

    what kind of engine

    how many horsepower

does it have a jake brake

how many speeds is the tranny

  • Was that you in another video operating a dresser track loader with a backhoe attachment on it

If So What did you think about that machine was it good or bad

  • @Zeery1 Um...Yeah, on Letsdig18's channel. Thats a complicated question? I would hate to have to make a living with it but it was fun to play with.

  • No Hills Right

  • @Zeery1 Not much for hills here. Kinda flat land. Did a job in the foothills last year about this time and the old girl labored in the hills!

  • caterpillar 215 cierto las he operado allí se ven los operadores de verdad los pedales se comen a los operadores inexpertos dos pedales y una palanca en el centro

  • @ceincicial Translation to english anyone?

  • @copperheadmarine

According to Google Translate it says:

"I have a 215 caterpillar operated there are real operators pedals eat inexperienced operators two pedals and a lever on the center"

  • @brejso Thanks! I think I know what he means.....

  • Cool vid. I haul a 9020 case (18 ton) like this on a 20 ton tag along.

  • cool video i love stuff like this

  • Watched other vids, 25k hrs!!!! I have '94 Link Belt and '05 Cat 307c. LB is ok, Cat is fine! Gonna post vids of jobs, just gettin started. Lots of seat time on tractors, hoes and little on dozer(too ruff). I would crush beer cans for free just to run a machine.

  • @vernjr88 I linked this to your loading video...It will help you pick up views.

  • I was taught to operate on a Cat 215, cool to see! Trailer is just big enough. Does the A/C work, saw tint on windows and door closed???!!!!

  • @vernjr88 yes the AC works. I installed it myself several years ago, never even had to add any freon over the years. Red Dot model R-7830 18,000 btu's 260 cfm's

  • the trailer will hold it an the truck will pull it the only two things you have to worry about is stopping and blowing tires on the trailer

  • @bigdeerefan2640 The brakes are new and they work very well, they are air and I feel more than adequate. The tires are also New 215/75/R-17.5

  • great skill mate, love your old digger too, i like the way it puts black smoke out

  • @db1490dave Thank you! I'm not very smooth but I get the job done. My regular operator is smooth as silk!

  • Obviously not his first time, well done.

  • @bcmollyhogan Thank you! Maybe my second.....LOL

  • was this taken before the 215 got its makeover? aka paint. Also if I may ask why does it sound like an RC car when you swing the excavator around. Never herd it like that on any other machine!

  • Yes we painted her a few months later. The swing went out about 5 years ago and I rebuilt it with all new "CLASSIC" Cat parts, gears, housing and bearings. It has always sounded like that before and after. I heard some old timers say the 215 has a "DEATH" swing?

  • the trailers to small. blah blah blah

  • very nicely executed

  • is that your operating or are you the camera person?

  • That's me on the machine, the camera man is a truck driver.

  • Well, it would have made a good video.

  • oh,becuz i thought u were sweating it out in there lol!

  • does dis excavator have A/C ?

  • Yes, Red Dot 18,000 btu, 260 CFM blower

  • yeah, i saw a few vids on here where they were over 3K RPM, not sure how good that is for the engine, turbo, etc

  • I have a rebuilt spare ready just in case!

  • Sounds good, I'd say you're prob at the 300 max or maybe over like you say, how many RPM's will it turn up to?

  • It was @ 2500, I drove an automatic DT 466 one time and it shifted @ 3000 so I figured it would work for me. Seems to be OK @ 3000 RPM

  • Well you know what they say about horse power. HP sells engines and trucks and torque moves the load down the road!

  • I love the sound of the swing gear, it's tough to kill an old Cat.

  • Funny you should say that. I built the swing gear box about 4 or 5 years ago. The only origional part is the top of the gear case. All new gears, all new bearings, bottom case and pinion extension. All the parts came from Cat, Classic parts they call them. But most of them had the origional part number stamped in them with a classic part number written on them with ink. I think I had less than $4,000 in parts and frieght. Did the labor myself.

  • Hey I was going to video something for you the other day. You said you were interested in anything with boobs?

  • I like boobs.

  • I know! It says so on your profile!

  • Oh....well done Ron :o)

  • don't we all haha

  • Check out my video Tandem dumptruck DT 466 international, and listen to the narration!

  • most likely 210 or 250 on the DT466

  • Well, I had the pump rebuilt to stock about 6 years ago, 225 hp. Then about two years ago, when they went to ultra low sulphur diesel. I increased the rack and decreased the anneroid, or the air box governor. It was like getting into another truck! No joke. I know how to adjust the rack on every thing I have. or how to increase the fuel, Detroits you change the injectors. If you watch my videos you can see a bunch of black smoke!

  • hey it gets the job done, Nice job!

  • A local contractor arround here is R.E. Goodson from Darlington SC. He loves a piece of junk more than me. He has a bunch of old cat equipment. He will put 3 or 4 235s on a job, one for a spare. They say he can move a million yards of dirt faster than anyone out there. He has all the work he can do he is always low bid and he is a multi millionare. It works for him so maybee I will do OK with it too?

  • the old cat equipment runs forever we are still running some of it

  • @copperheadmarine this is just my opinion, the reason these machines work out so good for Goodson on the jobs is because they are from the time when cat built a good machine, they might be a little slower than the new ones but they are steady and don't have much downtime, if i remember right, when he built that interchange at 41A he had a 235 loading trucks and a newer excavator parked on the side

  • How much horse power the old Int have? Also don't you suffer with lots of repair time and costs because you run old equipment? How do you figure the 215 can weigh 22tons? You'd think it would be closer to 15 ton... I not criticizing you, I love your old Champion grader but I am just curious.

  • Well it said 225 on the valve cover, but that was before I cut back the aneroid in the fuel pump and increased the rack. So on the internet it says a DT 466 could be from 125 to 300 HP. I would think I'm near the max or over it. The 215 wieghs 44,000 plus dirt in the undercarriage. I work on the equipment myself, from engines to transmissions even final drives, hydraulic pumps and differentials. You would be surprised how little downtime I have.

  • i just rebuit the final drive in my d6d, the parts only cost around $700 can't beat the old cat machines

  • Charlie you're the man. The Real Deal! Keep on keepin on brother!

  • The or thee?

  • Very nice, we haul our rubber tired loader the same way. Pretty close to 13.6 on the height. Our hyster forklift runs a little taller than that but they let us sneek it by. Saves time and money. Phil

  • Well, it cuts out the lowboy truck and trailer. And it cuts out a trip. I can load the Champion or the Huber grader and go to a job, unlaod prep for stone, haul the stone, set up and grade the stone and then load up and head home and I'm done...well, all but the bill I guess!

  • Make a vid of putting the Champion on the trailer! I haven't seen the Huber you speak of...could you make a few vids of that machine please?

  • Well if you lokk at the video of the tractor sideways on the trailer and the one about getting it off, you can catch a glimpse of it on the trailer. It lads easy, only wieghs 25,00 lbs.. I'll see what I can do about a vid of loading it and one with the Huber in it.

    Charlie

  • drop 1000lbs just cleaning of tracks and carriage

  • well, I recon I can do a spearment? I'll roll it cross the scales fouled, then I will clean the undercarriage and re wiegh it and just see how close you are. They really should be cleaned every day but that doesn't happen!

  • this guy deserves a medal....for being a smug prick. truck and crawler combined age...257 years. runs on steam lol

  • You mean I could get a medal for that?...I guess I could put it in a case with that cluster of Bronze Stars & that Silver Star.

    Truck is a 79'

Excavator and trailer were both bought in 86'

Air conditioner works in the Cat and the truck, Paid for and hire for the same rate as those new ones that the repo man is looking for right about now!

  • TOUCHE' !!!! keep on truckin'

  • the end gave me a chuckle.
