Thats an awesome trick. But what about small numbers? Like 385 / 5? I need to know long division without a calculator because I'm going to be writing a test on February 26th (One day away)

I tried the trick but either Im doing something wrong, or theres a different trick :/

the shortcut he is showing only works with the number 9.

This shortcut below works only with the number 5

5 is just half of 10, so take

385/10 = 38.5 which is just moving the invisible decimal at the end of the number one place making it 38.5 then take 38.5 x 2 = 77.

or if you rather add instead of multiplying, make it 38.5 + 38.5 = 77 and that's your answer for 385/5.

@extra0fluffy To divide a number by 5 you simply double the number and then insert a decimal point wherever you think is appropriate. For 385 ÷ 5:

385 × 2 = 770, insert the decimal point where appropriate → 77.0 or 77, and you have the answer.

through your question i suddenly made this trick, dunno if it works for others but try this one

385 /5

> take the first two digit : 38, divide it by 5

so >38/5 = 7 remainder 3

now place the remainder in the remaining digit so likely this one

>38(3)5, since we have already solved for 38, now its 35 (remember i only said place not add)

>now divide it by 5 so it is still 7

>place your answers in other and you shall get 77

i think dis only works for non decimal numbers

ahhh, someone please help me see what i'm doing wrong, im trying 125 / 5 to get 25 but it's not working i did this

125 13 + (8 / 5) or 13 + 1.6 or 14.6 and 14.6 x 5 doesn't make 125.

seems to work only when you divide by 9

for instance

125 / 9

1 3 then 8 /9 = 0.8888 so

13.888888... is the result
