Agreed, when you hit it you just make it fear your hand ( and other people's hands) when you/ they try and touch/ stroke it. If you want it to get off then you should lire it off with a treat and then reward it. Preferably whilst holding the treat say 'off' so the dog associates that word with getting off as well as good things.
