I think 'white guilt' is overrated. If whites were so easily guilted into voting for a black candidate to atone for past sins, Jesse Jackson would've already been Prez. Obama has no credentials, and his nomination is affirmative action at it's worst. The American people have to stop feeling guilt over racist acts committed by a few white people a couple of hundred year ago. You think people in the middle east will like America more because we have a black president? Wake up! They are the most racist people in the world! Slavery was a horrible thing, we all know it. But I had nothing to do with it!! On the other hand, my family has suffered violence at the hands of African Americans. What is disgusting is that she thinks Obama is exactly the same as her and not giving the man any credit for what he has accomplished ON HIS OWN, i.e. making Senator (which she failed at twice) and not needing to ride the coattails of a white man to make it to the White House (as she attempted w/ Mondale). Sabu thats part of it isnt it. Go back and look at the polls for support for the war just before the invasion...I think it was like80%. Which judging by the latest polls means about half the country feels like morons for believing Bush. Id be willing to bet that includes all these people supporting Hillary. Nija, I don't know how many of the haters won't vote for Obama because they're intimidated by his intellect. I think at the end of the day it comes down to pure ignorance, the fear of the black man and refusing to acknowledge that a minority can handle the biggest white man's job there is, i.e. Prez of the US. I think 'white guilt' is overrated. If whites were so easily guilted into voting for a black candidate to atone for past sins, Jesse Jackson would've already been Prez. A lot of whites genuinely like Obama on all sorts of different levels and can picture him handling this gig well. And some also see his bi-racial background as a sign of hope that he can unite the country after all this division we've been through. And that possibility is a nightmare for the power establishment AND racists alike.

But whatever the size of the that guilt vs human vote, I've seen WAy to many interviews with dumbfucks saying: " I heard he was a musleem", to not think his race is hurting him way more than helping him.

Obama gains absolutely ZERO advantage by playing up his race/ethnicity - he'd be stupid to when the black population is only 13% of the US and blacks voting far less than that. He's been doing his best to keep it on the issues and not get low down and dirty but once the other side decides they're gonna take it down to that level NO MATTER WHAT you have no choice but to fight back or the smears will stick. Ardex, what Geraldine may be thinking of Mr. Obama is that he's not SMART enough to run the country, but since he has enough money and he's black, people will rally behind him because we as a country HAVE to prove that we're not racists. What Ferraro is thinking is that Barack doesn't have enough EXPERIENCE to run the country. He's clearly quite intelligent. The whole race thing works in both directions. Barack is winning right now because of the 90% plus black vote he is getting. Most of those people are voting for him foremost because he is black. There are white people voting for him becuase he is black too. I don't think that's a bad thing. It's just a fact, as Ferraro said. Candidates appeal for different reasons.

If either of the Dem. candidates have a brain in their heads, they'll both get away from this whole issue as fast as they can. The more noise they make about it, the more of a novelty act they *both* make themselves look like. The quickest way for these two to completely shelve the hopes for minority citizens to attain high political office for another sixty years is to keep on whining about how unfair the system is being to them because they're women/black/whatever.
