I have been making Korker bows for quite a while now. I spray mine with starch and then bake ad it make a tight curl. Have you had any feedback about the ribbons coming unkorker after heavy use or if it gets wet?
I just had to show this video to my husband so he wont think i was crazy , I told him i needed some wooden doles so i could bake my ribbon and make it curly and he was like uh huh oookay than lol . Thanks for the video :)
Beautiful! I love your weaved headbands, and have been trying to figure out a way to get the curly (I didn't know they call them "Korkers"), ribbons; have been trying different methods such as stiffener, etc. Thanks for the oven tip! I just found your channel, & love your work!
I've done 2 batches of korker ribbon in the oven, but the only thing that i'm noticing is that the darker ribbons that have patterns or what not on them .... they keep fading somee... and the colors aren't as bright anymore??Is there a way to prevent them from fading?? and also is there a way to make them stiffer? Mine came out a litle flimsy, and would like them to be a little stiffer!! Thanks!! I LOVE YOUR VIDEO~!
How does this not catch on fire!?!?!?!? Everyone keeps asking this. My mom said the ribbon will catch on fire! Can someone please explain how it won't catch fire or if it will catch on fire?
@xoxKirahB00 It doesn't. The ribbon is just heated, not touching the heating elements. I've baked the ribbon in both gas and electric ovens. Just like anything you put in your oven, make sure the wooden dowels are not touching or close to the heating elements. But, if you don't feel comfortable with it, don't do it.
I Loooove your videos! I made a hairbow for my daughter immediately after watching video. You are are so clear wtih directions. Thank you so much for sharing this! I cannot wait to try all the different bows for my little girl.
I read another lady's blog where she said to wet the ribbon before going into the oven. Do you do that? I have never done this before and I'm nervous about burning my light colored ribbons.
@cantikq Yes, you can, but the curl may not last as long. Baking permanently changes the composition of the ribbon by slightly melting it and then it cools in the new shape on the dowel. Stiffener will just hold the shape until the stiffener wears out.
@ariasmelissa909 Yes, as long as the ribbon is made from synthetic fibers such as polyester. If it is cotton ribbon (like twill tape) it will just burn. Most grosgrain and satin ribbon is polyester.
@cocourtco Grosgrain is the most popular, but you can also use satin ribbon. As long as the ribbon is synthetic it should bake and curl well in the oven.
@cremesuga1212 Yes, it's just grosgrain ribbon, we have dowel kits available on our website or craft stores should also have it available. You may need to cut the down to fit in your oven or may have to buy variety packs if you purchase it from a craft store.
Já tentei varias vezes fazer Korkers, mas não consigo qual seria a temperatura para colocar ao forno? os meus saem grudados e queimados, tem algum produto que colocamos para ele ficar engomado?
@YagamiFan Yes! You can modify the ribbon to your needs. 1/4 and 1/8 width ribbon make really cute mini korkers and I have seen 5/8 ribbon done as well. It would probably be hard to do wider than 5/8. I have also seen some people make korkers on square dowels. It is a kind of neat geometric effect. The ribbon does keep the square shape!

@MsGlitzyGlamour Due to the metal parts on the clothespin I wouldn't try it with a microwave. Any other material you try to keep the ribbon on there with may either melt or damage your microwave.
