I think Rock actually sacrificed himself for the planet. And, prevented them from trying to disobey the Abh's by taking away there defense system. And, I think they still might have a grudge against him. Who knows, Rock may have just lied to them that he got a good deal when in reality he was tortured and knew that he would be tortured beforehand.

I believe that Rock Lin understood that his people would have their pride and self respect destroyed forever if they knew just how powerless they were against the Ahb, so he sat himself up to take the blame. Future generations might think of the Ahb invasion as a result of the failure of a single man rather than the failure of their whole planet.

I would disagree, though Rock Lin made the correct decision. The Space Defense System was and is no match for the Abh ships, although no one knew it at the time.
