I saw the Deal sisters in Mtl in 2002... they rocked the house so hard, The sisters clearly had no love for one another, but between flicking each other off and spraying the fans with Buidweiser they gave a show like I have never seen before. I can only imagine what the PIxies would have been like live. The PIxies rule in so many ways it just doesn't even make sense.. how can one band be so weird, soulful, hard and fucking amazing all at once? Long live the Pixies. WOOooo!

PIXIES = SENSATIONAL. Paid double the ticket price to see them in Dublin last week. 19 years to the day since I saw them first. Quality like this is so rare . Death to the Pixies
These guys revolutioned alternative rock music. The are the coolest band ever!! None of their peers came close to them in the 80's and 90's. THey were as plain looking as ever, no one would ever accuse them of being posers and rocked their asses off...now that is very cool.
Oh yeah...Joey is one of my fav lead guitarists. He plays to suit the song without being a show off. I think his input in the studio diminished after Dolittle though.
Nirvana were always MTV's idea of alternative - Kurt was a beautiful soul ... it seems - and they could play and had their moments but I always found them to be an irritatingly melodramatic pop group - the Pixies were truly individual, unique, haunting, and catchy. There is really no comparison.
i PRAY God for my favourite band to get together again !! my dream is to see them live in concert taking all over the world... love you guys with all my heart, you were and still are a very important part of my life... ( L )
the pixies are so fucking great, definately my biggest influence in my music. so great. but i kinda feel bad for them, i mean they were so influential but they didnt really get a chance to experience the fame they deserved.
yeah, this movie was kind-of made to accent the bad tough parts of the pixies. they edited it to make it seem like there was a shitload of drama. but still, good film.
Here's a story for ya. I worked at The parker House Hotel in Bosgon in, 1983? My freind Tom works there 2 and knows I dig the local (Boston) scene. He says another co-worker is starting a band, but they don't have a name yet. So weeks later he comes back with the guy, Charlie, and introduces him. I him if his band has a name yet and the guy says "it's The Pixies" and i say "Hey man, you better drop that name fast cause it sucks. Makes you sound like a pussy". He says it's too late, gig next wk.
Like, I said, "1983?". Could have been '85 but no later. When I met C. Thompson, the band didn't even have a name yet. Bit I was done working at the Parker House Hotel in '85, so it has to be before then.
True story: 1998 F.B./Catholics play small gig in the South. I walk on stage after the show to talk to Frank. It was a bad encounter, partly my falt and his. 2003 he does a solo instore in Chicago. Has a meet and greet after. I mention that past time. He said he remembered that gig and remembered me. He apoligized, as did I. We hugged, gave me an autograph and I was out. True story.
GoogleTRUTHHRISINGnow: Frank Black was packing up gear after the stage. I went on stage to say to him that I'm glad I got the chance to see him. Before I could do so, he looked at me and said, "later man!" After my 3rd attempt he grabbed me by my shoulders, squeeze/shook me and said, "look later man!" I backed up and in oing so I stepped on his guitar stand, w/ guitar in place, almost tipping it over. He was really pissed by then.

The Pixies tried to go out on tour together after some years apart, and from what I hear, it sucked. Nirvana probably would have rocked, if Kurt had just taken a hiatus rather than the ultimate adios.
Good going artpiston, you got me! I don't really remember writing this comment too clearly, but I actually like the Pixies, so I don't know. I would have liked to see them, and I have seen the Breeders, they rocked! I've also seen Frank Black solo, and it was pretty cool. But the Built To Spill show I saw earlier tonight was definitely the shit!
The "Let me check the Ipoodoo" from Kim made me realize that the rumors about them forgeting how to play the old songs due to inactivity was true, hehe... (And I still love both Nirvana & the Pixies equally... THEY ARE DIFFERENT!).
Complicated? Most pixies songs have more than two melodies- one for the verse, one for the chorus, like oh so many nirvana songs. Thats why songs like "something in the way" or "heart- shaped box" just bore me. the bass- lines do more than just copy the guitar line. not all pixies songs follow the same pattern. they are more than just quiet loud quiet loud all over again. i mean its a question of taste. i just dont like nirvana, to me its depressing and boring music.
To me the really depressing and boring thing is to have a band that good split after just 6 years & never reach the commercial success Nirvana achieved in much much less time (legacy & all). Btw... I love both Nirvana & The Pixies... and both are DIFFERENT!!!
I wonder if Pixies songs are clearly more complicated than Nirvana songs, on the average. Maybe you´ve heard Nirvana songs a lot more often than Pixies songs.

i think thats why he was more successful. to me cobain was nothing but an overhyped kind of teenage- rolemodel, besides he couldnt write songs, its all verse-chorus-verse repeated all over again, maybe two or three hooks wired together. i mean he had some good riffs, and a decent melody here and there, but i think it takes more than just repeating the same theme over and over and over again. it just gets me pissed that people still dont realise how mediocre his music was.
What´s your problem with Kurt Cobain? In my opinion both Nirvana and Pixies (as far as I know the music of the latter)were very good bands. Why call Cobain a ´dork´ or ´some tragic trash commodity´? Why so offensive?
A special mention should be made for the man responsible for opening the doors, Richard Jones. Being a glorified door stop must have driven a man with such an unjustified ego to the brink.
He used to claim to be the manager of the Beautiful South, until the real manager of the Beautiful South informed that he wasn't and threatened legal proceedings.
my thoughts exactly. whats more, FRANK'S THOUGHT'S EXACTLY, he says so in interviews. i mean must be a bummer to put all this effort into becoming one of the most singular, hard-to-pigeonhole bands in the entire fucking history of pop culture to be judged by what some tragic trash commodity says about you... mad world
these guys are the explanation of all the music i like today. I got Doolittle when I was in 7th grade and theyve been my number one favorite band of all time ever since. I saw them in 2005 in DC. Long live
it was charles and joeys who started it........they were college roommates. after finding david to drum they put an add in a paper "looking for bass play that likes husker du"..............but once they were together they became a band
Charles and Joe are the founding members. They put an ad in the paper for a female bass player, and Kim was the only one who responded. At that point the band still did not have a drummer. Kim's husband at the time was friends with Dave, so he gave Dave a call. The rest is history.
