Can't believe this clown was talking shit about Kevin Garnett. Calling him a weak, complimentary, fake tough guy. Bullshit. KG achieved more in his career than Oakley EVER did. KG won an NBA MVP award. He won an NBA championship. He made 14-straight all star games. Oakley did NONE of that. Made it to ONE all-star game. smh. Don't ever call someone who blew your achievements out of the water, a soft player. That just displays BITTERNESS.
@leagueleader47 - according to M. Jordan, Oakley was the best defender against him. MJ practically scored at will with Oakley on the opposing team screening out Ewing so MJ can have a free lane to the basket. Oak was a joke.
Oak never backed down from Muggsy Bogues or Bob Cousy (yes, Oak is that old). Did u see Oak inflict a hard foul on Otis Thorpe during the Finals? nada amigos. Oak "picked & chose" who he gave hard fouls too...... just like Li' Floydie Mayweather Jr. -hahaha
OAKLEY has no rings and Knicks had no chance with Oak giving MJ red carpet treatment to the basket. He even blocked out his Knick teammates so they can't get to MJ. A few times, Oak gave MJ sanitized semi-hard fouls so it wouldn't look too obvious. BTW, a Mall Cop beat the crap out of Oak or was it a bell hop?
seems like OAKLEY was always blocking out the defenders so MJ can have a clear path to the basket....... and Oak was playing vs. the Bulls. I heard a Mall Cop beat the crap out of this loser Oak or was it a bell boy? So how many rings do u have Oak?
It would take nearly 3 or 4 guys his size to keep Charles Oakley from getting rebounds at both ends of the floor, but it still wouldn't make no difference Charles Oakley will find a way to get that rebound one way or another. He was grabbing rebounds like there was no tomorrow.
OAKLEY was the man. He gave up no lay ups, he would straight foul cats hard as hell, and they wouldnt do shit! lol. his jumpshot was nice, he rebounded without having great hops. i feel previledged to have watched him play for the knicks. when the knicks had oakley, mason, and mcdaniel...that frontline was serious! i loved it.
I'm a 40+ year NBA fan, and Charles Oakley is one of my favorite players ever. He was a real "blue collar" athlete. He gave 100% every game. He wasn't afraid to mix it up with the big boys, but he wasn't a dirty player, either. I think he was one of the best power forwards of his era. On the Knicks, Patrick Ewing got most of the publicity (deservedly so), but real NBA fans knew how important Oakley was to the success of the team, too.
@ftsjr starks is still my favorite player.. used to love the mid-90s knicks.. riley and van gundy era.. starks, ewing, oakley, mason, even derek harper with his gheto stache.. sick emotion.. i remember i wanted them to win in 94 against the rockets so bad... i liked mid to late nineties heat when riley went over there.. the heat had swag with alonzo and timmy emotion but they were always a poor version of the mid-90s knicks
@Iknowhowtospellsorta Knowing how much you liked Starks, this isn't easy to say. But in the 94 Rockets series, Starks should've been benched in the third quarter of game 7. After an awesome game 6, Starks went 2-18 in the last game. Riley had Rolando Blackman on the bench, but he stuck with Starks. I've been a fan of the Knicks since 1969 (I was 12). Near the end of 94, game 7, I wanted to reach thru the TV screen and strangle Riley, for not inserting Blackman, when he saw that Starks was cold.
I think Charles Oakley would be the only player in the league who would not be scared to challenge Lebron's steamroller drives to the hoop if he still played today. That would be fun to watch. Today's superstars don't earn their status, it's given to them by the media and protected by today's "light" officiating.
@tobyw232323 Ok, I will bite troll. Have you ever looked at Oakley's rebounds, assists and steals vs. Grant? Besides the actual numbers, what player ever lost sleep over having to bang in the paint with Horace the next day? >>> 0
No one sacrificed their body more than the oak man to save the ball from going out of bounds by diving on the floor from a high distance. Most men would be crying, The Oak man cried tears of joy!
all these current players as your duncun's bryant's pierce's got better once players such as Oakley, Barkley, Olajuwon left the league. All people have to do is look at the stats during the same year
yeah its sad to se the NBA go so soft its like they think people wont watch if they see big niggas acting tough or playing hard and fouling niggas driving the lane oakley owned the lane and noone came to the hoop and left in one peice..he fouled clean and hard no whats wrong with that??nothing the NBA and STern a pussys that ruined the game and they wonder whynoone wathces
@xdevelopingminds1by1 i guesss today's league is supposed to be more marketable. I much prefer the days of REAL DEFENSE where players EARNED their buckets. Every team needs a no bs guy like Oak.
Boy can do I have alot details about and opinions on what you just said..
The Def 3 secs
The HANDCHECK rule
The NBA protecting their star players...
The NBA not allowing aggressive play no more... even though recently they are allowing it....
And the more attention to promting perimeter players has made the league less enjoyable than it was back in the 80s even though I never grew up in the 80s but I know those were great times and the 90s....

@etherodromos Actually, I think Oakley would have a hard time guarding Gasol. Gasol is considerably longer and quicker than Oakley. Oakley was an enforcer, a good rebounder and intimidator. But he was a good not a great defender. And Gasol always gets his it seems.

THE BEST DEFENSIVE POWER FORWARD EVER??? that was Oak the loser posting or his retarded son. Oak can't even carry these guy's jock straps:
- Elvin Hayes
- Bob Pettit
- Kevin McHale
- and James Worthy played 4 too (and 3 of course)
Oakley is a freaking LOSER !!! A Mall Cop slapped Oak around and Oak said: "ok, thank u. U looked like M. Jordan so no prob."
