  • Are those CFL lights you have them under? Great video and peppers look fantastic! Good song too!

  • @tphamiltonz Thanks! Yes they are......26w daylight cfl's..... Cheers

  • Nice foto's man. I live in the netherlands and i grow chillies as well. A lot of sorts do very well actually, even the ones from the warmer regions of the world.

  • @Fastbikkel Thanks! Ya they are actually fairly easy plants to grow..........

  • what lights did you use?

  • @DigitalLuke 26W Daylight CFL's

  • thats awesome ive got habs ghost chillis and cayennes

  • @emotionalxxturd It definitely helps and gets them going so they are a decent size when you plant them out.

  • Good info, GREAT song! Thanks!

  • @asdfpslund Thanks.... glad you liked it!

  • why are my peppers growing so slow not like yours

  • @ThePinayMAMA Not sure.......Not sure...you mean they grew slow at the start or once outside?

  • @ThePinayMAMA Not sure.......Not sure...you mean they grew slow at the start or once outside?

  • Beautiful peppers. :^)

  • @ATG913 Thanks!

  • Are you from the Chillies galore fourm?

  • @MrFegelein No, I'm from thehotpepper forum...........

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks...

  • Excellent soundtrack.

  • beautiful slide show! i have some savina seedlings headed for containers to go outside, did you stake them in the pots? think they may need that? perhaps treat as tomato plant....

  • @daikaiju20 Thanks.......They are a shorter, bushier plant then a tomato with lighter fruit. I've had to stake a few plants in the past but not many. Just wait and see how it goes before you stake. It will be a while before you need to anyway. Good luck.

  • just wondering how long you exposed the plants to your indoor lights each day. i use the 4 ft 40 watt daylight fluorescents. thanks

  • @thejamester72 About 14 hours but your suppose to have them under light 18hrs a day......good luck with your season!

  • Cool pepper plants! im growing some bhut jolokias, wondering how you get the maximum numbers of chillis out of the plant as poss, do pinch out any early flower buds?

    Thanks

  • @ChimpChilli Thanks.....I pinch until the plant is quite big and can really produce. Make sure you have enough time to pinch and still get ripe peppers though......good luck on the season.

  • Great peppers, AWESOME song!

  • @asdfpslund Thanks....

  • i have some of those tomato plants they grow big green beans!!!

  • Great video Thanks so much I am going for it!

  • @Allonjr Your welcome, glad to hear...:)

  • love the video!!! i had some major problems with my cayenne seedlings, so much that 5 months later (today) they are still seedlings but they are all green and healthy... I am really blown away... any advice of what i did wrong?

  • @knoxclark Do you have msn messenger? If so send me you addy and I can give you some help.

  • what kind of bulbs do you use and what watt?

  • @supersticky87 23W cfl daylight spectrum.

  • what kind of lights do you use on the seedlings? always looking to improve.

  • @nagacanario 23W cfl's daylight spectrum.

  • ride on, thank you for this video, greetings from germany

  • @embroider1000 No problem, glad you liked it. :)

  • hey can you help me out. what kind of lights do you use and what wattage is necessary. i've been looking and i am completely lost.

  • @DrunkClown69 23w cfl daylight spectrum. You can use 40W 4 foot tubes in a daylight spectrum too.

  • I saw that post site suggest that you use the epson salt as a spray, they said it is better that putting it in the soil.

  • @trinigold It works faster if applied to the leaves. It should be done early morning or in the evening.

  • What fertilizer you used and how often you use it? Your plants looks great

  • @trinigold I use miracle gro ultra bloom 15 -30 -15 mixed 1/2 strength every 2 weeks and 1tbs epsom salt per gallon of water on alternating weeks.

  • Hi again. I bought that jiffy green house kit, its been three days I notice the soil has dry up, so I add a little water to it. Does this mean that it will no longer germinate?

  • Can I use age sheep manure for the hot peppers. I mix half with seedling mix light weight soil.

  • Is there any natural fertilizer I can use? When is the best time to start to fertilizer? Someone told me he don't use fertilizer just good soil.

  • @trinigold I use miracle gro ultra bloom 15-30-15 ever 2 weeks at 1/4 strength when the seedlings have 4 true leaves and then one in their final pots outside I use it every 2 weeks at 1/2 strength. On the alternating weeks once outside I use 1TBS of epsom salt per gallon of water when watering. Keeps them green and healthy.

  • I know it sounds disgusting but the best fertilizer you can use in diluted urine. It has exactly the right combination of nitrogen and phosphorous also the plant just uses the tiny chemical components it needs so it is comletely safe!@trinigold

  • Hi for Bhut Jolokia seeds, you said to soak it overnight with a weak tea, do you put this in a warm or cool place?

  • @trinigold Just on a shelf at room temp.

  • @trinigold Just on a shelf at room temp.

  • Hi there!!! so as soon as you see the first leaves, you start giving them the light???? thnanks

  • @marito001 Soon as I see part of the stem break the surface the lights are on them.

  • Did you use a heat mat???

  • @marito001 To germinate, I sure did. Soil at 80F.

  • hey what was the light set up??? great video

  • @marito001 Just 2 clamp on light sockets with reflector and 23w daylight cfls. Very cheap and simple.

  • movies all most over....its a long way to the top if you want to rock n roll!!!

  • Thx

  • How long dose it take for a pepper plant to produce peppes

  • @321man1 There are so many variables but anywhere from 65 to 100 days after planting a plant about the size you buy from a nursary in the ground.

  • Thank you --you did a beautiful job. Very helpful --I picked up a few tips; things I didn't know.

    Questions:

    1. How long before the seeds are useable? Can I use 2009 seeds for 2010 planting? How about 2010 seeds/

    2. Any tips on drying peppers and storing them for use over the year?

Thanks again --a GREAT video, and very helpful.

  • Well, they popped up, I uncovered them, but, according to what I have been told on another website, I had them too far from the grow light. That and I think I may have over-watered them. All I did was keep the soild "dark" looking, but only watered them like 2-3 times a week. That and I THINK I may have tried to transplant them to 3" pots WAY too early. I transplanted them when they got their 1st sets of leaves. So, I guess I just need to be a little more patient...GEEZ these things are slow!

  • @xMrPopeyex Chiles are very slow growing. If your lights are flourescent you can put them pretty low, Mine are about 2 to 3 inches above the plants. I wait to transplant until I see roots poking out the bottom of the peat pellets. If you plant in tray and can;t see the roots the first 2 sets of true leaves should be a good time to transplant.

  • @chillilover1 how do do u make/prepare pepper seed, i got some seeds of green peppers, is there a dormancy period? are the seeds useless, will they even germinate as i think green peppers are unripe?

  • @Shutkaroo I've planted some red pepper seeds right from a fresh pepper and they sprouted. To save though you need to dry the seeds and store in a air tight ziploc.

  • Cool vid. I lost my first set of plants/seeds. (I am a rookie, so I am learning as I go.) Pretty much ALL of my seeds have sprouted. I am just nervous now that they are seedlings. I dont want to screw anything up! Any pointers on seedling care?

I already have them 6"-10" under a grow light. I keep them watered, but not TOO watered. And since just about all have sprouted, I removed them from the heat. Any more tips?

  • @xMrPopeyex How'd you lose your first set? Damping off? How bbig are your seedlings now? Just don't over water(let dry out before watering), keep lights on 18 hours a day. Use a weak fertilizer sparingly once first few sets of leaves form. Most of all have patience. And less is more with chile gardening. Plants do better when not overly cared for.

  • great peppers there, how you apply fertilizer on them and what analysis your using?

  • @AxeKickOnYourFace Once outside I just apply 1/2 strength miricle 15-30-15 bloom booster fertilizer every two weeks in a watering can. On opposite weeks I use 1tbs of epsom salt dissolved in a gallon of water.

  • hey whats the best way to sprout bhuts? i tried soaking 3 in water and none seem to have sprouted, they have been sitting by the window for about 1 and a half weeks. think i just got bad seeds? Thanks

  • @elvemage00 The best way is soak overnight in water and then plant them in soil or peat pellets. Then keep a dome over them and have some sort of a way to get the soil to around 80F. The soil should never be allowed to dry out until they sprout but should not be soaked. Then you will need to wait up to 3 weeks or so until they sprout.

  • you must being doing right or i am doing something wrong. but i read in alot of sites to not plant chillis in peat pots(for reasons unknown) but i see that yours are doing great in the peat pots and i just started trying to grow my own peppers so any info would be great and by the way NICE PLANTS they look tasty

  • @killswitch6988 The key is to keep the soil at 80F and keep it moist but not soaked and never let it dry out until they sprout. Then it`s just patience........ :)

  • hey i have 12 bhut jolokia seeds one sprouted on day five and its day 7 and the others have not is that bad

  • @blindbykorn1994 I wouldn't worry. I just planted mine too and 2 sprouted out of 15 in 5 days. Be patient. The best advice for growing chiles is be patient..

  • hey should i keep the lid on my jiffy green house since one has sprouted and iv got them under a 27 watt cfl light

  • @blindbykorn1994 Keep lid on but remove sprouted seedling and place it under the lights in another spot. You can take the lid off for a bout an hour every day to prevent damping off fungus. Do a search on that. If all 12 sprout you'll need 2 more 26w cfls to grow them once potted up to 4 inch pots.

  • i also germinate my seeds like you. but i germinated about 80 cayenne and 5 bhut jolokia, the cayenne germ'd in about 3 days and the bhut are just sitting in the bottom on the water....how long to they take to sprout?

  • @elvemage00 Mine took about a week to sprout. I hear it can take longer though........

  • can you completely grow them indoors?

like i heard that if bee's dont polinate em they dont grow peppers...is this true? just wondering because its winter and thought it would be nice to grow some peppers!

    plz respond, thank you

  • You can but need powerful lights. You can hand pollenate or shake the plant to pollenate. With the cost of the light and power bill, it might not be worth it.

  • @chillilover1 hey how long do you soak the seeds in water and what nutrients do you use

  • I soak over night in a weak chammomile tea solution before planting. As far as nutrients I use 1/2 strength miricle gro 15-30-15 every 2 weeks and 1tbs of epsom salt per gallon of water on alternating weeks once outside. :)

  • @chillilover1 thank you and it says at one point you get the peat pellets ready what do you do and how many seeds per pellet

  • I just put water in the try and they soak it up and expand. I do this the day before planting so they are not saturated with water. I plant 3 seeds per pellet to maximize germanation but if more then 1 sprouts I cut back the weakest ones after a week or 2. If you don't have extra seeds just plant 1 per pellet.

  • @chillilover1 thank you very much and how many watts would you recomend for lighting?

  • I use 26w cfls. You can use regular four foot 2 bulb fixtures with 40w bulbs too if you have a lot of seedlings. if you want to grow indoors all year and not just start seeds thats a whole different story then. You need metal halide or something crazy bright.

  • @chillilover1 thank you mine will go out side when grown

  • @chillilover1 o yes one more thing do you use a heat pad to germinate the seeds or what do you do?

  • Yes I use a heating pad to keep soil at around 80F. Just make sure you keep it away from any flammable items. I use ceramic mugs to keep it off the table.

  • @chillilover1 kool is it one of the plant heaters

  • It's just one you would use on your back or muscles.

  • @chillilover1 thank you very much what pottin soil recomend?

  • Promix bx. You can use promix potting soil too if you don't need the huge 3.8l bales the bx comes in. Also make sure to pull the netting of the pellets before transplanting. Take some pics along the way like I did. i'd love to see a video at the end of the season. :)

  • i will thank you so much

  • @chillilover1 thank you for all your help i just got my bhut jolokia seeds they are soaking right now and waiting to go in peat pellets.

  • Cool! Remember to take pics along the way and be patient for them to germinate. Feel free to ask questions along the way.

  • @chillilover1 yes i took a pic of them soaking next is a peat pellet pic thanks.

  • @hairykid101 a small paint brush like kids would use works great for indoor polination. just kind of tickle the flower and a pepper should form there. just a tip.

  • Hi chillilover1,

See my video, making a ristra

    /watch?v=ksDJ48EU5uQ

  • Hey i have 3 orange habanero pepper plants in my back yard. They're only about 1 and a half feet tall though :( any tips on growing them bigger with more fruit. I live in NY so weather is not always nice.

  • Habaneros are more of a bushy plant than tall. In NY you should get 30 to 50 peppers per plant in a season. If you not send me a PM and I'll give you a few tips.

  • 5 stars for the vid ! awesome music too...

  • Thanks

  • pretty cool, but at the end he should have shown the dead dried up plant after frost did it in....

  • i have some jalepenos growing in a 10` pot it about 15cm high how long will somebody tell me plz I WANT CHILLIES

  • Probably about 3 months for ripe fruit.

  • Awesome. Have 3 varieties growing now, and now expecting the first batch (Hotazel's) to be flowering soon.

I have my plants in small pots (6 inch) where I intend to keep them, due to space issues for 40+ plants. Will this be a problem?

  • If they are a small variety of chilli like an ornamental that might be okay but the bigger the pot the better. I'd say at least 10 inch or around 1.5 gallons. You will get more chillis out of a plant in a bigger pot. The cayenne in the video was in a 10 inch pot and was about 3 feet high or so.

  • Hmm. Might have to get some bigger ones then. Space is the issue.

  • You can wait and see. If they look too small for you when they stop growing, transplant them. Or you could put ones you like more in bigger pots to yield more chilllis.

  • Brilliant. I can't wait until all my plants start to produce fruits. Those look awesome.

I went a bit mad this year and I have over 80 chili plants alone — 20 different varieties. I can't be arsed to list them all here but you can check out my blog by looking at my profile, link is there.

My only struggle this year will be finding room for all the plants. The summers in the UK are crap at best so they can only go out on good days. For the rest of the time they have to live in the house.

  • Thanks, this year I'm growing more varieties too. That sucks about the summers there. We get winters down to minus 30C but our summers can hit days of 35C plus. Quite a swing.

  • what was ur final ot size for out side??

  • 10" but that was a little small. The bigger the pot the better.

  • Great vid, what kind of lights are you using indoors?

  • Thanks, just two 26W daylight compact flourescent bulbs in 2 clamp on sockets with metal hoods on them.

  • thats cocaine!!

  • That might look like cocaine.......if your smoking crack!

  • a tip from chilihead to chilihead:

don't use water. Use chamomile tea and you will get better results...

  • Never heard of that. Whats the science behind it?

  • naga savina

    red jalokia f1 wow

  • Wow it takes them a month to germinate?

  • No. I planted April 30th. First one germinated May 7th.

  • how do you pollinate them? are they self pollinating? can i grow them from the seeds in dried out chilis they sell in the store?

  • They are self pollinating. Insects do the work. If not you can give the plant a shake. I don't think the dried chilli seeds will work since they're dried at such a high temp. Buy some seed packs somewhere.

  • hey maybe you can cross savinas with naGAS TRY IT TELL ME HOW IT WORKS OUIT

  • I wouldn't be able to tell you until August 2009 since crossing only affects the seeds so it would be next years plants that would have crossed fruit.

  • exuse me were did u get the seeds?

  • how do you make those bags at 0:34???

  • I bought them like that. They're called peat pellets and are just hard disks that you add water too and they expand.

  • Awesome video mate!

  • Thanks!

  • I love your video! That was popping! Great music - good editing. Lively and fun to watch and the chili porn is great! Thanks for sharing this. Whereabouts in Canada are you from?

  • Thanks, I live in Niagara, about an hour or so away from Toronto.

  • great soundtrack toooooooooooo :D

    i love this..

  • Ya I figured it rocks and they're from Australia.......bonus

    Take care mate

  • Whoooooo Hooooooooooo

Unreal, how great are they,, HUGE.. and the journey too, amazing..

i love it, from start to Finish, Brilliant

    great job mate

    neil.... :-)

  • Thanks Neil, I wish I had taken more pictures before the final ones. It jumps a bit there but oh well.

  • Great vid and lovely plants/peppers.

I realy like how ya show the whole progression form innocent 'lil babies to deadly pods.

    Most excellent. :)

  • Thanks, won't be long before yours get full grown and you can enjoy the rewards of eating fresh pods.

  • oh really? just put the salt in the water and water it like that? I have never heard about that! I will have to experiment.

  • Ya, just dissolve 1 TBS in warm water then mix with 1 gallon of water and use every week or so. Make sure its not scented though. Its magnesium which is someting plants require. It makes them really green and healthy.

  • your plants look really healthy! I think the stalks on yours are thicker than mine, though you probably water yours more. good video!

  • Thanks! I use epsom salts too, don't know if that helped?
