The Log Cabin Republicans aren't as repugnant as GOProud...but they're close. I just don't get gay Rethuglicans and I will never, every forgive Mr. Mehlman for the damage that he did to the gay community. He's a PIG!
The pro-Mehlman argument seems to be, "If he'd known he was gay back then, he would have do the right thing and not been so mean to the gays."
My argument is, "People don't have to be gay to do the right thing and not be mean to gays." I mean, is it okay to be part of the KKK and then quit their little hate group if you find out that you have Black ancestors? You should be able to figure out the RIGHT THING without being part of that group.
Oh, I believe it was sooo hard for him to come out - especially during those years when he was certainly enjoying personal gain. It seems like a hallmark of conservatives to always consider themselves and their personal profit far before anyone else, especially the "small" people. That's what they consider "personal responsibility." It's nice that Mehlman came to grips with his identity - for him. But then, that's all that matters to a conservative, right?
@kevinbgoode You couldn't have said it better. Now that he's not working for enlisting the homophobic vote, out he comes from a closet that was only for public consumption anyway. Self serving then. Self serving now.
@kevinbgoode "....wasn't yet ready to come to terms with his sexuality" = "hadn't yet amassed enough personal fortune off of the broken lives of others to come out"
Maybe there's nothing to gain by villifying him, but he deserves it.I am completely unimpressed that he wants to all of a sudden do the right thing 6 years later after the damage is done.I don't by anything he says.He knew he was gay and he made his choice to sleep with the enemy.I might respect him more if he were honest, and just came out and said I sold gay people out so I could buy a 3 million dollar condo in New York. What a douche!
I don't think there's anything to be gained by villifying him. Still, we can't just pretend he was always just a big fluffy puppy dog. His actions directly and adversely impacted gay and lesbian people.
@MaryJesusJoseph Nothing gained by villifying him. But it is completely unacceptable to praise him. The idiots defending him and saying it was soooo hard for him to come out are saps. It's hard for a teenager in Oklahoma with evangelical parents to come out. That's true bravery.
Mehlman is not brave. He's a coward in every sense of the word.
@HenhousetheRed I agree. I really, really want to just have people go off on him for the damage he's done, but I just think at this point it wouldn't do a whole lot of good.
@HenhousetheRed You're right. Log Cabin Republicans are a sad and sorry bunch. They're like the kid who gets beat up by the bullies on the playground, and then keeps following them around trying to be friends. It's pathetic.

He like a Jew dressed as a Nazi, lighting the ovens. God help me, if he shows his face in San Francisco. And God help him.

Journey? The man is older than I am, for crying out loud. There's no journey, just lies.

Mehlman is a disgusting windbag. He never stated his regret over anything he did.
The Log Cabin Republicans are silly apologists.
