But if you say you are not Catholics but Protestants...then it still the same....you are not CATHOLICS.
@nilofc "Narcissistic behavior" according to Webster's Online Dictionary: " A pattern of traits and behaviors which signify infatuation and obsession with one's self to the exclusion of all others and the egotistic and ruthless pursuit of one's gratification, dominance and ambition." There are many Catholics in the world. Some are in communion with the Church in Rome. Some are not.
@luvpinas123 You can't have it both ways my friend, besides Dominus Iesus was written by Roman Catholics for Roman Catholics. We neither seek the Church in Rome's approval nor do we seek its validation.

@r8offire We have never claimed to be Roman Catholic and go out of our way to make that very clear to anyone who might think so. I am sorry that you are offended. Problem is most Roman Catholics have been told they are the only Catholic church. Don't just listen to what your priest tells you to believe. Do some independent studies in church history. You might find you've been misled in this area of the faith.
Hello! I don't mean to join your small discussion but could you please clarify how your church is apostolic? Do you claim direct lineage to Peter? To any of the apostles? I ask this because the video description does seem misleading. Peace to you.
@ominoreg Our apostolic succession comes from the Holy See of Utrecht in Holland. If you Google Old Catholic Church Utrecht you may find out about the best-kept secret; the Old Catholic Church; an independent Holy See, a part of the Church in Rome until 1870. Now, there are many different jurisdictions in the U.S., but even JP2 and Cardinal Ratzinger on Aug 6, 2000 described our Sacraments as "valid" See next comment below
On August 6, 2000 Pope John Paul II and Cardinal Ratzinger signed a declaration called Dominus Iesus. The following is an excerpt regarding their official view of the Old Catholic Church:
The Churches which, while not existing in perfect communion with the Catholic Church, remain united to her by means of the closest bonds, that is, by apostolic succession and a valid Eucharist, are true particular Churches. Therefore, the Church of Christ is present and operative also in these Churches,
Thanks for the informaton! It's weird to consider that the Utrecht See broke away form the Vatican because it disareed with concepts of Papal infalliblity; yet, when it's convenient, Urecht uses the Pope's declaration (in this case, JP2) to validate it's relevancy and veracity. Thanks again for the information. Peace to you.
@ominoreg If a father beats his son and the son runs away, it doesn't change the fact that they are related. The Old Catholic Church has many things wrong with it; we're trying to be a part of helping that change. To be honest, we reallly don't concern ourselves with your church. Oh, we pray for unity daily, but we have enough on our own plate to clean up. You might want to consider the same thing rather than worrying about another church's apostolic authority.
Thanks for the reply! First, it’s Mother Church not a mean father. Perhaps you shouldn't identify yourself as a son, separate from the father. If we are Catholic, then we are 1body, 1spirit. Not 2units in a parcel. There would be no question of relationship as we are of the same substance. This is true in the spirit of ecumenism; but sadly there are things that keep our traditions apart. Perhaps someday soon! Amen!
@chrisman737 We grow weary of Christians who believe their church is the only valid church and that their Orders are the only valid orders. Get over yourself and join the rest of Christianity.
@edjansenosb, you may grow weary, but I am merely stating a fact. The independent Catholic movement is not in union with Rome and therefore cannot claim valid ordination.
@chrisman737 "We grow weary of Christians who believe their church is the only valid church and that their Orders are the only valid orders. Get over yourself and join the rest of Christianity." What part of this statement don't you get?
@r8offire We are not Roman Catholic; we are a part of the Independent Catholic movement in the U.S. We reject papal infallibility. Priests can marry in our diocese. We ordain people based upon the Call, not on gender; women are not second class citizens. Divorce and remarriage do not keep you from receiving the Sacraments. (These are just a few of our differences, thanks be to God!)
@r8offire no, it is not. not at all. this is fraud and they should not call themselves catholic. since they are not in union with rome, they are not catholic, no matter what they call themselves.
@humanrightslawyer Jesus said, "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You HYPOCRITE, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye." You can start with Belguim.
@cjallen2 If you're a member of the Boy's Club, please don't lecture us on what's right and wrong. Methinks any church that puts ordained women and pedophiles in the same category needs to focus on their own problems. Someone once said, "Take the plank out of your own eye before you look the speck in someone else's eye."
@cyberslayer002 The pope has no authority over us. We are not Roman Catholic nor have we ever claimed to be. Problem is you guys truly believe you're the only Catholic church and ignorance blinds you to other expressions of the Catholic faith.
@edjansenosb There is only one Catholic faith, and that is the faith of the See of Peter. If you want to change your religion, then fine, but you cannot claim to be Catholic, any more than any of the other thousands of Protestant sects can. There is only one way to celebrate Catholicism, just like there is only one way to celebrate Judaism or Islam.
Nope. There are Shia Islam, Sunni Islam, Druzism, Orthodox Judaism, Hasidic Judaism, Reform Judaism, Jewish culture, Zionism, Conservative Judaism, etc., etc. Just the same, there are Old Catholics, High Church Anglicans, Independent Catholics, and Roman Catholics.
Amen to Edjansenosb. One would think the Church would've learned from Martin Luther and the Protestant Reformation. But, no, it chose to fight back and pretend it has a monopoly on salvation in the Christian sense, which was pretty stupid.

If you still want to condemn her because she views the gospel differently than you do, so be it. Love in Christ, Father Ed Jansen - her husband and partner for life.
Yes and we all know that modernists and dissenters don't care about authority, they don't care about the Pope and the Magisterium. I've heard all the dissenting rhetoric before. It doesn't wash with me nor with the Holy See. It ain't happening so please just drop it, just like Pope John Paul II told you to in 1994. If you were good obedient Catholics you'd accept it but in your pride and thirst for power and control, you won't.
@dialyt55 Your metaphor is most interesting in light of what is going on in your church today. Methinks we should keep this conversation about the call of God and leave sex out of the priesthood. Think?
@edjansenosb God created human sexuality. he created man in His own image: male and female He created them. God also created His Church, which is the Bride of Christ. Christ is the bridegroom. Hence the Catholic priest must be male, as an alter Christus. Having a women just doesn't work. The nuptial theology of the Catholic Church is very important and deserves close study by those who promote the idea of 'women priests'.
@dialyt55 I am familiar with the rationale; you state nothing that thousands of others haven't already stated. There is sufficient historical evidence to show that Jesus himself had women in leadership (Apostles). What the Church in Rome has done for nearly 2,000 years is to deny the evidence in order to perpetuate THEIR particular view of male-dominated leadership. TO BE CONTINUED....
When we study church history we realize that the Church in Rome has often looked at something white and declared it black. Then it has used its power and influence to perpetuate their agenda. Historically it has not hesitated to use persuasive measures that range anywhere from "political" to extortion, even murder. So, please do not preach to me what the Roman Catholic Church declares as "from God." LOOK! There is something very sick going on today and spiritual pride is not the answer.
@dialyt55 Your church does not have the authority to excommunicate anyone other than Roman Catholics. Since we are not Roman, your insight is in error. Peace, Fr. Ed Jansen
God bless Emmaus Centre bringing the gospel of our Lord Yeshua Ha'Mashiach in the Catholic traditions. While you guys bless needy with the mantle of our Blessed Mother Mary on your shoulder, other "catholic" spills their snake outta their mouth to persecute your validity. Our Lord Jesus is King of all and He doesnt need the approval of Vatican to send workers for the harvests. God bless the ACC to strive for unity for ONE OLD CATHOLIC in Jesus Mighty and Holy name!
You mention Dominus Iesus, according to your own interpretation. That aside, let's have a look at why you call yourselves "Catholic".
The word catholic, in fact, means universal. So, in that sense, you are catholic (small "c"). However, the usage of the capital "c" Catholic indicates the Roman Catholic Church. Do what you like, but please, do not scandalize the Holy Roman Church and confuse her faithful, or others who may be less informed. Thank you.
Dominus Iesus was written by Roman Catholics to Roman Catholics. It matters not to us whether a particular part of the body of the Church Catholic recognizes our Sacraments or not. We pray for unity and we live at peace with everyone so long as it is up to us. BTW, the RCC does not hold a monopoly on the word Catholic
I harbor no hatred for your community. I just ask that you relieve some of the confusion in the use of terms.
At any rate, I firmly believe it does not matter where you go; if you are in a church, a community, whatever it is or whatever you want to call it, it simply matters that you are THERE. I think thats something we can all agree on.
Even though we may not agree upon how to "get there", I am grateful for your respectful approach on the subject. Many of the negative comments are so mean, one wonders if Christ dwells within the ones attempting to post their hatred.
yea, this is neither roman catholic, or christian.,... puritans were more christian than this... and they arent christian, as outside the church, there is no salvation.
Apostolic Catholic Church is heresy. They are not in-line with the old Catholic Church. If then, who is their "pope"? The apostle Peter, the first pope, was pope of the Roman Catholic Church, which has the power to "lock and unlock" sins of people.
Therefore, the Church of Christ is present and operative also in these Churches,..
@edjansenosb Greetings...expect the issue of women ordination, does your Church believe in all the dogmas of the Catholic Church, follow the Canon law, etc?
@karpov89 We are not Roman therefore we follow the Canons of our Old Catholic Church; we are free to marry, ordain women, practice birth control without having to confess it and are able to remarry and remain in full communion with the Church without going through a timely and costly process. (just to name a few of our differences).
This all comes down to how you define 'catholic'. Orthodox Christians see themselves as 'catholic' and the Roman Church wouldn't dispute this. They may believe their in 'schism' but wouldn't dispute the validity of their 'catholicism'. Anglicans/Episcopalians as well as Independent & Old Catholics see themselves as 'catholic' .The Roman Church may disagree with this. However, they are incorrect. Any Church in apostolic succession, offering sacraments in the name of Christ is a 'catholic church'
papal infallibility only exists when the pope is speaking infallibly, such as when he is speaking ex cathedra. The catholic church hasnt had a true pope since the late fifties. Once the heretical v2 church was started, the truly faithful fell away. JP2 was one of the worst heretics the church has ever seen. And he was not a pope. A heretic is excommunicated immediatly by his actions, and a non catholic cannot be pope. Same goes for benedict
"From out of the mouth, the heart speaks." You seemed to be filled with judgment, condemnation, even hatred. Such things are the antithesis of Christianity. My fatherly advice to you is to take a long look at your heart. There seems to be no love, no joy in where you are at. You condemn women for being priests, you condemn every pope since V2. What makes you so bitter my friend? We will offer up our prayers for you to find some sort of joy in life before you die. Love in Christ, Father Ed+
really, some would say that the only way to show true love to your brother is to let him know when he has eared so that he may correct himself and not face punishment. if i did not do this i would be showing a great hatred for you. the things i have said are not the antithesis of christianity, it is christianity. there is great love and joy in my life, but it saddens me when so many have fallen from the grace of god. come back to the true faith brother.
this is absolute heresy. a disgrace. do not think for one second that the false V2 church will stand, for the gates of hell shall never prevail against the true church of God.
Good for you..... ignore any comments that distract you from a ministry of love.
I pray God's wisdom will shine through you in all you say and do.
It is no 'Priests' job to save souls, heal or forgive only God's job and through your Priesthood you may be an instrument in any or all of these things
We are Catholic. If you believe the Roman Catholic Church owns the word "Catholic" you might want to study Church history. Blessings, Fr. Ed Jansen, OSB
Reread my remark above yours. The Roman Catholic Church split from the Eastern Church over its SELF-proclaimed primacy. Nothing changes, does it? Same stuff, different day. Love in Christ, Fr. Ed Jansen, OSB
The Church of Sweden does also retain the apostolic succession in the same way as the Anglican Communion. The first lutheran arch bishop was ordanied by the roman catholic bishop of Västerås, Petrus Magni 1524, when the Refomation just had begun in Sweden. It is sad that there are no apostolic succession in the lutheran churches in America.
Its wonderful to see the Holy Spirit Working through women Priests! Whether Roman Catholic, Old Catholic, Orthodox, Anglican/Episcopal; we are all connected together through the apostolic succession, the Eucharist, the one common Baptism we share together and most importantly through the Presence of the Holy Spirit in our daily lives! Clearly the Spirit is moving the church in a new and all-inclusive direction!
YES, they ARE Catholic, but NOT 'Roman Catholic.' They are one of the 'Old Catholic Churches'
The term "Old Catholic' was coined in the 1870s when the diocese of Ultrecht in Holland broke from the Roman Catholic Church over the issue of 'Papal Infallibility' declaring themselves the 'Old Catholic Church.' Since then many other branches have broke from either Rome or from the original Old Catholic Church of Ultrecht over various issues.
Fact of the matter is if she's a roman catholic she's not a priest

You are correct. We are part of the Apostolic Catholic Church, which has apostolic succession through the Old Catholic Church.
edjansenosb 2 years ago
Apostolic Catholic Church is heresy. They are not in-line with the old Catholic Church. If then, who is their "pope"? The apostle Peter, the first pope, was pope of the Roman Catholic Church, which has the power to "lock and unlock" sins of people.

Therefore, the Church of Christ is present and operative also in these Churches,..

@edjansenosb Greetings...expect the issue of women ordination, does your Church believe in all the dogmas of the Catholic Church, follow the Canon law, etc?
karpov89 1 year ago

If you believe that the "false V2 church" exists, whatever happened to your dogma on "Papal Infallibility" or did not your church have a pope then?
edjansenosb 2 years ago
papal infallibility only exists when the pope is speaking infallibly, such as when he is speaking ex cathedra.

If you represent the "true faith" I want no part of it. Love in Christ, Father Ed+

this is absolute heresy. a disgrace. do not think for one second that the false V2 church will stand, for the gates of hell shall never prevail against the true church of God.

Good for you..... ignore any comments that distract you from a ministry of love.
I pray God's wisdom will shine through you in all you say and do.
It is no 'Priests' job to save souls, heal or forgive only God's job and through your Priesthood you may be an instrument in any or all of these things
Every Blessing.

We are Catholic. If you believe the Roman Catholic Church owns the word "Catholic" you might want to study Church history. Blessings, Fr. Ed Jansen, OSB

This has nothing to do with the Catholic Church. This is an act of outright schism.
Check the decrees of Vatican I.
Disobedient lots.

Episcokid33 2 years ago
Nice to see! However this is not the Roman catholic church!?

They can't certainly be Catholic
what are they ??
MaruskaM 2 years ago
YES, they ARE Catholic, but NOT 'Roman Catholic.' They are one of the 'Old Catholic Churches'
The term "Old Catholic' was coined in the 1870s when the diocese of Ultrecht in Holland broke from the Roman Catholic Church over the issue of 'Papal Infallibility' declaring themselves the 'Old Catholic Church.' Since then many other branches have broke from either Rome or from the original Old Catholic Church of Ultrecht over various issues.
