Never knew there was a video for this! Amazing thanks for posting! I always thought listening to this years ago that it was some of Reed's best guitar playing and his energy really brings out the best in the other musicians, especially Quinn!
To mefugoenmicarro: I suppose you're the real hero here, giving anonymous commentary to a Youtube-video, as opposed to those "losers" in the clip enjoying a legendary concert?
Bob never got the credit he deserved for bringing back Lou Reed, guitarist. The "Live In Italy" CD has always been my favorite Lou recording, period...mainly due to the "Some Kinda Love / Sister Ray" performance. Never knew there was a video clip until now...thanks for posting.
Such a shame that Lou couldn't handle Quine stealing the spotlight. How much better would New York have been if he was on it? It's already the best post=VU album of Lou's career, but Quine would have sent it to a whole 'nother level.
Whoops, fingers got ahead of the old brain -- I was referring to the question about a comp of Quine's best soloing moments. And yeah, I'm 99% sure this is the companion "Live In Italy" video -- these performances were filmed.
Is this the same concert (or 1 of 2 concerts) recorded for Lou's "Live in Italy" album? Anyone know? Sure sounds the same ... I'm with the guy who wants to liquify & shoot this up. Awesomeness.
Man, if Joe Piscopo happens to be friends with a dissolute actuary, they've got their Halloween costumes set for LIFE.
P.S. Quine is the best. I wish someone would put together a best-of that spanned all his work—a few cuts from The Blue Mask, "Girlfriend", that They Might Be Giants song where he rips it up, the Stiff Records version of "Blank Generation", etc. Unlike most comps, that one would actually have a reason for being.
I recall Michael Carlucci (Subterranean Records, NY) expressing an interest in that idea on the Robert Quine tribute site, once his estate was settled...but I don't know what's come of it.
Robert Quine was the most embittered musician in rock and roll history. Hopefully some day the historians will redicover his greatness and release all of his albums that have been buried all these years.
Bob Quine was a guitar genius. If you check this out he plays like a jazz musician...listening...he always did. He knew when to play licks, when to play noise, when to imporovise. Losing him was a big loss to music.
Robert Quine is a hero to all of us law school-educated guitarists. I was happier when you were alive, sharing your low-key mastery with all of us. You proved that even bald tax attorneys can rock, if they try hard enough and have a vision.
Reed,Quine, Saunders and maher on drums in my view were the best live line up he had.He still plays live with Saunders,I saw them last year in Manchester, brilliant show.I wish I would have seen him with Cale though.
Fernando Saunders on Bass , this was a Great show

This is Sister Ray, he starts singing the lyrics at 1:36. You may be confused because it's not 17 minutes long, but it's just as good.
