  • Pretty cool but obviously only for fun purposes.

  • you sir, are an idiot. Sorry

  • @ToriRocksAmos and you sir, are an admired person!!

  • ahah, very nice and fun . Looks like the star wars stuff. not sure my sensei will agree if I come to Kendo with such a weapon!!

  • great job from France

  • Very nice...

  • and u know wat u can hurt some1 unless u hit them with the copper and brass parts cuz without thhe yellow string there and the bamboo did hit hard enuf on some1 it wuld just fall apart or break on them haha not very much injury with a broken weapon..

  • dude they do have full contact sparring with a bo u just have to be willing to take the hits and they even have foam bos and stuff to make it safer but overall yeh they do have sparring....

  • @Fre3ZeZ0nE I'm familiar with chanbara equipment and am not a big fan of thick, bendable foam. I'd rather work with light bamboo that flexes a little and demands people to use control.

  • You will hurt someone. The tsuru, yellow string you cut have a purpose : apply enough strengh to the sakigawa to hold the bamboo splinter together :/

  • @dtchaze This is a proto-type. Obviously, I'm not going to practice with a partner using this until I engineer safety into its construction.

  • eyh... :(

You know, if you have legitimate training in kendo and if you even have a kendo sword, you should be grateful. Just saying.

Plus i think a reason why people get angry seeing this, is because they believe that these instruments are either hand crafted and very valuable in that sense, or because the invention of these instruments was for a particular purpose. How ever, it STILL is only two less swords. And from what we can tell (from the video) he could have even made them himself.

  • It's Incredible!

  • @kabritosfizzle Maybe...

  • Awesome man, youve taken the thought form from my mind. I have always wanted to full contact spar with a bo. But its never been possible because of its design. I would really like to see it tested in sparring though as where I live shinai are expensive and should not be wasted. If this project didnt hold up to the test. Is there a way to only cut the back part of the shinai, tape it and bore the hole needed to fit the pipe? Perhaps 1/4 pvc to metal connector would work, then use the leather left

  • @nagualshadow I'm actually looking for a reliable source of bamboo. I want to make full length "shinai-style" bo for kumi.

  • how is the hadeling it looks wear'd . also why size shini did you use

  • @001cac It feels very light. I'm used to practicing with a heavy bo. I used size 39, but I wanted to use size 47. The store I buy from didn't have any at the time.

  • how do you keep the kensaki from slipping off? since you have removed the tsuka and cut the cord there's nothing holding it in place anymore. Just the nakayui alone isn't enough when going to use it to train with. (But i assume you aren't really using it to do any sparring are you? It's probably just for the cool factor.)

  • @MTassarion Actually, I have sparred with it. So, far friction alone has kept the kensaki in place. I imagine over time they'll loosen. I occasionally revisit projects and work on ways of improving it. One thing I'm trying to figure out is how to anchor the cut ends of the nakayui more effectively. I don't want to use any adhesives. I like tying knots.

  • women, dont leave your husbands home alone, see what happens.

they start inventing when the beer runs out :P

  • These are size 39. But, I can get size 42. I need longer ones since there's only one place I can cut which significantly shortens the reach.

  • I believe I'm using a 5/8-inch pneumatic coupler. They're very pricey. I bought two sets so that I could make another one for a training partner. The couplers cost more than the shinai.

  • There's a slight wobble, but that's to be expected for a coupler without threads that can hold torque. As for the red cables, I left them on because I just wanted to. Surprisingly, this set up works very well under combat. The only thing I'd do differently is make them from shinai two sizes larger for better reach.

  • right.... doing this you change the balance, the weight and the long of the shinai (just to start). you took a good equipment and convert it in a fancy stupid thing that it doesnt serve to its purpose anymore, but off course you dont practice kendo, you practice kobudo, that means you dont know anything about kendo, such a moron.

  • I took two shinai and created something that wasn't shinai anymore. The purpose wasn't to continue to use them in the kendo manner. It's either used as one bo or two separate nitan-bo. The primary weapon that kobudo was created against was the sword. Therefore my knowledge of swordplay is more than you believe. So, before you jump to any other future conclusions, do some research and ask questions.

  • @erniesbudolab

    I do enjoy this video.

I find the comments of luisleon256yahoo to be highly offensive and a poor reflection on his teachers.

I cant believe that he is in Kendo or Kumdo at all, because the proof of that pudding is in the tasting,...that means there should have been some sign in his words that he is under an authority that instructs him to always show respect....

Respect , not just to people equal or better that himself, but to all...

  • @luisleon256yahoo you are not practicing Kendo with this disrespectful mouth of yours, kid. This guy tried something new and you are berating him, saying he ruined two shinai? OH FUCKIN NO! Not two less shinai in the world! What WILL we do?! Oh yeah..we can go buy more, its a VERY common training weapon. By the by, its called freestyle form training. Your master is reflected very poorly by instructing an arrogant kid like you. If youre not a kid, you have the same respect and mind of one.

  • @luisleon256yahoo dude its called a "PROJECT" for a reason ... you see the title? can you read? first of all do you know what the word "PROJECT" means if you dont know then LOOK IT UP! ... HES DOING A PROJECT YOU IDIOT SO DONT GO CALLING HIM A MORON! I DO PROJECTS TOO ... WITHOUT PROJECTS THEIR WOULD NOT BE ANY THING NEW CAUSE PROJECTS LEAD INTO NEW INVENTIONS YOU FUCKING MORON!!!

  • Badass man. Your a beast.

  • very nice idea and well finished piece youre awesome man

just subscribed to you the chaku vides helped alot

thanks i take a bow for you ^^

    cheers Cheerok

  • EHEHEHE!!!bravo davvero!!!

  • Ernie, this is freakin' cool.

  • I know...now everyone can make one!

  • You have done better than me with HD.

The only way i can get a full picture is by uploading without editing and keeping it within 100MB.

    Anyway,great video

    Great idea 8)*****.

  • I didn't even get this one right. I reloaded this vid again with the proper codec (in private section). I'm going to leave this one as-is since it's got comments on it already. The key to filling up the full HD screen is setting the "render" output to 1280x720. Just because you edit in 1280X720 doesn't mean it will output to that. I had to really read the settings and experiment before I found the right one.

  • Hey Clive! Long time no see! What's up?

  • Oh...I've been blasting my ears away with Echo, The Smiths, and Prodigy on my iPod everyday at work. hahahaha...

  • very nice!

  • Thanks! I still need to find my way to your shop. I'd love to see you in action making shuriken. I'd love to try my hand at making sai one day. There's a community forge not too far from where I live. I hope to take a class there before I'm too old to swing a hammer.

  • nice

  • yeeeeeees finally

  • nice to see you again ernie.

this time in instant wideness haha!

  • dude if it is raining you should have found some random bad guy to beat up....epic fight scenes are in the rain :P

  • Sid...camera isn't waterproof :(

  • ah then you should make a water proof box for the camera that would be a cool project video too?

  • haha ernie I can hear you doing launry in the back haha nice!

  • A fun project. :)

  • Nice Ern. I like your sweat shirt.

    -Kevin
