Great video, but you can't land like that you are gonna flip the airplane over and shear of the landing gear, the gear isn't strong enough to handle that. you are suppose to straighten, the aircraft just before touch down. Great vid tho!!
flaps a little early. this plane slows on a dime in real life. i usually do final with 10 degrees and when i get right before or over the runway i kick it up to full. Great Video!
you should have landed runway heading, you didnt make the crosswind correction with the rudder.. I mean, when you almost reach the ground you should give rudder to your right, and angle your left wing down so the wind can't get under the wing.
By the way, the trick to flying crosswind is to fly slightly upwind of the centerline so that when you correct for the centerline drift on flare, the wind's nudging you right back onto the centerline with minimal use of the rudder. Glad my instructor taught me that since his 30+ years in fighters in the Marines gave him experience that HIS instructor never pointed out.
Wow... Watched your airspeed indicator, and it was well below the normal approach speed of 65 KTS on the base leg. Great approach, but you don't wanna fly THAT slow running the risk of stalling that soon even with the flaps deployed. Windy days make for some rather hairy moments. And the 172 is rated for up to 24 KTS xwind component, otherwise I wouldn't have logged 2 landings with a steady 22 KTS with gusts to 35 KTS several years ago.
obviously only a sim pilot.. first, thats vasi, not papi.. then the obvious one.. that you didn't apply your slip to line up with the runway. a 172 won't do much more than 15kts direct (there's just not enough rudder).
Hehe, if you landed like that for real the tires would come off the rims!
You can make the app with crab but land it with the longitudinal axle of the plane alligned with the extended centerline with the crosswind wing down and opposite ruder.
Oh and heavy aircraft with long wingspans simply can not perform much slip without losing wing tip clearance, and therefore must be designed with either castering main wheels or they are simply so overbuilt that they can tolerate the side loads.
thank you guys very much for the info, i dont even have my private so any info helps! I really appreciate it and i must say, I've been a huge fan of your videos BrettVisionSLR so any advice from you is definitely appreciated! :]

i actualy landed cessna 172 with 25kts 27 gusting..... it was horrible...

I didn't know cessna had GWPS haha

Better with no flaps

you should have done a "side slip" and approached at a little bit higher altitude to compensate for the loss of altitude during slipping.
The nose wheel should be aligned along the runway, starting short final.

You landed wrong.

how do you look around inside the cockpit in fs9?
markvinas31 2 years ago
i used the top hat switch on my joystick but there is a program for FS9 called Active Camera that lets you hold spacebar and move the mouse! :]
theendcredits 2 years ago
ahhhh just like for fsx where you can press the spacebar to look around the virtual cockpit. thanks sir. ^_^
markvinas31 2 years ago
@markvinas31 if you're using you keyboard try pressing and holding Space +use the mouse to look around try it it might help :) if you're playing FSX

Yep. . .google the wing-low method, or side-slip for more info. There is also a demonstration of this in my videos.

i tried to do a slip with a 747
didnt work out to well
hahha
PilotJamesD 3 years ago
PilotJamesD, 747's have the advantage of being about to turn their main gear to face the runway direction, meaning they don't have to slip :P
mono1geek 2 years ago
thats cool. didnt know that
PilotJamesD 2 years ago
If the crosswind was that strong you shouldn't use any flaps at all.
